We're renting points from a friend for a Feb/March stay, is there somewhere with information for renters, on what we can and can't do?

I know I could ask our friends for information, but there are probably things that they may not know, and I don't want to bug them with my constant questions.

I'm sure there are also things that I wouldn't even know to ask about, so if there is somewhere with a list of information for renters that I could read through to get myself informed that would be great.

Sort of like an "unofficial guide to renting DVC points" :lmao:

I could be mistaken, but as a DVC renter, you receive the same privileges as any other WDW resort guest. Because you are not a member, there are no special perks or benefits available to you. With the exception of no daily housekeeping (and a much smaller price tag), your stay will be the same as if you'd booked your villa directly through Disney.

Have a great trip!

the biggest issues with renting are:

1) you are dealing with an individual and not with disney directly. (so if disney is running a "free dining" promo, it would be tacky to ask your friend to throw in the DDP for free on the rental... ;) )

2) most renters do not allow cancellations. if you cancel, the owner may not have time to adjust how they use the pts and may risk losing them. so understand that there is less flexibility.

3) as stated above, you are an onsite guest during a DVC stay: you have access to the free bus from the airport (DME), you can add the dining plan for the normal price, you can ship park purchases to your resort, you can enter the parks during extra magic hours and you can park for free at the parks if you have your own car and don't want to wait for a bus.

4) this seems obvious but some people get confused: renting does not make you a DVC member, so no pool hopping or DVC-specific discounts.

When (and how) can we make ADRs and FP+?

Can we customise magic bands?

Can ADRs still be booked at 180+10?

When we buy Park tickets can they be linked to our DVC booking online? Or do we need to do it at check in?

If i want to call to confirm something can i do this or does the owner need to do it for me?

So there's no already composed list of "things i should know"?

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate it :goodvibes

You rented a DVC room, all of the items above are not room specific. You can not call DVC about the reservation or room. If you have a room request the owner can have it added to the reservation.

You make your ADR's, MDE, FP's, and MB order just like any Disney guest. You can link the room reservation and admission media to your MDE account.

The same as you would if you were on a cash reservation through Disney.

Yes.

Yes.

Yes, they can be linked to your booking online.

Depends on what you want to confirm.....if it pertains to your resort reservation (the presence of the reservation, room requests, etc), the owner must call for you. Anything else - tickets, dining reservations, MDE - you do on your own, just as you would on a cash reservation.

So there's no already composed list of "things i should know"?

No, because with the exception of two things, your stay will be no different from any other Disney resort stay you've had:

1. The owner controls the reservation. Any changes or requests must be done by the owner.

2. You don't get full housekeeping every day.

One important thing to know: there are NO free upgrades with DVC. The only time someone gets upgraded is if your booking category is fully booked and they have to take a room out of service unexpectedly.

If you ask about upgrades when you check in, the front desk will interpret that request as "please find me a larger room and take however many points you need to pay for that upgrade from my account". Your friend will discover that lots of additional points have been removed from his/her account.
