My husband and I are just starting to look at stuff for the baby. I would really like to get one of the carriers, but am having trouble finding one that would work for my husband and I. We went to Babies r us and tried the Snugli as well as the Baby Bjorn, but neither fit him well. He's fairly tall, and probably an XL-XXL shirt kind of guy. All of the carriers (at least the front ones) either didn't lengthen the straps out far enough, or were really high up on him (the baby's head would be at about jaw height for him)

Has anyone else had similar issues? Did you find anything to work? I thought about the slings, but I've had shoulder problems before, and am not really comfortable with the idea of the weight being across my shoulder.

Thanks!

Jen

We used the Jeep baby carrier from Babies R us, and it fitted everyone fine, from 5ft 2in too 6ft, and size 4 to xxl. It was very comfortable and our daughter loved it, I only wish she could still use it, at 9 months she is now to heavy for it.

Baby Bjorn has a version with XL straps.

Here's one...

There are also a number of others, different types, that come in sizes or are adjustable...

Hotslings (these are so cute)

If you are going to use a carrier a lot, you might need one for each of you. Different carriers work for different people and different babies at different ages, and men and women carry weight differently. I would start with one and see how it goes. I had a Baby Bjorn that I used a handful of times for each child.

I love my Baby Hawk Mei Tai www.babyhawk.com. It is a bit "fussy" because you have to tie it, but it is super comfy.

Now I use a Beco carrier. www.ecobabies.com. They have waist extenders. They are sort of along the lines of a Bjorn but 1000% more comfortable.

Similar to a Beco is the Ergo carrier www.ergobabycarrier.com. These are a bit more "mainstream". I don't like them as much as my Beco because they are a bit bulkier and don't come up as high on my DS (who likes to lean back in carriers).

I have to highly recomend the ergo.. it looks good for men and woman to wear, front an dback carries newborn to about age 6 carries! 1 stop carrier and puts the weight in the right places

We have the Infantinio brand. The second one up on the price scale. It's brown and black. I'm a little bit pooh sized and it fits me great. It's better to carry them up a little higher (closer to your chin) because it takes the load off your back, when it's sitting down where baby's head is at your chest level then your back will start aching much quicker.

If you get a sling, be prepared to get two. One for you and one for DH.

I have a HotSling and I love it! If you wear it correctly, it does not hurt your shoulder.

We had a Snugli and after a while, it really hurt your back!

DH is a big guy, broad shoulders and is a xl xxl kinda guy. We looked at Bjorns and all that before DS was born but its really hard we found to judge what they will be like until the baby is actually here. We went with our 6 week old little guy to babies r us and tried them all. We bought the Baby Bjorn baby carrier Active. It has the extra back support and you should be able to kiss the top of babies head acording to the instructions that is where they should be when placed in it. DH uses it waaaay more than I do. When DS was really small I would use it but now ( he's 5months about 18lbs) I just carry him places. But DH loves it and takes him everywhere in it.

Definitly go to http://thebabywearer.com/ there is a ton of info and wonderful Mamas that will answer any questions you have.
I LOVE a pouch for when the baby is newborn.. i had a Peanut shell microfleece(so soft and comfy) http://goo-ga.com/
I also have 2 Babyhawk Mei tei's http://babyhawk.com/ my they are so comfy and i can carry my 13 month (25 pounder) on my front or back, and i have also given my 4 yo "piggy back rides" when her little legs got tired from walking.
Beco's are great and so pretty!! I actually just ordered another one tonight..
http://ecobabies.com/ or you can get them here in stock ready to ship
http://littlepearlbabywear.com/ Good luck and happy shopping..
Make sure you look around and really find something that you will use alot..there are a lot more carriers out there than what is sold in the stores...most are more comfy for you and the baby...Just be careful babywearing can be VERY addictive ;)

I realize each family is different, but I'd fine one that you love and that your husband is okay with and get that, cause odds are you'll be wearing that baby way more than him. My husband wore our daughter in the Bjorn Active maybe twice in her whole life. She's now almost 3yo. Our son he's worn in the sling a few times, maybe 5-8, but that's just cause the kid is so large and heavy so I need a break. And that was only in WDW. At home he never uses the sling, he just carries the carseat or the baby alone. So in our case it was more useful to get a carrier that I loved than one he did.

Baby Bjorn makes an Xl one. I cant say enough about this carrier. Its very comfortable and easy to adjust, if you are going to trade off carring the baby on the spot. Our son used this as a newborn and as late as 22 mos at WDW. Still comfortable and worth every penny.

ITA about checking out thebabywearer.com I think your dh would like the Ergo. You can get a waist extender and a newborn insert for it. The baby can be worn on the front, side and back in this (back and side when older). This is something you can both wear.

I have a ver bad shoulder and neck and have no problems with my slings that I purchased online. The Babies R US slings did bother me.

My favorites are the Maya ring sling Maya. com and my Kangaroo Corner Adjustabl Fleece Pouch. The Kang. Korner is my favorite, but can be warm in the warmer months. They have a coton on but I have heard that it is not comfy. The Maya is great to nurse in w/out anyone even being aware of what you are doing.

IMO for me, the Maya rin sling was the easiest to start off with. Oh and I also have mesh ring slings for the water that have a built in SPF.

I used a Bjorn with DS. Absolutely hated it as it hurt my back. With DD I used a Hotsling (several actually, including a solarveil for the pool and beach) which I loved. Very easy to use, comfy for me, and many people didnt realize I was carrying a baby for the first several months.

I did lots of reading on the baby wearer website and on here. Had I known about the ergo I wouldve looked into that too.
