In Search of My Body vol.9 - I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

Sorry 'bout that walking cast crap, Kat. I did manage to get a TM run/walk (mostly run) in today. And for cyber monday I ordered myself some new running shoes. yay!

Crashing hard! Ate crap all day thanks to my craptastic schedule. Off to bed with the hopes that tomorrow is a new day and a fresh start.

G'night!

So freakin jealous. I am happy if I make it to the car.

Tomorrow I get to battle the TSA with it. Whee.

I so hate it when things snowball out of control. Here's hoping that today is a MUCH better day for you.

Kat - TSA and an air cast. Not sure what to say except good luck

Hi Everyone

Checking in:

Water - I averaged 4-5 large glasses a day which isn't great but it is 4-5 glasses a day more than I was drinking!

Exercise - Failed miserably. Started with the best intentions but tapered off :sad2:

This weeks goals are the same as last week but hopefully with better results!

Plus, Britain has pretty much come to a standstill. Thats right. Snow.
We don't generally get heavy snow fall where I am but its snowed solidly for the past two days, with at least another few days of it! With the windchill its getting down to -20c which is COLD!! :scared1:

Sadly, no snow days for me so far! Its taking 3 times longer to get to and from work than normal but if we don't go to work we dont get paid so theres no choice really!

Hope everyone is having a great day :cool2:

Kat - hope the TSA waved you through!

Paula - Second the better day. How was it?

Liz - woot on the avatar. Good one, too.

Kelly - I read about the paralyzing snow. It would be fun for a day, no more. And that IS cold.

Nancy - hooray for shoes! Where do you get them?

Ran this morning. Ate pretty well. Took my mentee to see Tangled tonight. I want a Pascal for my desk! I hope they figure a way to use the lanterns in WDW. Lots of potential. We had dinner at Noodles and Company - small bowl pad thai. We talked about homelessness, beer in moderation and wanting to discover she's a princess. Next week we'll play Uno.

DGF is under the weather  and I'm going to pamper her.

Work has me completely and utterly out of it emotionally. I'm not even sure how my food is going, I have no idea what I'm eating and find myself hungry more then I should. I'm keeping up hope that tomorrow is better.

Hi everyone,

It is amazing what happens when a real night's sleep happens. I am feeling much better and my eating habits reflected that. Not perfect but not crap either so that is a small victory.

Kat - hope your travel experience went well.

Ronda - hope Sue feels better soon.

Kelly - yikes on the snow and cold. Be safe.

Hi to everyone else!!!

I found out an interesting chat with Jesse tonight during my session. I was talking to him about my recent struggles and how I just felt lost and heentioned that I didn't have my fitness friends around me right now so I was 'feeding' off of the unhealthy habits of the people I am hanging out with. Don't get me wrong, my family is great but they are not the most healthiest of people. So - help!!!! I need my fitness peeps back in my life and you all are part of that.

My goal for this next week or two us simple:
- track the good, the bad and the ugly
- check in here daily to let you all know how I am doing and to see how you all are doing.

Sounds simple right? Here's hoping that this is the first step in the right direction.

Kat, Good Luck at that airport, hope you are out of that cast soon.

Liz, how did the chili turn out? I make turkey chili also, but I use can beans. (shh. don't tell anyone)

Nancy, you got new shoes? I must of missed that, I just got a pair of Nike's :scared1: running is not a cheap sport.

Kelly, sorry for the snow, it is snowing here now too, but just a dusting, and we are in Chi - ca--go (said is my best south side voice) I have to tell you every time I turn on the radio or tv I hear about the big wedding plans.
It must drive you nuts.

Meg, tons of hugs:hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug:
Do you get a Christmas break? Don't forget, VACATION is less than 90 days away!!!

Erika, have a great trip.

Amiee, did you ever post that TR? Hope you are well.

Ronda, you are better than me for useing the treadmil, I just have not ran.
I loved Tangled!!!

Paula, hope you get a good nights rest, I was thinking of you tonight. A long time ago (like last year) I sent an email into TNT for more info, they called me tonight to see if I wanted to go to an open house. I said I have heard good things about them but I did not think I could do the fundraising. They said they can help. So we will see.

No run, ate not the best but not that bad either. I did get my Christmas gift tonight..... Garmin Forerunner 110, in gray and pink. LOVE IT. Can't wait to use it!!

Good night all.

Disney Count Down shows 86 days!!!:scared1::scared1::scared1:
Umm I am not ready.:scared1::scared1:

Paula - fitness peeps are here for you! Sleep is a huge driver for me, too. I don't have on-call duties these days, but when I did the effect would linger for a few days. Just couldn't get the rhythm back. DGF knows if I slept well in the first five minutes of the day. I'm pretty transparent that way.

Track it. Own it. Tell us about it. :grouphug:

Meg -

Kelly - my brother was trying to get to Heathrow tonight from Zurich. It sounds like a wild ride. Bundle up.

Jo - 85... I need to get a ticker for St Louis.

Ronda

Just hating the treadmill. That is all.

I was thinking about this as I was slogging thru my TM run this morning (and hating every minute of it). Sometimes I find that I have trouble pacing on the TM, which almost seems counter-intuitive. Like, I should be able to set the TM to a speed and go, right? Wrong. I set the TM to the speed I *think* I want to go, but often find myself either working against the TM because my body naturally wants to go slightly faster, or struggling to keep up with it. My pacing tends to follow very closely with the music I'm listening to and it's exceedingly difficult to micro-manage the TM speed so that I'm right "on" all the time. What I need is a nice indoor track.:goodvibes

Whoo boy. Snow and cold? You can keep it. I'm not quite ready yet.

Be safe out there Kelly!

Nancy - hooray for shoes! Where do you get them?

The first time I bought this particular shoe, I went to my local New Balance store and got properly fitted. This time, I ordered them from running warehouse. They had them on sale, plus then I used a 15% off discount code. Free shipping (returns as well if needed) to boot! :thumbsup2

Glad you got some much needed rest! And Jesse! wow. Sometimes that guy surprises you, huh? I'm sure he's right though. It's so easy to slide into the habits of the people you are surrounded with. And we all have experienced that floundering feeling after training for a huge event. Time for a new goal. Any thoughts? Princess again perhaps?princess:

off to work for me. Christmas cookie season has begun. Lord help me

Nancy - LOVE the free returns at runningwarehouse. I've used it a couple of times. I'm in a shoe funk right now. Trying some ASICS, but still feeling a pain in the top of my foot. Do I REALLY need a stability shoe? The running store people seem to think so, but the wear is on the outer part of the sole. I want the question settled before I start ramping up mileage for the marathon. This could get expensive. My GP gave me the name of the ortho that keeps him running. Sigh....

I am contemplating getting an AP in March so that I would be covered for the 2012 marathon and princess....

Hi ladies!!!

....I'd just like to say that I am RIDICULOUSLY excited that my semester is over in two weeks.......

Ugh. I LOVE my art teacher. Love her. I've learned LOADS from her this semester and she's introduced me to art forms I didn't know existed. She's also a professional artist, so it's awesome to see that perspective.

BUT.

I swear, this class is going to be the death of me. How it is that I requested no credit for all my other classes, staying in only this one, and STILL can't keep up, is beyond me. It feels beyond ridiculous. We have SO much to do these last two weeks and I think I'm going to lose my mind. Two projects due with full critiques and self written critiques, an artist research paper and a reaction paper to said artist's work. A 6 page worksheet over 3 chapters. And lastly, but of course not least, a cumulative final exam. I'm amazed I have any hair left.

Anyhow. I hope everyone's having an amazing Thanksgiving, and heading into the holiday season well.

I've really not been taking time for myself. At all. With my health failing lately, work, and school, any of my down time is spent falling asleep on the couch while Carlos watches TV. It's ridiculously depressing. I've got to do better to do SOMETHING for myself, even if it means keeping to my goals on drinking good amounts of water, not eating certain things....SOMETHING to help me feel like I am trying to take care of myself. I'm just stuck in such a rut right now. I'll be honest. I'm feeling too sorry for myself to do anything to help myself. I've got to get out of it.

Sorry for venting/ranting....it's just so many people in my life right now don't understand the need I have to get motivated to be a better me. They all just "get by" with their lives and are okay with their lot in life, no matter what that may be...it's so easy to get sucked into that. I don't want to be that person that just settles with something I don't like.

There I go again....I better shut up now or I'll never stop.

Thanks for letting me vent. I hope to be the support to all of you one day that you are to me.

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Nancy - back to Christmas cookies... How do I get a really hard icing? I want to make sugar cookies, ice them and bag them for church. I want the icing to *not* stick to its cookie neighbor. Is corn syrup the key?

The interesting thing is, the PT told me (after a nasty bout of plantar fasciitis)that I needed a stability shoe. When I went to NB to get fitted, the sales guy actually tried to talk me OUT of the stability shoe based on my foot analysis. I told him what the PT had said and he agreed immediately, fitted me with the stability shoe and the cushioning insole and I have been blissfully happy.

Dried egg whites. We use 2 TBSP per pound of confectionary sugar in our royal icing. You should be able to find it in the baking aisle at the grocery store - or anywhere that sells Wilton cake making supplies.

Christmas cookie mania has started at work. We make roughly 15 different kinds of cookies for our trays. Today I made Russian Teacakes, a shortbread-style jam thumbprint, chocolate shortbread cookies & chocolate-mint whoopie pies. Gingerbread people dough is all made and chilling, awaiting my arrival tomorrow. Now, if I can only stop myself from sampling all this stuff :headache:

Cathie- good luck with the remainder of your semester :goodvibes Any luck on a diagnosis yet? :confused3 Sorry if I missed something :flower3:

I use meringue powder sometimes too, works just as well.

No, you didn't miss anything, I've just been too busy with everything to come around :)

No diagnosis, I've got a colonoscopy and endoscopy scheduled for December 29th that will hopefully give some answers. If it doesn't....well, I'm not sure where they'll want to go from there.:confused3

Which shoe?

Both the running shoe guy and the sports med doc say I need a stability shoe and probably orthotics. I may be able to get them custom from the doc and have insurance pick up the tab, since I have the stress fracture diagnosis thing going.

The running shoe guy put me in ASICS Gel-2150. They felt a bit too big for the t-mill run I did before the OBX half, but if I have to put orthotics in them, should I leave them as-is or return for the half size smaller?

My arches are so flat that I would almost leave a whole footprint.

Kat - I'd been using Brooks and got a pair of the 2150. My foot print is a normal/high arch which is supposed to go with a neutral stride. Before I break the bank on deductibles I'm going to try another shoe. I found the Brooks Defyance on running warehouse this afternoon... one left in my size and CHEAP! Plus 15% - thanks WISH!

Check with the doc, but I think custom orthotics usually go into neutral shoes. YMMV. I'd return the shoes now. There might be a time limit. You can hold a store credit and either drop down a half size or switch models.

Paula - how's it going?

Cathie - DGF is upstairs taking an accounting test and looking forward to the semester's end, too. Keep at it!

Today was uneventful. The cable guy came tonight and fixed some wiring problems that prevented us from getting HD. Much better. Another cable guy was here last week to replace the cable modem. Next time they get cookies!

I tracked and drank.
