Inline skating and how to best get from MGM to California Grill then back to POR

Hi all.

I'm new to this whole Disney thing. Never been, but I've booked a long
weekend Oct 12-Oct 16 for my wife and me (5th year anniversary) --
very excited! but a bit overwhelmed by the sheer size of the World.

I want to plan a reservation at California Grill after leaving MGM at
closing (7:30) on a Thursday. How long should I leave to get there? Can you walk to the Epcot Monorail station and then take the Monorail? Or just plan
on taking a bus?

Also is it possible to walk to the Epcot monorail from PO Riverside?
My wife and I are avid walkers (and in-line skaters, is this at all
possible anywhere except on a track or rink?)

First of all, welcome to the DIS.

MGM to California Grill -- best way is to take the bus from MGM to the Contemporary. To go by monorail from Epcot would involve walking or taking the boat from MGM to Epcot and then walk through Epcot to the monorail. Depending on how crowded Epcot is at that time, you're looking at approx. 45 minutes just from the MGM boat launch to the Epcot monorail station. If time is a factor, the bus would be much quicker and easier.

Technically I guess it is possible to walk from Port Orleans to the Epcot monorail station, but I wouldn't recommend it. It's probably a good 2 miles and crossing some busy roads along the way.

If you want a good walk, I'd say allow yourself enough time to walk from MGM through Epcot to the monorail before California Grill.

I don't know how Disney feels about rollerblading so I can't help you on that one. If they do, you could probably rollerblade between MGM and Epcot, but not within the parks themselves, though.

Just wanted to add -- you might want to ask on the Resort Board about rollerblading. I'm pretty sure Disney wouldn't allow it within the parks or DTD, but they might on the resort grounds.

From what I've been told by many, roller blading is not allowed on Disney property.

The quickest is to take the CR bus from MGM. As already posted, allow at least an hour from the time you plan to be at the bus stop to the ADR time. Allow 2 hours if you are really going to leave at park closing - when everyone else is trying to leave.

No. There are no safe walking paths between the POR and EPCOT. If you try to walk (or skate) along the very busy roadways (4 to 6 lanes), Disney Security will pick you up. There are some very nice paths around PO if you are just looking for exercise or a nice walk.

The best walk we have found for true walking is from OKW to DTD....a low traffic and interesting couple of miles. I am not certain but I believe there is a similar, although slightly shorter path from PO to DTD.

You can take a boat from PO to DTD, but not walk. You can walk to DTD only from OKW or SSR.

Thanks for all the info everybody.

I've decided to forego trying to get to California Grill
after a day at MGM. Instead we'll probably try
Flying Fish on the Boardwalk or maybe Hollywood
Brown Derby.

My wife and I love food and love to cook, so I
bought tickets to Party of The Senses on Saturday. Also
bought the dining plan, so it leaves easy room for
a (inexpensive) signature meal.
