Chapter 7, that means total liquidation, so the WOULD stop flying. They DO NOT have ticket agrements with other airlines, so other carriers may not honor their tickets.

I just wanted to warn you all. DON'T book them and if you have tickets, be prepared to re-book new travel in a moments notice. Once they go under, you'll be fighting with thousands of other travelers for space on other airlines.

You won't get a refund from the airline, so contact your credit card company (if/when they file) and see if they can help you (their policies may vary).

If they file Chapter 11, then you won't have nearly as much to worry about, as airlines keep flying under Chapter 11. It's only if they file 7 that passengers will be up a creek!

Not unexpected. They have been in deep trouble for awhile now.

I would not be surprised if Independence Air filed Chapter 7. The people in charge tried to grow the airline too quickly and moved away from its business plan. And there are not good route planners with the organization.

:worried: There go air fares out of Dulles....
Talked to a friend Sunday who works for them. Asked how they were doing and she shrugged her shoulders and said they were making some kind of announcement this week but didn't know what about - and didn't seem particularly concerned about it. I almost booked them today too but decided to wait. But I HATE to go back to flying Chataqua (United Express) out of terminal G at Dulles :scared1:

If they're filing chapt 7 then wouldn't it be unethical for them to be allowing sales of airfare they know won't be honored? A chapter 11 filing seems more likely... but then who ever said businesses had to behave ethically?

Bummer! :guilty: I've really enjoyed flying Independence Air out of Dulles. Their fares were always great and it was so convenient for us especially with all our trips to the World!

I hope they make it, but it looks like they won't...... :guilty:

Let's see...what airlines have just stopped operations with no warnings....about 100 incarnations of Pan Am, Southeast Airlines, and just about every other fly-by-night carrier.

Bummer!

We flew them down to Savannah in July and had plans to fly again next July.

We were really happy with them.

And thus part of the problems with the airline industry. Great fares may mean high load factors, but they can also mean low yield. Yield is more important. And with smaller aircraft like the 50-seat CRJs it is difficult to make that yield with cheap fares.

We've been really happy with them too! And we made our flight ressies back in June for our trip to WDW in November. Guess, we'd better kiss that $$ good-bye and make other plans

Great! We have them booked for January. It sucks because we paid with our debit card so I can't even dispute the charge with a credit card company. I may have needed to change my flights anyway, but now i will be out $350! We love flying Independence too.

ETA: They just started a new sale on tickets today too. Maybe they will end up filing Chapter 11.

If you used it as a Visa or Mastercard you can certainly still dispute it with them.

I did, but still thought it was ultimately up to the bank.

The sale fares are out there trying to raise much needed cash for the short term. It's one way that airlines try to bridge "financing" when they are in deep trouble.

I have been wondering for the last couple of weeks when they were going to get into bankruptcy. I figured they would dwindle their cash down to nothing and then go chapter 7. They've been turning in aircraft back to the lessor all the time (hence their shrinking routes).

It's just a matter of time.... if you do book, always book with a REAL credit card and not a debit card.

DH and I don't use credit cards anymore. We didn't have a choice.

Thanks for the heads up. DD was just getting ready to get her tickets from them. They were the cheapest :guilty: . Now she will have to look somewhere else.

I have 3 flights with them in October and November. Rebooked one with Southwest out of Baltimore today. Don't know what to do with the other October flight, gonna wait and see. The November trip will most likely be cancelled if there's no good airfares.
