Inspired by all the book threads...What's your all-time fav book?

Hard to pick a fave! I love to read...
As a child- A Little Princess (you have it right, specialk!)
Classics-anything by Jane Austen but especially Pride and Prejudice-I can also watch Colin Firth play Mr. Darcy at least once every month if I have time
I enjoyed "The Eight" by Katherine Neville lately and am now on a bend of southern women's lit like books by Dorothea Benton Frank and Anne Rivers Siddons. I should try some Fannie Flag, I bet!

I'm a big reader; I have so many favorites it's impossible to choose just one.

A few include anything by JD Salinger, especially those involving the Glass family. Anything by F. Scott Fitzgerald, especially This Side of Paradise and The Beautiful and Damned. I also haven't read a short story by Fitzgerald I didn't like. I'm also a big fan of Steve Martin (yes, the actor), especially Shopgirl and The Pleasure of my Company.

Since a lot that I consider really good, important books have already been named.

For women specifically, "The Pull Of The Moon".. Unfortunately it's up to the lake though (I've been reading it for like the 10th time) and I can't remember who the author is..

Oh wait - I "think" it's Elizabeth Berg.. She wrote another great book as well - "Talk Before Sleep" - but "The Pull Of The Moon" is my absolute favorite..

She has a true understanding about women and the cycles they go through in their lives - unlike any other I have ever read.. It's almost uncanny because as I read "The Pull Of The Moon" I keep thinking - "Hey - that's EXACTLY how I feel! How did she know that?"

A GREAT read - available in paperback - and not a terribly long book..

I love this thread. I have to agree with so many of you. There ae so many wonderful books. Now .Gone with the Wind is my all time favorite. I've read it too many times to remember. And I loved re-reading East of Eden this past year. Loved Centennial by Michener, too. Maybe that's because I read a lot of it on a bus trip between Clearwater Beach and WDW on one of my vacations.
I can see a pattern here of liking long books that I never want to end.

If I had to pick just one I would say To Kill A Mocking Bird by Harper Lee. Its such a classic.

I can't pick just one favorite, but I think the most powerful book I've ever read is Man's Search for Meaning by Viktor Frankl. I think it should be mandatory reading for everyone.

I really enjoy Elizabeth Berg as well. Open House is great, and so is Never Change

I love books by Michael Connelly, James Patterson and Nicholas Sparks. All different reads, but I so enjoy them.

I am also hooked on the Harry Potter series - my favorite so far, I am not sure. I really enjoyed POA, but I almost think that GOF is my favorite right now. I am rereading OOTP, so that could turn into my favorite when I am finished. DH got me into reading them earlier this year - now I am almost done reading them all twice. Will I read them a third time? Probably - or I may just listen to them on CD!! (Cheater, I know )

Hard to pick just a book or two. It really depends. I actually love books for children. The Neverending Story by Michael Ende is a good one. I also love the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. And the Year in Provence books by Peter Mayle.
