We will be going to HDDR this trip and we will be on the dining plan. So we will have to pay OOP the day of our arrival so we can save a TS credit.

Anyway.....
Is there a nice table service that won't break the bank? We are going in June so we are going to be in "Holiday" season, as in we are on holiday so Disney wants our money. :rotfl:

My kids are older so don't really need character dining anymore. We want someplace where we can just chill our first night. We already have Boma, O'Hana, Chef Mickey's, H and V and Le Cellier.

Thanks

How's your accomodations and transportation?

If you don't have a car, it might make sense to pick a place close to the resort you're staying at (assuming that you're staying on the property) for that first meal.

We've always like the San Angel Inn in EPCOT/Mexico (the food is average-to-good but it's got a great atmosphere and it's cool inside) or Sci-Fi Drive-In or 50's Prime Time in Hollywood Studios (can't get used to not calling it MGM...)

Best of luck

Are you planning on going to one of the parks or just looking for somewhere in DTD or a resort?

Breakfast is a good meal to pay oop. If you are looking to have dinner that first night, it may well make more sense to use credits the first night, and pay oop later in the trip for breakfast. Otherwise, lunch is less expensive than dinner. Even a 'lunch' at 4pm may work in some places.

The Plaza is a good oop place, but it's in MK. If you aren't going in to a park, WCC is a fairly good choice, but it gets busy at dinner. aonther option that is inbetween is the Pepper Market at Coronado Springs. It's technically a QS (So you could use QS credits to get a great value, as I explained above - and pay oop for aless expensive meal) but it also would work a less expensive sit down meal, too. At the Pepper Market, you get parital table service and lots of choices to choose from. For a first day, this is a nice resort to explore, too.

BUT if you have a car, and want to pay less for TS, consider something off Disney Property. Smokey Bones was pretty good (near 192) in Nov 2006.
If you want really inexpensive, consider Sweet Tomatoes on Kirkman Drive. It's a big salad bar/buffet. Not tons of meat, but they have lots of salad choices, pizza, soup, desserts, some fruit, and (I think) ice cream.

Big River Grille, maybe?
If you head over to Coronado Springs, your Counter Service credits can be an excellent value.

This would be our suggestion as well.... very cheap and you will walk out very full! :goodvibes

I think this is on the list of "holiday" priced meals, but it might work. We are getting hoppers with pluses. So I thought we might go to Disney Quest for a while then hop to a park to eat or take in the sights. We get in at 10AM, so I don't figure we will be checked in until noon. We are at OKW taking Disney transportation. So we won't have a car. DH and I sometimes rent a car for one day for groceries close to the first day. Maybe we will just see what we can get a one day rental for and go out to eat in town. We then can go buy our groceries we need for snacks and breakfast foods. When it is just DH and I we just by cereal at the resort but with all the kids along this time, it might be worth it to go to WalMart.

But this Plaza restaurant sounds good to. Is that in MK?

If you decide to do Trails End you will need to take Disney transportation to MK, then the boat to the Fort.

If you are going to Disney Quest maybe you should eat in Downtown. We went to Rainforest for lunch and the bill was cheap. I know most say it is expensive but it really wasn't too bad.

If your plan is to go to Disneyquest on arrival, Consider either Earl of Sandwich or Wolfgang Puck Express.

Yes the Plaza is in MK, I was going to suggest that as well. One other possibility, How about Beaches and Cream?

oh Beaches and Cream is a good one... Good food and on the cheaper side. :thumbsup2

Beaches and Cream ! I forgot about that place. We ate there when we stayed at the Beach Club. Hamburgers were so so , but the ice cream was to die for.

If I recall, you can't get ADR's correct? I seem to remember waiting a long time...

The Plaza seems to have very reasonable prices. Although we have never eaten there, we will try it if we are doing OOP.

We are leaving tomorrow on this surprise trip we booked a week ago and decided we wouldnt want to spend too much money on food but still do a TS every day. By looking at the menus on Allears we found some items at many restaurant that are between $10-12 per person for lunch. We are always doing late lunches at EPCOT restaurants. Some EPCOT restaurants serves lunch until 4pm.

Lunch at LTT is one of our top picks for OOP when we used to do the DDP. Now that everything will be OOP it is still on the list!
