In Search of My Body vol.9 - I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

Nancy, that sounds awesome!!

I indulged in a bit of retail therapy tonight after a rather crummy day. It's started to get cold here and I realized I had a lack of decent sweaters...

Plus, 30% coupons at Kohl's are hard to pass up! I got 3 sweaters, 2 pairs of pants, a long sleeved thermal tee, and a brown corduroy jacket, for $80 total including tax.

Hey ladies, I'm around. I'm still in a bit of pain and having to go to work every day is taking it out of me so I'm usually just on the couch zoning out instead of posting.

Sunday is half marathon day. Kat how are you feeling? You ready for OBX? I picked up my race number today.

Sorry you are still feeling poorly.

No, I'm not ready, but I am going anyhow. My shin is still unhappy off and on, and I am really not trained enough imo, but the course is open for 7 hours thanks to the marathoners so I will finish regardless. :)

Hi All,

Nancy, YAY YAY YAY on Disneyland!! I am verry happy for you.

Kelly, I may have to look up the new WW, I got an email that it is changing Late November here.

Meg, sorry your still feeling bad.

Kat, I hit Kohls on line with my 30% I got stuff for the my girls, matching Christmas dresses, they are going to be to cute!!

My right quad is still bothering me, so I am still sitting out this week. I have my 8k on Sunday, But the weather here has been WONDERFUL in the low 70's
and I can't run. So sad!:sad1:

Kat-you got some great deals! I did just the same thing the other night, realizing that all the shoes I owned were cloth and that the first snow was coming this week. So I went to Target and got some sweaters and a pair of WARM boots. I spent a good amount more than you though, I should have tried Kohl's!

Sorry you're still not feeling well :( It sounds like your body is being put through a lot. Make sure to get the rest you need, and don't rush yourself.

It snowed for the first time this year on Tuesday, and it's snowing again today. I'm already sick of it lol. I'm really looking forward to Christmas this year, as it's my favorite holiday, and now that Carlos and I are living together, it'll be that much more special, but we are a little low on money, so I'm hoping we are able to buy the gifts for people that we want to.

Last night was really rough. Carlos was laughing at me because I was ready for bed at 9 (vs. my normal midnight) but I really was that tired. This fatigue is possibly the worst part of whatever is going on. I had pains last night that I haven't had yet, in my back, so I'm going to call my doctor today, to see if she wants me to come in, or wait for my G.I. appt.

Hope everyone is having a good day today, and staying warm if it's cold where you are like it is here!

I know! I'm really excited. I haven't dared mention anything to Becca. She is going to be so mad. ;)

Nicely done Kat. You are the queen of retail deals! So what's up with the shin? Do you suppose it's a shoe related issue that is just going to require time and patience or do you think you may have actually done *something*?

Meg, you amaze me. Laid out on Thursday and still planning on a half marathon on Sunday. Hope you are feeling significantly better by then!

70's? I think it's safe to say I won't see that again until April. :sad2: Take care of that quad! You need it rested and ready to go for princess training!

Cathie - you can keep your snow, ok? feel better!

Long day at work for me. I'll be back later....lots of things on my mind.

I think it's the queen of cheap. :)

I am not sure, on the shin. It's bothered me off and on since the Chicago RnR. I will likely go to the doc next week and get it checked out. I would go this week, but I will admit freely that I don't want to be told not to run on Sunday.

Worst case scenario is a tibia stress fracture, sigh.

Hi guys!

Sometimes fate knows when to give you a swift kick in the backside. Well, she got me good just a few minutes ago and now I am crying like a baby. I found our pic that was taken at Akershus just after the Princess in March. I have to get back on track - it can't be one or the other as far as diet and exercise. It has to be both. Starting right now, I am back on track and 100% re-committed. I don't care if I finish the Princess with the same time as last year. What I care about it having fun and getting healthier. I'm being sappy and sentimental, but my dentist appointment put me in my place today (along with the pic). The worse I eat, the worse my teeth are as far as cleaning goes. My dentist is very analytical and we came to that conclusion a few years ago because she noticed a dramatic change when I was really eating right.

Long and mushy gushy story short, I am back on the bandwagon. :cool1:

EE, I really needed that tonight. I am struggling hard to stay on. The last two days have been a slow slide downhill, and today has been hanging onto that last cliff before the canyon free fall...

Thanks! :goodvibes

Amiee, I totaly understand, it has to be both. I just can't get the diet right.
Can't wait to finish the princess with you..

Ok, I am a mess, I think it has a lot to do with PMS! but I was just crying to DH over.. My ultra messy kids and the fact that my quad hurts and this sunday is my first chance at bling for finishing the 8K and I don't know if I can with the way my leg feels. Ok, I am going to be one with the sofa after I clean up after my kids...
by the way, I don't think Santa needs to come here UNLESS, he is going to pick up toys and take some with him!

Kat - I hear ya! I have broken so many nails over the past few weeks holding on to the ledge that I am on.

Jo - Have you tried biofreeze? If not, you need to. Yes, it is pricey, but it works. And by all means, rest it. Can't wait for the princess either.

I totally get this. Here's hoping it's just an irritated something-or-other that will be fine with some advil, ice, new shoes and a little time off between OBX and Princess training.

I'm glad you found the inspiration that you needed Amiee! I was looking at mine the other day too! I think I'm going to post it on my bulletin board right here by my computer as a reminder to why it is I'm working so hard :lovestruc

With the birth of each of my 3 kids, my standards were forced to drop a little each time. I'm one person, they were 3 whirl-winds. There was no way I could possibly do everything, so I resolved to do what was most important - feed them, clothe them, read and play with them - the rest would get done on a sliding scale of importance. As they got older they were enlisted to do age & skill appropriate chores. It's just what it means to be part of a family. Heck - we all live here. I'm not the one who eats all the food I cook, wears all the clothes I was and certainly I'm not the one who dumped the Legos out onto the floor! Besides. With all those Legos, marbles, match box cars, etc all over the floor, I figured that if anyone ever tried to burglarize my house, they'd break a leg:rolleyes1.

The good news is, it does get better. It takes a while, but it does get better. Before you know it, they'll be off to college and there will be no one to pick up after. :sad1:

Hi Ladies! Gee whiz I need to catch up. I’ve been reading and hope there’s room on the wagon. I’ve been doing pretty well. My weight is the lowest since my sophomore year of college. I’m 95-100 pounds lighter than 10 years ago (never took a look at the top ; ). Running three days a week.

Did the KC half marathon in October and strained a quad. Coming back from that carefully. When I didn't run for a week I was sure I was inflating with every meal. It felt awful and unanchored.

I’d dreams of doing the Disney full in January and just can’t see it. I get some extended time off next year and we plan to go to Europe. Going to WDW to run that distance will cost at least $1,500. Just can’t do it. Instead I’m going to run the St Louis marathon in April. I did the half there last year. It will cost a tank of gas. I will do Mickey, just not this time.

Paula – you are groovy! Way to roar back.

Aimee – pictures and friends are powerful. Glad you found that.

Jo – I don’t have tiny tornados, but I think Nancy’s burglar ****y trap home sounds sane.

Cathie – hope you are feeling better and learning more about what it is.

Kelly – the in-law story is what brought me back! Grrrrr Great on the loss, too.

Erika – keep living the good life. Sounds like the kids are doing great.

Kat and Meg – rock your races this weekend! Can we get texts?

Hope everyone is doing great and headed into a wonderful fall weekend.

Ronda

Ronda! Hi!!! Miss you! Sorry to hear about the strained quad. That sounds very uncomfortable. Bummer that it means no Mickey this year. Tell me more about this European trip you are planning :goodvibes

Kat- This totally sounds like something I would say! I'm going to hope that this is a minor problem and the doctor can help you out. But I really will be hoping that your run Sunday goes well.

Hi Ronda!

I love everyone posting, despite my lack of posts I read ever night before I go to bed. Hopefully tomorrow I'll get together a better post for all of you!

Good morning! Two miles before work and I froze, lol. At work and only have to be here til 3. I pick up my TR and dining TR last night too.

Hi ALL
Ronda, tell me more about your quad issue, I am dealing with that right now to. I have an 8K on Sunday and I have not ran this week at all. I can walk ok. I feel it alittle when I do stairs but I felt it alot Monday when I ran, keep in mind last Saturday I did a 15K.

Great job on doing the St. L FULL!! Everyday I am so inspired by you, I have often thought of how you had said you have started this all with just a walk to the corner.

Amiee, tell me more about bioFreze.

OMG Nancy you are so right they will only be little for long. Next time I am going to take a picture of my basement and post it on facebook. Why O Why does Barbie need SOOOO many tiny pieces????

Kat, Meg, ROCK YOUR RACE!!!!!!
Remember, Run, Walk, Crawl or Inchworm to the finish if you have to.

Have a great day all, Off to fold more laundry.

Kat - I hear you on the doctor delay. Just let me do this next race. I was happy to heal quickly. What's your weather looking like?

Jo - I get little tweaky feelings in my legs on almost every run. They go away after a few minutes. It was the inner quad (vastus media-something?). Instead of going away, it got worse. It hurt with every footfall. The quads are like shock absorbers and every time I came back to earth it was hurting. After mile eight it hurt too much to keep running. I have no doubt many/most would have kept running, but 1) I'm a wuss, and 2) in the larger context it's just training for something bigger and I didn't want to set myself too far back. Walking didn't hurt at first. I tried restarting the run a couple of times but I was lurching pretty badly. I finished by walking. I got home and took an ice bath. After that I missed two runs. I felt pain for a day or two. After three days it only hurt going down stairs. I ran down the driveway while DGF wasn't looking and it still hurt. I ran again a week later. I could feel something, but it never rose to "pain". If I bent the knee all the way, like a baseball catchers crouch, it would hurt.

Most annoying is I don't know what happened. I'd done 14 miles two weeks before, the pavement is more forgiving than the sidewalks I run on. All I can find that is different is the street has a crown/arch to it and as a run/walker I spent a lot of time on the edges. Maybe the slant? I don't know. Now it's better and I've gotten back to my usual mileage on Tuesday and Thursday and need to plot a new long run plan for the weekends.

Where's your pain? Front? Sides?

Ronda

Its the front of my right quad, It feels tight, sore. I Stretch it and it does not hurt just tight, to tight to run.
I am really worried about the 8K on Sunday.
