Right now I am booked at the Fort Wilderness Cabins, even though I am hoping to change that to a ASMo. Has anyone stayed at these Cabins lately, are they nice? I am really worried because of some things that I have read. I know they are switching to homes, but is there a certain area I can request where I can get a home? Also, it said there are charcoal grills there, do they provide any charcoal?

I have never stayed at the cabins but have two booked for the last week in May of this year. My understanding is that you have to provide your own charcoal. I have also looked at pictures since the refurbishing and think they look pretty adequate. It seemed to be the most comfortable solution for us at the time. It appears to allow for privacy and space at the same time. I especially like the thought of escaping from the hustle and bustle at the end of the day as the people I will be with may not be prepared for all the stimulation round the clock. They live pretty structured, quiet lives now.

There are lots of discussions about 'loops' and otherwise on the camping boards. The people I will be traveling with have some disabilities so we requested something close to a bus stop for that purpose while we did not require the accessible homes.

Facts on Fort Wilderness

Hope this helps.

We absolutely *love* the Fort Wilderness cabins! They are not replacing them with homes...the homes were replaced with the cabins. The homes were straight-sided trailers. The cabins look like little log structures with a similar floorplan to the old homes.

The decor is very much like that at the Wilderness Lodge. There are big comforters on the beds and everything is done in maroons and greens. There are even hidden Mickey's on the bedspreads. You will have a full kitchen w/microwave, stove, fridge and dishwasher (which housekeeping will run each day for you) which makes it very convenient to have breakfast in the room each day or just to keep snacks and drinks available.

Fort Wilderness itself is a fabulous place to "get away from it all". For us there is nothing like getting back to FW from one of the parks and spending time relaxing. There is a petting zoo, nightly campfires and bike & boat rentals. You feel a million miles away from all of the rushing around of the parks which is very relaxing, IMO.

Transportation is a bit complicated. If you have a car you might want to use that to get around. When we are on vacation we're not in a rush so we don't mind using the WDW transportation. You will need to transfer once to get to each of the parks but it's not as bad as some make it seem.

Hope this helps. If you have any questions ask away!
