Can anyone recommend a type of infant sling for our twin boys that will be 8 months old when we travel?

We are looking to buy a lightweight twin Peg Perego Aria for our trip but wonder if we should have slings as well?

Does anyone think we should do one or the other or both?

Thanks for any opinions

I would do both. The slings will be great for dining, waiting in line, going on rides, etc. However, a stroller is a must as well -- especially if it is warmish and the sling heats up. Eventually, you are going to need a break. Also, not even sure how you would go to the bathroom wearing a sling!

Hi,
My twins are now 4.5 years old. We have done a lot with them in terms of travel. We took them to disney for the first time when they were 14 months. Since their birth I never used slings, never felt I needed a sling and in retrospect have no regrets...we have always used strollers (various types of maclarens that are really light weight) and it has always worked great for us. JMHO. Different people have different ways of handling the kiddos, that's just worked for me/us.
hth,

Another vote for both - but I was already a slinging mommy at home. My favorite sling for travel was a Hotsling (hotlsings.com) - they are a pouch type so they fold up to next to nothing in your diaper bag and they are easy on/off for switching between stroller and carrying. For longer wearing I love the Mei Tai style of carriers.

Personally, with babies that young, I would do both.

When I was pregnant with my twins, I received a "twin" baby carrier - it was really cool! I was almost always caring for my girls by myself, and it was a life saver when they were really little.

It worked the same way as a regular baby carrier, except there was a zipper to connect them. So, picture a single baby carrier (except a little narrower), zipped next to another single baby carrier. When you wore it with both babies, the babies would be in front of you . . . like a head in front of each pec muscle. You could also use them single (my husband/mother/friend would wear one and I would wear one), and then you could also wear one baby in front and one on your back - which I only did once because both of my girls REALLY liked to pull my hair.

In any event, I would take carriers or slings with you. The one I described above was just what I used.

I vote for both. We took my son first at 6 weeks and several times after. I always took the stroller (a must) and then a baby bjorn carrier for the times that I didn't want or couldn't have the stroller. Worked great for waiting in lines and on rides and what not. I took both for as long as he fit, since the sling or carrier fits easily under the stroller it wasn't a big deal and you arne't lugging something else.

Also, not even sure how you would go to the bathroom wearing a sling!

i've done it :rotfl: when dd was really small, under six months i'd say. she was asleep in it and no way was i taking her out.

i second the Hotslings brand, i really loved mine.

We took our twins for the first time at 9 months and we purchased two light weight umbrella strollers for the trip. We also bought the stroller connectors that allowed us to either have the strollers together or apart depending upon what our needs were at the time. The kids loved being in the stroller and watching all the sites. Also, it kept them much cooler then being in a sling.

Yes, you need both. There are loads of places that the babies can go that a stroller can't. I reccommend a Baby Bjorn. Our son toured WDW in it at 11mos and 20 mos. Even when he was bigger it was still comfy on us.

Another vote for both. We took DS for the first time at 8 months. (It was our easiest trip, by the way.) There were many times I was grateful for the sling since the queues are long and strollers aren't allowed. I also appreciated having him contained in the sling during Peter Pan's ride.

I'd definitely take both!!! Slinging is a wonderful way to hold your babies. We went with my ds when was 7 mos and again a few months ago when he was 20ish mos. Both times we took a sling. The first I took a stroller for my older dd and wore my ds in a sling the entire time (except a few breaks when he sat in the stroller). This last time my ds still spent a ton of time in the sling. It is so much easier when you are waiting in line to put your kiddo in a sling than to hold a squirmy 8 mos old!

At 8 mos I would highly recommend either a mei tai (a babyhawk is a my favorite) or a more structured carrier (either ergo, patapum or beco). They are all awesome carriers and are super duper comfy.

I would do both. I have tried a variety of slings. With my youngest, I am using a pouch sling. I purchased it online at slinglings.com. DH carries her in his own sling also. It is by far the most comfortable sling I've used.

I second the HotSling. I love mine. It is easy to use, comfortable for me and for also DD.

We'll be taking our first trip to Disney in May, so I can't speak to that part of things, but here's MHO:
I could only barely get the hang of slinging my first, never could get the hang of slinging my twins. So, if you are going to sling, get it NOW and practice, practice. You might consider a single sling (you can swap them out of the stroller), or a BabyBjorn (loved mine!). Some friends love the Hip Hammock... But, I would suspect that any of the carriers are going to get a little hot and sticky (think cranky kiddo...).
My twins are now 3, and our double stroller went everywhere with us until only very recently... and will be unearthed to fly away with us!
Good luck!

I say take the sling/baby carriers and the stroller. You will welcome the carrier when you are standing in lines waiting to ride or eat. We took one for DD10 mos and she slept in the sling a lot and it was easy to not have to move her from stroller to ride and wake her. She just stayed in the sling during many rides asleep.

I never really liked the sling, but dd´s first trip was when she was 18 months, so we didn´t need one.

So, I would definetly bring the sling AND the stroller, but do think ahead and buy a stroller that will resolve all your needs until your kids won´t need a stroller anymore.

I would go with a Maclaren doubel, they push like a dream even with older kids.

what time of year are you going? I think the best twin carrier is prob a wrap style...a wrap is prob not the best choice in heated weather though. but will you carry both or will SO handle one? Then I would suggest a pouch.. they are just so darn easy to use and store so super small

I am a sling momma, only ever used a stroller for WDW

an ergo is the best baby carrier made so if you dont mind a little bulk thatis top choice otherwise a pouch. I have a my karma baby pouch ( www.mykarmababy.com ) and love it
