In your opinion what is the most overrated thing in WDW?

one thing i'll defend that i see a lot of people mention here is the characters, especially the face characters. it's a grueling process to get hired as a character at disney, and they always put their heart into portraying the character properly... especially when they're not stuck in a meet & greet! the people playing belle at enchanted tales, for example, are really engaging performers who work hard and give it their all, and i'm sure that's led to countless memories for young children and their parents

anyway, moving on... my choice would have to be peter pan's flight, as a few people have said before. the queue is actually really sweet and immersive, but the ride itself feels underwhelming given how short it is compared to the wait. also, i'm not really a huge fan of peter pan as a story, and i never went on the ride as a child (i was 16 when i rode it for the first time), so i don't really have an emotional attachment to it either. really it's just a cute little ride being stretched way past its limits for some odd reason... if i wanted to do a cute dark ride i'd go with little mermaid

what i like about this thread, though, is that it shows how disney world has something for everyone! except for dole whips apparently

Kilimanjaro Safaris - nothing special I haven't seen before
Pandora - it feels very superficial/plastic; looks good in photos though

I do love some things mentioned - I love the immersive experience of BOG. I think a $60 BBB princess makeover with the entertaining fairy god mothers and photoshoot afterwards is such a great value that we went 3 times during our last week-long trip. I love the Fantasmic! show but it's probably out of nostalgia from seeing the Disneyland one so often as a child.

Disclosure: We've only been to WDW once so far, but these are the things that were so highly hyped that we were disappointed by:

BBB - SO crowded and loud! Difficult to get pictures because people kept standing or walking in front of me.
HDDR - Granted my 5 yr old literally fell out of her chair laughing and we liked it - but I can't ever see us doing it again, one and done for sure.
Chef Mickey's - I know lots of people also don't like it - this was a horrendous meal for us.

Funny thing about HDDR, the first time my wife took me there I was like "meh." But over the years I've returned and for me it gets better every time. No idea why. It is god awful pricey, though.

For me, I'd say the Dumbo ride. It was more of a concern when they only had one and it was always a long wait. Now there are 2, the wait is short so we'll ride it. But seriously not very interesting. Peter Pan is another that I won't wait a long time for, but if the wait is short, we'll do it.

For dole whips, I had my first one on my last trip (a girlfriend and I went for the Princess half, so no kids). By itself, it was OK. Add that shot of rum? Flippin' HEAVEN. So, I'm a big fan of alcoholic dole whip floats.

For me, the monorail is what makes Disney Disney, but if you're just thinking of it as transportation, I can see how folks would dislike it.

My #1 overrated would be Small World. That song makes me want to jump in the water and swim until I can't hear it anymore. My parents loved it, so we were subjected to it every trip. Also, up there with it is Primeval Whirl, which seems to be targeted at Masochists as it is the roughest ride I've ever experienced. It supposed to be a time machine, but lacks any real theming.

Now, for some others --

Tomorrowland Speedway: I've seen better karts at local fun parks. Might be fun for little kids, but I can't see it justifying the wait times.

Na'vi River Journey: This is one of those rides that would be good if it had a 10 or 15 minute wait, but it doesn't justify the wait times.

Peter Pan: I love the Peter Pan ride, but again not worth the wait times.

Disney Dining Plan: Unless you always eat at the most expensive places, it's a bad deal. No, it doesn't give you the freedom to try different places, but forces you to eat only expensive meals to "save" money. Its a neat marketing trick which fattens Disney's wallet.

Disney Dining: I haven't tried any of the super expensive places (Narcoosees, etc...), but while some of the places have good food (LTT, GG, 50s PT, et al.), its nothing you couldn't get at Golden Corral for a fraction of the price. You're paying a premium to eat in Disney, meet characters (Garden Grill, etc...), or in the case of 50s PT for the schtick (depends on CM).

I totally agree with all things Pandora. What else irritates me about Pandora is that Harry Potter was available back when Disney made the decision to go with Pandora. What a lousy decision.

Other than that - Dole Whip.

OUCH!!! I didn't know Disney had a shot at buying the rights to Harry Potter. Skipping that for Avatar has to be the most boneheaded move ever. Not only would have it brought tons of guests into the park for the foreseeable future, but it would have denied Universal its #1 attraction. Imagine Disney with WWoHP and Universal without it. It wouldn't even be a competition.

Frozen Every After. I went on it and, to be honest, couldn't see what the fuss was about.

I guess you have to be a Frozen fan. The ride is a bit rough and not very long, but for me, there's nothing better than when the boat is going backwards and everyone is scream singing Let It Go in unison.

I don't see anything so special about it. It's a pool that gets you wet. But we don't go to Disney to swim, we go to Disney to do theme parks. And yes, we have stayed there, twice, and swam there.

We stayed there once and when we went to the pool I saw a little girl swim right into fresh duck feces. Maybe they are now taking measures to keep the ducks out but that event is burned into my memory.

Totally AGREE! I was miserable at MK. The other parks were a dream by comparison.

JK Rowling wouldn't agree to sell it to Disney. It was possible for them to buy but they would not agree to her conditions. She did not want a Mickey/Harry walking around or Minnie/Hermione and she was very particular to it staying true to her books. I think Disney would have done a great job but they would have had to keep all things "Disney" out of it and they would probably not be willing to do that.

My 10 year old daughter is a Frozen fan, and she hates that ride. She rode it once, and has refused to ride it again. She hates the drops in it, and I have to agree with her.

I don't know if there are other places, but at Poly. When we were there (3 yrs ago?) they didn't serve it that way. So we'd buy it at the place by the pool then walk inside to the bar and order a shot. They'd pour it right into the dole whip for us LOL. I'm not sure if one of the places at Poly serves it that way now, or if you still have to do it separately.
