Has anyone had a chance to look at Indepence Air's 3rd quarter report today?

It can be found on their web site www.flyi.com

If so, what is your opinion of it?

Also, if you happen to come across any US web newspaper articles pertaining to the report or anything else about Independence Air , could you possibly pm me the link?

Thanks,

Suzy V.

Hi Suzy,

In my opinion, there wasn't too much new that hasn't already been reported. They are an airline experiencing some cash issues but still seem viable to keep flying into next year.

However, I can tell this trip is very important and very special to you. I don't know anything about how many tickets you purchased, how much they are purchased for or what the dates of your flights may be, but it might behoove you to have a backup plan for your trip.

If only so you sleep better at night, you need to either look into alternative plans or be ready to deal with whatever happens to Independence Air.

Again, in my opinion (which may not be worth that much), it appears that Indpendence Air will be fine and dandy in December of 2004. Would I buy any tickets on them for March of 2005? Probably not. But December 2004, seems safe.

Thanks for taking your time to post your opinion on this. We are flying to Orlando with Independence Air (out of Buffalo) Dec. 18 -31. The backup plan is that if they are not flying on the 18th, we simply keep driving to WDW. But I'm paranoid that we will make the flight on the 18th and all of a sudden they will stop flying between the 18th and the 31st and we will be stuck in MCO (with no vehicle to get home). I called the car rental agency (Thrifty) and they don't have an outlet in Buffalo to drop off my car (or even close by). I was planning on continuing our rental and driving back to Buffalo and simply dropping the car off there.

But I guess I will have to find a rental car agency that will allow me to pick up in MCO and drop off in Buffalo.

Any more suggestions ?

Hi Suzy,

How many tickets did you purchase? Also, if you don't mind my asking, how much did they cost? Perhaps you could get some one way tickets on another airline from MCO - BUF on something like Southwest so that, if you don't use them, you could still have the credit for a later date.

Thanks for the info.

We bought 4 return tickets with I air BUF-MCO return at a total cost of $821 US including taxes and fees . Which may not be the best rate, but flying over Christmas, I thought it was pretty fair.
If we get stuck in BUF we can simply drive to WDW (as originally planned). If we get stuck in MCO I am hoping to rent a car and drive back to BUF (I am researching a cheap car rental MCO-BUF this week). I really don't want to put out $$ on SW tickets that I hopefully won't have to use (and then have to use them later) since I have no plans on flying in the US for a few years after this vacation.

Does this make sense to you?

Thanks,

Suzy V.

Sure does. What day would you want to leave MCO and what day would you get back to Buffalo if you drove?

We would leave MCO Dec. 31 (that is when our air tickets are for) and drive to BUF (our van will be there at an airport hotel there, if our Dec. 18 flight flies as planned) so I guess we would need a rental for 2 days. Unless the weather is nasty then we would need it a little longer.

Regarding nasty weather, I had to scrap ice off my car this morning! Yuck!

Thanks again for all the info.

Well in my professional career in accounting I have seen companies with a LOT worse statements keep operatiing. (For that matter Delta's looks a lot worse!LOL)

I agree with Carol odds are good BUT before they go out of business they may windup cancelling flights or even routes. I'd think they'd wait until after the holidays but my crystal ball is cloudy.

What fare are you paying? Within reason SW may try to work with stranded PAX. Their fully refundable fare is $176. You could book a reservation and get a refund if it's not needed.

I'm not sure driving is a good option. You might get bad weather somewhere in route.
