I am currently student teaching and I will be done in 3 weeks, I was wondering if anyone could think of some cheap gift ideas for the kiddos in the class. I was going to get them paperback books, but I don't think I could swing $4 x 14 kids.

Also, I is a $25 gift card to staples a good gift to get my cooperating teacher? The budget didn't pass so I know the teachers are shelling out money like crazy for supplies. Or should I get her something FOR her.

How about Christmas pencils or erasers for the kids? They come in large packs at the Dollar stores (gotta love those Dollar Stores).

And yes, I think that the Staples gift card is a great idea for the cooperating teacher - I'm sure it'll be much appreciated!

Hi! 1st grade teacher here :teacher:

Yes, the teacher would love a $25.00 gift card. You are very generous!

For the kids...how about a Xmas pencil for each??

By the way, you are lucky that there are only 14 kids in the class. At my school, the smallest class size is 22 students. I have 25 in mine.

The gift card sounds great.

One thing I am doing this year for the students in the Resource Room where I work and for my children's classrooms is to make a "Snowman Soup" treat bag.

I bought treat bags at Walmart with Snowmen on them. Then inside I put a packet of hot chocolate and a candy cane along wtih a little poem about the snowman soup. Some years I add a few hershey's kisses, but this year I put in a Christmas pencil instead. If you would like the poem that goes with the snowman soup, let me know. It's what ties the hot chocolate and candy cane together.

One thing that I do throughout the year is order books from Scholastic (the $1 and $2 ones). These are books that I will give to students either for their birthdays and/or end of the year. This way it isn't as expensive.

I agree that the $25 gift card is great and I'm sure the teacher will appreciate it.

Try checking a discount store like Ollie's or Mardens for the books, I just picked some up for my 8yo dd for .99..and decent titles like The Boxcar Children, Bobbsey Twins, Nancy Drew. They also usually have kids books for all ages. Not sure $14 is in your price range, but a lot better than $4 a piece :)

Books a Million had a ton of 1.00 books this week-end.

Gift card will be great.

One year one of my kids' teachers gave the class those "magic" gloves, the one size fits all ones, from the Dollar Tree for Christmas. We lived in a low income area and there were alot of children going to school without gloves and the kids that did have them are always losing them so they were appreciated.

Brighton has a really cute apple charm with hearts that is priced under $10. My daughter teacher wears a lot of Brighton jewelry so I was thinking about getting it for her.
