Inaugural Wonder (April) Hawaii Cruise - Observations And Juicy Rumors

Thanks for the well done and honest trip review. Hubby and I are booked on the October cruise. I've always cruised with our kids or friends as he has always opted not to go. I finally talked him into the Hawaii cruise but now I'm a little worried. I don't want his first cruise to be his last and cool weather and rocky seas alarm me somewhat. All of my other cruises have been in the Caribbean and I didn't guess it would be that much different.

I'll have to decide quickly as final payment is due soon.

The Hawaii cruise was our first cruise and we were fine. Yes there were some rocky seas and bad weather, but all in all we had an absolute wonderful time and would do it again in a heartbeat.

It wasn't my first but the second best I have taken on DCL. I don't let things I can't control get to me. Rocky seas are part of life after all I did chose to take my vacation on the open ocean. I also can't control the weather so I just go with it.

Thanks for all the reports. I will be on wonder Cruise October. renting a car in Maui and Ohau. Looking forwarded to seeing everyone. Kittie

Although I do not disagree that rocky seas/open oceans and weather are beyond any passenger's control, it nevertheless is an important consideration for many, which is why one of the first questions on the DCL end-of-cruise survey is "was your enjoyment negatively affected by the weather or movement of the ship?" For passengers who typically cruise the Caribbean, the seas and weather are almost always more favorable, which is the simple point I was trying to make - no reason to book an expensive cruise having the knowledge that the conditions are a bit rougher if it is important to one's enjoyment. There are plenty of DCL Caribbean options available.

For us, it was a great adventure, and Hawaii was beautiful and spectacular. Having said that, notwithstanding the seas and the weather, but based upon the other variables I mentioned, it would not have been ranked in the upper half of the 17 previous DCL cruises -- but again, it was still a great time.
