In Sept-pack $1 ponchos, umbrella, or windbreaker?

We've been in March, Feb, and Oct, and I don't recall ever using the $1. ponchos I packed. We are going in Sept, and I heard it rains daily. It will be me, DH, DD11, and DD1. DH normally wants to leave the park as soon as he sees a drop, but if it will rain a lot, that definetly won't work. Which would be easier to pack/carry and more convenient....two compact umbrellas, a bunch of cheapie rain ponchos, or a light hooded windbreaker type jacket?

I personally would suggest the ponchos. We got in Sept just about every year and it rains in the afternoons for a short time. I dont remember it ever raining all day..just a storm moving through every so often. I find that a windbreaker--if it gets wet--I have to keep it around my waist when its wet. I dont like to carry umbrellas (I only carry a fanny pack but I guess if you took a backpack it might work). So, I like the ponchos but because the rain is come and go....sometimes its easy to go inside a ride, or a restaurant when it starts to rain and when you come out its stopped. That is how we have usually done it and the rain hasnt spoiled our days at all..I hope I didnt jinx us for this year!

If your dd (1) is going to be in a stroller (one that you are bringing from home) I suggest getting a stroller rain cover so that your stroller will stay dry and so will baby.

I use a poncho that I bring from home, much stronger than the ones you buy in WDW, it is a different color and it is cheaper.

I do bring a umbrella because when I would take my ds out of the stroller, I would hold him and be under the umbrella to keep him dry. This is what works for me.

I was in WDW the end of September last year. It did not rain but it was still very warm and humid.
If you do get rain you might find the windbreaker uncomfortable once the rain stops. I find carrying an umbrella to be too cumbersome.
I always take my $1 ponchos just to be on the safe side. They are easy to just throw in my back pack or even a fanny pack. If I do not use them, I just keep them packed away for the next trip.

Don't carry around umbrella's you will be so miserable... I did this once !!

I think there are good and bad to all listed.

$1 rain ponchos- Pro's-Inexpensive, very light and you can throw them away after the rain. No need to lug around wet ponchos. Con's-They feel like garbage bags on you. They are clingy, hot and uncomfortable.

Regular Plastic Poncho's- Don't feel as bad as the $1 version when you get wet. Doesn't let rain in as much.
Con's- Heavier, can't throw them away and must store them wet, still makes you feel somewhat clingy and hot under them.

Umbrella - Haven't used this yet so I don't know from experience. I would think con's would be combursome to carry, heavier than poncho's. There are tiny ones that you can buy that fit in a purse. They seem as light as some of the heavier weight pohnchos. We are going with this, this year.

Wind Jacket- In September I would think this would be too hot and heavy to carry around after the rain stops. In the colder months, it might be ok since I tend to get cold in the morning and evenings.

I would defineately go with the cheap ponchos, that can be used and tossed for the parks. We do get afternoon showers in Sept. but they don't last to long, so you may want to duck into a ride or attraction for a little while before even donning the ponchos, since they do get awful steamy. I would also throw an umbrella in the suitcase for use out of the parks. Ponchos are OK but they are hot! Nix the windbreaker since it will be way to warm to even think about!

I brought $1 ponchos on my last September trip and I have to say I HATED them. HATED! They are like cheap garbage bags and I don't think they even do their job that well. The only good thing is that they are tiny to pack and disposable.

I prefer a cheap hand-held umbrella, but it is harder to pack. We brought a cheap umbrella on our Feb 2003 trip. Day One we checked the weather-- possible storms, we brought the umbrella, didn't use it. Day two-- same thing. Day three-- forcast beautiful weather all day. Left cheap umbrella at hotel. Saturday night we were stuck in a huge, biblical long thunderstorm at the MK.

Here's a tip though. If you''re caught in the rain and would rather buy an umbrella than ponchos from the gift shop--- the huge, $28 golf umbrellas are displayed by the doors, and all over, but I asked for a small personal umbrella, and from behind the counter they produced a classy little black number with Mickey on it for $9, which qualifies as a bargain at MK.

We must be lucky because we've visited three of the last four Septembers (10 days, 2 weeks, 5 days) and it has never rained.
I love September! It will definitely be too hot for a rainjacket though.

Its Florida I take poncho's every trip because no matter the season we always seem to get atleast 1 or 2 days with rain (or 7 this past June ).

I personally think those ponchos are insufferably hot and cumbersome. An umbrella...a pain to carry around. My family would never go to WDW without our waterproof breathable rain jackets. They are very light, and you don't get hot in them because they breathe. They keep you nice and dry and they tie easily around a waist, or fold for fanny pack storage, when not in use. The hoods stay put and you can actually see out of them (not so with ponchos, in my experience). I personally have a Marmot jacket and I love it. The downside is that these type of jackets are not cheap. But, if you live anywhere that it rains and you like to be outdoors, these are great investments. We are hikers and love outdoor activities, so ours go everywhere with us, including all vacations.
