In Search of My Body vol.9 - I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

Morning ladies. Woke up feeling slightly better and realized... I ran a half marathon yesterday! Sometimes it's crazy to think I can do that.

Nancy- I swear the waiting is worse for parents then it is for kids.

Kat & Jo- How you ladies feeling today?

How was everyone else's weekend?

Have a great start to your week ladies!

Nancy, it's a hill. Straight up.

The stats from the webside for the bridge (the Washington-Baum bridge) are: 1.05 mi long, 82' high, with a 650' climb to the top at a 4% grade. It's basically from mile 9.5 -10.5.

:crazy2: yuck!

Nancy,Umm I ran yesterday, I did not say anything about eating healthy

 ok. But you did run and that helps to offset some of the dietary choices that may be less than perfect. I....ate. :rolleyes1

Meg- I agree! Looking back and thinking "holy cow. I just RAN 13.1 miles. Insane". It's amazing what we can do when we put our minds to it :goodvibes

and on that note, I guess I'm off to the gym. I really wanted to bike this morning, but the rain is moving in.

totally random thought.

I'm disappointed that they are no longer using the "Proud" as the theme song for the Biggest Loser. I adore that song and what it's message is and wish they would bring it back. To me, BL without "Proud" is like the season where Jillian was replaced by....that blonde chick. Just not the same.

rant over. back at it folks...

Hi all,

Sorry I wasn't around all weekend. I really wasn't a pleasant person for most of it. I've been quite the crank-butt lately with this stomach business, and to top it all off, this month is one of the three periods I have a year...so yeah..let's just say I felt pretty sorry for Carlos this weekend.

Congrats to everyone on their races who ran, you all did a fantastic job, and I am constantly in awe of all of you.

I have to admit, sometimes I think I will never get to that point. But I've vowed to myself, that one day, some day, I'll run a race...and my first one will be at Disney. No other will do.

When did this season of Biggest Loser start? Have I missed the premiere? I really haven't paid much attention to the tv as of late...

OH and ya'll inspired me. I made banana bread last night :lovestruc

I hope everyone has a fantastic Monday.

Just a quick check in to share some good news. My tests came back and the results are pretty good. Turns out I do have some pre-cancerous cells but they are the type that do repair themselves. The reason they haven't repaired themselves is because apparently I have an infection. So I will be going on medicine to take care of the infection and then the cells should heal themselves. I'll go back for tests in 6 months and they're pretty sure that I'll be better. So this is much better news then they originally had indicated. It was a big relief.

Okay back to work, just wanted to share my good news.

Meg, I'm so happy to hear that you know what's going on and that it's GOOD news!!!!!!! :yay:

Meg, Kat, Jo - AWESOME job on your races! :cool1:

Meg - That is FANTASTIC news from the doctor! :thumbsup2

Everyone - Hi!

I haven't got much to say today, just one of those days!

Hope everyone is having a great day :cool2:

Meg - great news. And great racing!

Kat - how's the couch? Congratulations on your race. :jealous:

Jo - savor the bling!

Okay, racers, what's next?

Nancy - I like Proud, too. This season hasn't grabbed us. We DVR it, but are a few weeks behind. Some of the challenges have been dumb - sugar cube stacking comes to mind. I know the producers stack the house for drama, but a few don't really seem to want to be there.

DGF will be home soon and we'll head out for a walk. Jeez, it's almost dark now. I met with a running mentor this afternoon. He's not coaching me, but he's a longtime runner and I like to get his perspective on things. Today's topics marathon training plans and running in the cold.

I'm considering upping my base mileage to 20 miles per week. It would be 5/5/10 and a good place to start any half or full marathon plan from. Right now I'm at 15 mpw. I'm also very boring on Friday nights ; )

Cathie - hugs to Carlos :P)

Ronda

Thanks! The couch and I are very close, today.

Sounds like fun, on the mentor thing. Any other advice from him?

I definitely hear you on the boring Friday nights. I am usually in bed by 9PM!

WOO HOO!

Amy is in labor! Already past 8 cm. Jackson will be here soon! LISA...are you listening? Delena is about to be a big sister!

Yes, Cathie, you missed it  the season is about 1/2 over. And I'm with Ronda - this season is just missing something for me...

That's sounds great Ronda. And did you learn anything interesting about running in the cold? I *hate* running in the cold. Makes me very stiff.

Amy is now the proud mama of Jackson Cash. He was born at 9:59 tonight, 10 lbs 5 oz, and 22 inches. Mother and baby are obviously doing well, since she FBed and emailed the news herself about 10 min ago!

Congrats to Amy, her hubby, and big sister Delena! :goodvibes

He's here! Jackson Cash is here! And HUGE! :cool1:

Congratulations!!

Ronda, OMG sugar stacking was pretty stupid.
Let me know what you learn about running in the cold. I could use the advice.

Amy - Jackson is here!!!!! Congrats!

Quiet weekend for me. Had an amazing dinner at one of the area's best restaurants on Saturday night. It was just delicious. Healthy it was not though.

I am a day off in my routine so I am heading to jc and the gym tonight instead of family dinner night. Sigh...

Hope everyone has a great day!

Jackson Cash. :goodvibes I can't stop grinning. So happy for you Amy!:lovestruc

Paula - JC tonight. Please check in after ok?

Kat, Meg & Jo - just wondering if anyone is sore from their race on Sunday? And Jo, I want to know about the socks. Did you wear your new socks for the race? If so, how did your feet feel? I'm due for new running shoes very, very soon.

Morning, team!

Still so excited about baby Jackson! And have you seen his pics on FB?!?! OMG, looks like a 6-month old! He is PERFECT.

Starting double work-out sessions today. WOOT. Morning and evening. What can I say? Drastic times call for drastic measures.

Jo--I have seen you ask more than once about cold weather running. DO NOT let people tell you that you should move inside or to a treadmill for the winter. You can absolutely run outside. And it is far better for you as well--as long as it isn't too bitter or too much wind.

We know a thing or two about brutal winters in Maine. And I run all winter long. My personal threshold is usually 19*. 19 and warmer and I run outside. Colder and I stay in. But that doesn't always hold true. I have had many a sub-zero run. And it is truly no big deal as long as you dress properly. And I NEVER have bulky layers. Get the thin, tech wear and layer up. Same with gloves and hat. I use UnderArmour for head and hands. Very thin, but very warm. Yup, UA is an expensive brand. But that is because it does what it is supposed to...keeps you warm without adding any real bulk.

Remember that your head is most important. So get the right hat. Then I usually wear an UnderArmour turtle neck (not compression gear...I never wear any of that). On top of the turtleneck I wear any form of tech jacket. I have a couple of different weights, depending on the temps. On bottom, just running tights. I never double-layer on my legs. Makes it impossible to run.

But seriously, you DO get used to running outside in the winter. It is not a reason to stop running or change your pattern at all.
