Trying to be technical, but I think people are confusing what an independent audit is versus an individual that is independent. An independent audit is simply conducted by people that are “outside“ whatever organization is being audited. They would not be on the payroll for that business or organization. So the people that work directly for the board could not audit themselves (well they could but that would be an internal audit).
Also, keep in mind that the document referenced and linked in this thread IS NOT the audit. The author of the report summarized the findings from the audits (and that author was clearly biased as seen by the interesting choices of wording/narrative). The actual reports from the independent auditors are included in the exhibits (but you won’t read them if you just read the report itself). Just something to be aware of. If anyone is interested (especially those that understand audits ) I would love for you to read those reports and weigh in.
