In spite of Magic Bands, I will still need to carry....

On the first day I will still need my ID, DVC card, and the credit card I used for our PAPs to pick them up at will call.
I am assuming the PAPs will be loaded onto our magic bands so I can leave the actual cards in the room. But for discount purposes I will still need my ID and DVC card every day, right?

I think so. I haven't had the "privilege" of using my magic band yet, but you will need your DVC card if you want that discount and your PAP card or "discount card" if you want the discount associated with that as well, I would assume. When we were sent our annual pass magic bands, they had Gold "discount/parking cards" with them to be used for our discount instead of carrying out actual annual passes. Not sure how that helps besides not risking losing the actual pass, I still have to carry it.

Yes, and if you have a Disney Visa, you'll need to carry that to get discounts as well...and TIW. Pretty much your wallet :goodvibes

If you've already linked your will call numbers on MDE, I believe you can use your MB as soon as you "pick up" your AP. I'm not even sure why they would need to give you an actual AP!

Yup, and that's a big reason I wonder how the MBs are so helpful.

After the first day, you will still need to carry any card that you want to use to get any discount. For example, the DVC member card gets you a 10% discount on merchandise at all the Disney stores at WDW and you will need to show that card to get it. Same for any PAP discounts, you need the PAP card to get them.

I thought I would need the AP for other trips during the year if they give me new magic bands.

Yep. I bring the CC, too, just in case.

Every band you get is connected to your MyDisneyExperience account. MDE has your AP/ticket info on it. Bring the AP for the discounts, unless you get an AP MB and it really does show that you have an AP, but your admission should be accessible with any MB you have on your account.

It allowed our toddler to open the door at OKW, while I lugged the other two kids, asleep in my arms, up the stairs, with the stroller and diaper bag slung on my back..... priceless!!!!

the magic band does not allow you to go to out with nothing but you undies on. it does however allow you to not dig out your wallet every time you want something especially nice at the pool. you can leave your wallet etc. in the safe. you can use it when entering parks, fast pass, extra magic hours and purchases, for discounts you will still need appropriate card but no cash or or debit/ credit card. sounds pretty helpful to me, but I'm easy to please.

Well, even with magic band I would still carry my ID and an extra credit card. If something doesn't work on the MB I would rather carry on with my day and deal with the front desk after hours to fix my account. Plus if you have an AP or want to use DVC or AP discounts you still have to have the cards. All fit easily into my wristlet so not a biggie, but if you were looking for freedom with just a band I don't see how that is going to happen!

yup, we just got new id holders for our lanyards, since we need id plus visa card , TIW , AP, and DVC cards for any discounts.

But it will be nice not to have to deal with cards at the tickets gates.

We linked our will call number with our AP's before going BUT we still had to go to guest services in the park to have them do something to activate them. We went through the entrance line just to be sent to Guest Relations

I understand the desire to travel light, but you still should have your id on you for emergency purposes. What if you get run over by a scooter, how will they know who you are.

Gee, I never thought about getting run over by a scooter at WDW:rotfl2: But unfortunately, with some drivers, I know it could happen.

your info (name, address, etc) is linked to your MB :)

And how is, say, an emergency room going to read that? And it certainly wouldn't have your medical insurance info. ;)

MagicBands are simply a bit more convenient. They're not intended to replace any of the things you would need to carry with you on a regular basis ... it just keeps you for having to reach for those things in many cases while in the parks.

I have a waterproof case (like the kind you can get at the waterparks / Castaway Cay) I wear around my neck that I keep my ID, cards, and a small bit of cash in. Keeps me from needing a wallet, and I still have the things I need for my discounts or emergencies. I still plan to use that the same way on our trip, but I suspect I'll need it a bit less.

I bought an eyn case for my cell phone just for the parks. It allows me to have the phone, a cc, ID, and a bit of cash in one place without carrying a bag. If I could just figure out something for my glasses/sunglasses I would be total set.

So you mean that Disney marketing is being inaccurate? Because they say that all you need is the Magic Band. ;)

(it's nice in theory but of course, not true).

Where did they say that? They allude to it, surely, but I don't think they ever say it.
