What do they do about infants and the safety drill? Do they have little life vests to fit them? Do they call out their name, too?! Just wondering - I will have a 9 month old when we sail in Sept.

the infant vest comes in a little pouch. they do not require that you put it on your baby. in fact, when we did the drill with our then 4-mo. old, i had my vest on and was holding the baby. a cm saw how awkward it was and told me i could take my vest off to hold the baby close. what a relief!

There was a screaming baby in our boat group and the CM just said they could leave before it was over.

I was on a cruise in January with my 2 year old, and we participated in the safety drill. We were given a special life jacket for her. I made her wear it (that was thrilling). Anyway, a couple of women standing beside us said "I can't believe that they make people with babies come out here and stand. This is no fun for the little ones." While smiling, I answered, "I'd rather she come out here now and have an idea what's going on, then be in an emergency and have her absolutley clueless!"

I never understood the complaints about these drills. Now I can't understand why a CM would let a parent leave an emergency drill crying? Do they think it will be less upsetting when the ship is in a crisis?

Anyway, they should provide you with a infant sized life jacket and instructions on how to use it. I'd definitely at least try it on the baby so that you're familiar with it and would be comfortable securing it in an emergency.

Hum... I wonder if The Perfect Gift has screaming babies for rent? Would leave more time to continue eating shrimp at Topsiders...

Very true (is that redundant?). We pay enough for the cruise. The CMs shouldn't let any adult cry..

Remember in the movie Forrest Gump....his friend who owned the shrimp boat and he recited 100 ways to cook shrimp...I always think of that!!!

Count me in as a shrimp lover!!! I don't even mind that I have to peel them!

mmouse37,

Believe it or not, my nickname growing up was Andy Gump, in fact some of my cousins still call me that, that's all they know me by, LOL!!!

Unfortunately, we found out how true this statement is. DD4 wanted no part of the safety drill. However, when we received the Captain's order the following Thursday morning at about 5 a.m. for everyone onboard to evacuate their rooms, and head to their stations DD wasn't "afraid" of the orange life vests. She had seen them before. She had seen people gather like this a few days earlier.

The safety drill may seem trivial, but...it should never be taken for granted. You just never know when you might need it.
Now stepping down off my soapbox.

This is actually going to be an odd situation for us. The kids are not allowed on our little ole 19' boat without their "boat coats" on. :) I can only imagine DS asking why they don't have to wear them all the time on the ship. I'm glad that they will be use to them. One less thing to deal with.
