We are trying to plan a trip to NYC and visit the Museum of Natural History. We thought it would be fun to stay overnight. Any good values out there???

Inexpensive and New York do not go hand in hand. I would definitly not want to stay in an inexpensive hotel in NYC anyways because you have no idea what you are going to get :). Your best bet may be to get a hotel outside the city and take the train in. It would be abou $100 les expensive per night if you go that route.

You could try Priceline to get a nice hotel for less. Hotels in New York are expensive.

Check out the Marriott Courtyard Midtown East. We stayed there over the summer for $134 a night. The hotel is great. The rooms are huge by New York standards.

We had two queen size beds and a double pull out sofa.

With a code, Marriott sometimes has awesome rates. We stayed with a AAA code that gave us that rate.

If you join or already are a Marriott Rewards member, try code M11. I've gotten great rates with that code as well.

Good luck to you!

I've stayed at the Excelsior, which is right across the street from the Natural History Museum, and at the Milburn, which is a few blocks away right off of Broadway. Both were clean and decent, nothing fancy. I believe the Excelsior has spruced itself up and gotten more expensive since we stayed there.

Sorry, I'm better now.....

Anyway, I would suggest going to www.expedia.com I've always found them to be the cheapest out there for hotels. But check around. Go to www.tripadvisor.com and get reviews, and go around to all the different hotel websites like expedia, hotels.com etc. Good luck, and have a great time. Just stay as far away from Times Square as you can!! :scared1:

Try going to Union Square and eating at Max Brenners. BEST EVER desserts!!!! The regular food looked good too......

The regular food IS good at max brenner's. We are not even tourists and have gone maybe once every few months for food and dessert. They have great brunch items (BF and I love the waffles) and the ice cream sundaes are amazing.

Thanks everyone. I live outside NYC and am aware how expensive NYC can be. I also know that there are reasonable places that you have to know about.

A DISer turned me on to travelzoo.com for my trip last december. I have used them 3 times now. I bet you can find something reasonable through them.
