Inflammatory Post: What age?

We cruised with DD3 this summer and it was an amazing vacation. We are cruising again just about a week before her 4th birthday.

All the publicity has us really interested in a Merrytime cruise at some point though. What age do you think would be fun in terms of activities like gingerbread houses and the tree lighting? 5? (She's our first so this is all new territory.)

We did a Merrytime cruise and our girls were in pre-k and 1st grade and they both enjoyed the cruise. We did the gingerbread house as well as the tree lighting. Four or five would be a great time to do it!

We did a Merrytime with a 2 & 4.5yo. They both had a ball - but the 4.5yo was able to appreciate the crafts & decor, etc.

FYI you need to get tickets for the to make the Gingerbread houses. It's listed in the Navaigator but not very clearly. I suggest checking with Guest Services when you board.

Very Confused by the thread title....

However we are taking our 5 yo girl and 3 yo boy on a Merrytime cruise next month. The 5 yo is going to be all over the Christmas crafts.

It's because there are so many posts within threads bashing parenting with certain ages. I don't blame the OP for titling it this way.

Seriously? There is TON of parent bashing done on here. And actually, bashing in general. CASE IN POINT. All I did was make an educated guess.

The Merrytime cruises are magical. I took my DS 3 at the time and he loved it. The decor is breathtaking and in early December the weather is beautiful at CC.

It takes no time to find some post talking about not taking kids on a cruise, to WDW, etc etc because they "won't remember it" or won't be able to do all the activities or will need to nap or whatever. Many times people say not to cruise until kids are PT or won't be overwhelmed by the clubs.

Whenever people ask about ages, there are plenty of people who object to any choice parents make whether it is choosing to go early or wait until kids are older. Hence inflammatory. There is no conspiracy here; I've just experienced reading the forums.

I think it all depends on how you and your family plan to do "Disney"

We go twice a year with a combination of WDW and DCL and have been well before we had our daughter. If you are going to go often then you can start bringing them immediately and they will enjoy it. If you are the type of family that will go once in your life to "check the box" for your kids, then I would wait until they get a bit older.

With that said, you stated yourself that you had an amazing vacation when she was 3. To me you would continue to have an amazing time and Christmas would make it more special. Whether she remember it or not, live for the moment.

I think it's cute when people pretend that these trips are for the KIDS. I tell my kids upfront: "This is MY trip. You're lucky I'm taking you."

We have been taking our kids since they were 8 and 9. Our next trip this Christmas they will be 20 and 22. They are lucky we bring them along.

Taking under 5 kids to a theme park is not something I understand but (a) I never had kids so I'd be talking through my hat on it (b) it's none of my business, actually. My friends did it great in Calif. though. Stayed at the Jolly Roger so one could take 3yr old back to the hotel midday and the other parent stayed with 6yr old boy then parent with 3yr old brought said child back after she'd had her swim and nap and stayed 'til she got tired again then switched parents and the other one stayed with 6yr old til the fireworks.

We've done the Merrytime cruise when our oldest DD turned 1 (her bday is in December), 4 and we're going again this year with our kids being 5 & 2. She of course enjoyed looking at everything at 1 but enjoyed gingerbread house decorating last year at 4. I'm fully confident that my 2 year old will be fine with the gingerbread house decorating this year (it's 1 house per stateroom, not per kid, so everyone works together). There really isn't much to decorate - they give you the house walls and roof in sheets and you stick it together with the icing and then the only decorations last year were gum drop candies and these small hard candy balls. There were plenty of toddlers last year who looked to be having fun helping decorate. I don't think there was anything that was too mature for a preschooler, I'd say you'd be fine even going this year.
