Injured foot

We are scheduled for our first park day next Thursday. Someone in our party has an injured foot, and is concerned about wearing the boot with the July heat.
Anyone have experience with this? Or any other options to wearing the boot for protection?

I’ve been in a walking boot since March. Went on cruise in hot humid Caribbean in May. Only advice I can offer is use spray deodorant on leg before putting boot on (and foot). It helps with sweat and stickiness. It is still not fun to wear. Maybe using a knee scooter- or as others said ECV ( I’ve used in store but would be afraid at Disney because people are so inconsiderate of you — next time I am at Disney I know to be more aware of ECV).

I’d also rinse out liner at night or get second one.

The boot will get hot and stinky. Since the person more than likely is not sleeping in the boot if you are staying in a villa take the liner out of the boot and put it in a plastic bag and place it in the freezer over night to kill the germs and get rid of the stink. Highly recommend a scooter. Especially at AK. There are a lot of hills to walk up and it will be hard to navigate in the boot, Remember you can easily walk 8 miles a day at Disney.

Strongly suggest not trying to walk all 5 to 8 miles a day in the boot in the park all day. Could lead to problems with healing.

Ergo strongly suggest having a wheelchair or scooter.

Suggest no more than one mile of walking in short pieces with periods off of your feet in between. Maybe a little more walking if your doctor strongly suggests that.

Don't know how freezing kills athletes foot and other germs as opposed to just suspend their growth until warmth returns. May need bleach or other recommended disinfectant specially recommended for the materials used in the boot.

Having done Disney in a boot I can agree it's going to be hot and sticky. It will smell awful if not properly cared for. The sudden Florida rain was also a complication I didn't plan on. We ended up in a gift store and were given one of the large, now extinct, plastic bags by a wonderful CM to cover my foot so we could make it to a fast pass. That said, bring something to wrap their foot in case of a downpour you can't avoid. A large, thick, plastic bag tied above the boot will have a similar affect on the foot to one of those at home zipper saunas but will also keep out rain long enough to get from point A to point B if necessary. The bottom of the bag does wear out after a while.

After park care for the boot, tear it down and let it air out as much as possible.

For the person, ice packs will likely be a lifesaver. They were for me. Every night and every morning before heading out I was working on keeping swelling down.

We did take frequent breaks and at meals I kept my foot elevated. We also visited a lot of attractions which involve sitting for an extended period of time. We also did not crisscross the parks if at all possible to minimize walking. They may also want to look into getting the disability pass (forgot the official name) for this trip depending on how bad the injury is.

They are really helpful
Don’t think they’d qualify for DAS since they’d tell your party to rent a wheelchair since stamina issue. (From what I’ve read but could be wrong). Many people over there who could have more ideas too

Well we leave next week....had foot surgery in May. Had already booked trip and cancelling was not a option. So I’ll be in a low cut shoe boot. Because of the amount of walking and fear of the ECV’s being rented.i took the plunge with the advice from the disability boards and rented a ECV. Just a bit of advice bring a pillow or you may have discomfort elsewhere!!

You will not regret renting an ecv!!!! A pillow is a great idea! Hope you enjoy your trip.

She has a boot, but someone also lent her a short boot, and also a knee scooter.

How did your trip go? I'm asking because I just had foot surgery Friday and had a trip already booked for August. I'll be about 6 weeks post op with the possibility of still having a cast or a boot. I've already rented the ECV.
