I hate it... I went to bed around 11:00 and tossed and turned until 3:00 until I finally got up. I am in the living room as to not to disturb DF. I have slept maybe MAYBE 45mins....I hate this...

What do you do in order to help sleep at night?

It's probably not the best time to ask ;)

I've been up since 3:30 am...I'm finally feeling like I might be able to go back to sleep, but I know my puppy will be up and STARVING in the next half hour!

I know how you feel. Hope you don't have too heavy a day planned.

I've been up since 1am.

I am the LAST person to advise anyone on sleeping.

I just give up and accept that I'm up.

I would not do what i am but I have had very bad sleeping problems for YEARS...I could go days with getting to sleep so I take ambien, no it does not cause all those weird issues with me like it does other people, I do not sleep cook, eat, see things that are not there ect ect...I take it, I lay in bed and fall asleep...I am not groggy the next day and I wake up ready for the day.It works for some but I would talk to a Dr. first.

This was a major problem for me when I was unemployed...I was trying to follow DH's weird work hours, since I had nothing better to do, but because I was not fully active during the day, I could not sleep at night..I would go days with only 3 hrs sleep.

Somethings I have tried that worked somewhat...

- Hot Bath just before bed
- Reading
- Something REALLY boring on TV..LOL

Otherwise, nothing really helped...The good news is you will probably be tired tonight!

My husband and mom have crazy insomnia. I've heard all the things you're "supposed" to do -- eat this, don't eat that, do this, don't do that, and have tried to coach them over the years whenever I hear of something that's supposed to help. Doesn't seem like a lot of things really do, unfortunately.

But hubby started using the herbal, "Deep Sleep" (we get it at Whole Foods) and it seems to help a little. The last time I went to get him some, there were two people looking for it at the same time!

Good luck -- insomnia really stinks. :sad2:

For me, I had to cut out caffeine. I drink my morning coffee and that is the only caffeine I can have, otherwise I have issues.

The other thing is anxiety. If I have heavy stuff looming, I have to work on it otherwise it REALLY bugs me enough so I can't sleep.

Sadly, I've been up since DH woke me with snoring at 1:30 a.m., so it's not a good night for me. I tried going to the guest room to sleep, but I was already "too awake". Been at the Dis for a few hours now.

I typically try quiet and dark surroundings, aided by a lavender-scented silk eye pillow.

The only thing that helps me is ambien. I take half a tablet of the smallest dosage. No issues with crazy dreams or problems that others have. I also cut out caffeine past noon.

I have had this issue since Jan when I started on a medication that put me into menopause. YUCK, so frustrating. I am a happier kinder person now with the sleep aid.

I have a hard time getting to sleep, plus I wake up at least once (normally twice) to take the dogs to the bathroom at night.

I use a sound machine : Sharper Image Sound Sleep Machine (there is one on ebay right now - no, it is not mine!).

I put the machine on "rain" and sleep so soundly! I wake up at every noise, as I sleep very lightly. With the machine on, it is like a "white noise" and I don't wake up unless I hear the dogs (which have a distinct sound of dog feet on laminate floor).

It really helps me. I am sleeping better than I have in a long time!

Oh - and I have the Eclipse (room darkening) curtains on our bedroom window, to keep the room dark.

Most people won't try this, but try cutting out the caffeine 24/7. I had to quit caffeine completely becuase it set off an irregular heartbeat...then I noticed that I have NO MORE insomnia, ever! Honestly, I'm the only woman my age (pre-menopausal) who has no trouble sleeping.

There's a difference even when I had just one cup in the morning, or limited to decaf later in the day (even decaf coffee has a fair amount of caffeine). I believe that even one cup of coffee messes up your whole system. Now I just drink herbal tea and sleep like a baby. (I also don't get that mid-day slump anymore where I feel like need caffeine to get through the day.)

Most people can't fathom the idea of going caffeine free, but really, it's been worth it! May take a couple of weeks to see results.

I don't drink any caffiene but still suffer from insomnia. I use ambien when I have to.

Try a couple of oatmeal cookies - or a bowl of oatmeal - shortly before heading off to bed.. Old home remedy that has worked for many - including me in the past..:goodvibes
