I already have one linked account and I know I can have two more. My question is, can I link my ING account to a bank account that's not in my name? It would be really nice to link two ING accounts to simplify transfers because that's what I want to do. I want to transfer money from my ING account to my dfi's ING account.

Sorry, I don't have an answer for you, but I'm kind of curious about it too and have just been too lazy to call them. If you don't get an answer here, call them. Their phone customer service has been great for me.

Have you signed up for the Electric Orange checking account? WOW! It is absolutely fantastic. I've never seen an interest bearing checking account where you could keep less than $5000 in the account, but this one can start at 0. We're going to use ours as our trip-paying, bill-paying account. :thumbsup2

You must be able to link to an account that does not have your name since our kids have accounts and they are funded through our (my and DH's) checking account.

But I would give them a call just to go over the particulars... :)

Are your kids under 18, Beth?

I delved a little more deeply into it and here's something I saw when I clicked on "My Links" on the menu bar at the top of the account page:

The name on the check must exactly match the name on your ING DIRECT account. Otherwise, we can't confirm that it's your account.

So it looks like you'd have to set up a joint account in order for it to be linked with her name.

I read that too. I think that has to do with the canceled check you send them to create the 2nd and 3rd links. But you don't need one to set up an ING account the first time. :confused3 You just need to confirm two small deposits.

I'll give them a call.

You'll probably need notarized affadavits from the owner of the other account, but I suspect you're going to have to go through a lot of red tape, if you can get there at all in the end. Good luck!

I don't remember why, but DH and I never linked our accounts because it was too much hassle.

I tried to do this with DFi and I don't think we were able to. We ended up just getting a joint account at the bank. Once we marry, I will connect that account to a new ING savings.
