I just called to begin inquiring about possibly buying DVC and was told that if we buy before Jun 1, we get 2009 and 2010 points (which would be awesome), but we aren't ready to buy yet.

Do they do that often (offer points from the previous year)?

This was the same incentive I was given when I bought back in March. And they said at the time the deal was going away April 1st. :-)

So this incentive has been around for a while. not sure if it's there all the time.

It's not really an incentive, it's just that folks with June Use Years (UY) are still in their 2009 UY, which runs from June 1, 2009 - May 31, 2010.

When June 1st, 2010 rolls around those folks purchasing new with a June UY will no longer be in their 2009 UY which has already rolled over into the 2010 UY (6/1/10-5/31/11) so those 2009 points aren't there anymore. It works the same as when buying into DVC with a March UY before April 1st, an August UY before September 1st, etc.

As long as you buy in and choose a UY month that hasn't passed yet you should always get the previous year's points. This is even true with direct add-ons from Disney after the initial purchase. The only issue might be if you are buying in at an older resort not in active sales (ex. OKW, BCV, BWV, etc) and they simply didn't have any points available at the time for the UY you want.

As an example, our existing AKV contracts have a March UY and we decided this month to do a 100pt add-on at HHI direct through DVC. Since DVC automatically gives you the same UY with any add-ons we would not have gotten 2009 points with the new HHI add-on since March has already past. We wanted the 2009 points so we asked them to do a new master contract for the HHI add-on and give us a June UY. They were fine with that and still had some 2009 June UY points available at HHI . This meant we got 2009 points right away which they allowed us to bank immediately, and on June 1st will get our 2010 point allotment. If you consider the rental market where points go for about $10/each those "extra" 2009 points have a value of roughly $1000. This along with the fact that DVC doesn't charge closing costs for add-ons (and HHI has some of the highest closing costs of any DVC resort) made the price difference between a direct add-on and resale much less significant.

As hellerjw explained this isn't a special incentive although they began promoting it a couple of months ago as if it is. It's really just getting current points so you shouldn't have to worry about it going away.
