In Search of My Body vol.9 - I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

Monday, Monday. Can't trust that day.

(are you singing with me people? :confused3 I know Lisa is ;))

After a nutty weekend filled with pumpkin whoopie pies, pepperoni pizza & chinese take out, I'm back on track. (for now at least. give it time though - it's still early in the day :scared:). Solid workout, tracking and now I'm pulling out my 1/2 marathon training schedules to figure out just what I need to do to get myself ready for the end of February! :thumbsup2

Meg- good luck this afternoon

Paula - JC tonight? Have you been doing well? I'm noticing that you haven't been posting and that's not typically a good sign :upsidedow

Haha yes Kat-pretty sure that was my subconcious rebelling lol.

I saw the doctor on Friday...which was pretty much a waste of my time. She felt around my abdomen and listened to everything for the 80 millionth time...and then just told me that basically there was nothing else that they could really do for me, and she's referring me to a G.I. specialist ( Wouldn't it be funny if his name was Joe??? :lmao:). Kinda seems like something she could have told me over the phone without charging an 80 dollar office call charge to my insurance.... So I should be hearing from them this week. Hopefully they can get the ball rolling so my life can get back to normal before Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone had a good weekend. Mine was...well pretty uneventful. Painted, and painted, and then painted some more. Grilled corn and steak last night...I refuse to give it up that the nice weather is gone lol.

There was a lot of drama this weekend involving a couple of friends that I've been dragged into...ugh. It's a long story so I won't bore everyone....but I just don't understand why it's so hard to find people who know how to be a good friend? :sad2:

I've lost a couple more pounds over the last week. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that my appetite has gone severely downhill....but part of me is a little proud because we recently started shopping at an organic foods store...All the meat, dairy, and produce there comes from local growers in Colorado and it's so much better tasting than what we used to get. We got a lot more HEALTHY snacks, since they don't sell as much junk, so it's easier to not buy it. And the total was actually CHEAPER than the regular grocery store. :cloud9:

Have a happy Monday everyone. I probably won't be back around until Wednesday, I have to finish my painting tonight and tomorrow is the critique. Keeping my fingers crossed that this one turns out good!

Hey ladies. So here's what happened today. I had a colposcopy because of an abnormal pap smear. I didn't know what this was till I was told I had to have one. Essentially what happened was the doctor found some abnormal cells on my cervix and they need to biopsy them to find out what exactly was causing this.

So today they went in and did the colposcopy. They are almost positive that it is low-grade precancerous cells. If the results of the biopsy confirm this then we will wait six months because sometimes it will clear up on its on, in six months they will do another pap smear and if that is abnormal again then they will have to remove the cells. If the results come back and it shows the cells have become a higher grade then they will talk about removing all the cells from the area. (New, healthy cells will grown in the area of the removed cells.)

I was not prepared for what the colposcopy would do to my body. I'm having muscle cramps and bleeding. (They applied a solution to where they cut into my cervix but it cannot always stem the bleeding.) I have been told no exercise, no lifting things, no squatting or stretching for about a week. She said absolutely no hockey for one week. She said to take it easy for the rest of the week and that I should be fine to run my half on Sunday. I have been in pajamas, laying down since I got home around 4.

I was told to call a week from today (the day before my birthday no less) to find out the test results. So I'm tired and in a bit of pain but at least I'm past wondering what this test would feel like.

Cathie- What kind of tests have you had? Have you had a colonoscopy or an endoscopy? My brother and sister both see a G.I. for different issues (my sister has ulcers on her stomach and my brother has Crohn's disease) and I have to say finding the right GI is huge! Are there foods that make the pain worse for you? Have your bathroom habits changed? (meaning are you going more?)

I'm no expert but these are the types of things that will help a doctor figure out your problems. Be aware this can be a long process to narrow down what is wrong because a lot of GI issues have similar symptoms. That's why the right GI doctor can make all the difference in the world.

Haven't had the colonoscopy or endoscopy yet...but they are hinting that that's the next step....which scares me. I have acid reflux so my doctor thinks it's something related to that...I'm unsure about that because this pain is different than anything I've ever felt before...

I've had numerous blood tests, 2 CT scans, and 2 ultrasounds. There's not any particular foods...and my bathroom habits have changed...that's kinda how this all started. I was really constipated...which more me is ODD. I had my gallbladder out when I was 17, and ever since then, I go a few times a day. So when it slowed down to once a day or not at all, I knew something was up. Then the pain came. And even laxatives weren't helping. I was hungry, but was so bloated it felt like I couldn't eat anything.

I'm hoping this is a good doctor, it's one my doctor reccomends highly.

And man, your pain right now sounds terrible. What an awful yucky situation :( Sorry for what you're going through right now  It sounds like it's really just a waiting game right now? That's gotta be so hard. We're all here for you :grouphug:

Cathie, sorry for eveything you are dealing with , I hope the doc's find an answer for you soon.

Meg, Glad that test is over, Crossing my fingers that its nothing in 6 months from now. Enjoy the rest week.

I know procedure like endoscopy or a colonoscopy can be scary but I can share a little about what my family has told me. (They've all had them done, I'm the only one who hasn't had to have them yet.) You won't remember it which to me is the good news. My brother says all he remembers is they give you drugs and its like being the happiest drunk ever. My brother's doctor told us my brother thought he was in a video game the whole time the tests were being done. These tests can tell a doctor so much about whats going on with you so they could really help.

Has your doctor talked to you about IBS or anything along those lines? I'm obviously not a doctor but some of what you said reminds me of IBS. Hopefully the GI will help you.

Yes, I'm in a waiting game. I'm just trying to find ways to distract myself from everything especially now that I can't run which is my usual distraction.

Jo- How do you feel a couple days after you race? Are you still enjoying the high from finishing? (I love that feeling.)

Ok off to work for me. (Yup, despite the fact I can't pick up kids I have to go in. The life of an over worked day care teacher.) Hope everyone has a great day!

Quick post Will post more later tonight. I was out of town for the weekend and all is well. Lost 1.4 this week and my head is back where it needs to be.

Jo - awesome job girl!!!!
Meg - I feel your pain. Been there done that a few years ago. Turned out to be nothing but I know the worry. Hang in there.
Cathie - good luck with the specialist. Hopefully the unknown will become known soon.

Have to run but will post a proper post later.

Nice job on the loss Paula! :thumbsup2

Sorry there seems to be so much illness with everyone! Hope y'all feel better soon! :upsidedow

I ran today. Actually ran. Not a walk/run combo - but a solid 3 mile run. I don't think I've done that since....well, I can't remember exactly when - but it was probably last winter some time.

You know, they actually haven't mentioned IBS, but I'm going to email my doctor and ask her if any of the testing we've done could have ruled that out.

Hi Everyone

Meg/Cathie - for both of you for all of your tests

Thanks-I know they're really nothing compared to what some other people go through every day who have very serious illnesses....but the CT scans are just awful. It completely wipes me out for the rest of the day...and all of the bloodwork is hard for me because I'm RIDICULOUSLY scared of needles.

Jo - I know I said it on FB but CONGRATULATIONS on your race!

Great job on the lost!!! SO glad you're back on track :)

Well, I called the G.I. Specialist yesterday, and they can't see me until next Friday! :scared1: She said they've been packed lately with people trying to use up their insurance before the first of the year. You'd just think they'd leave a slot or two open for more urgent cases where people are in bad pain constantly. I have to go through this for over a week now before I even get a CONSULT with them to see what we're going to do. I know I am complaining, but UGH this has been going on for nearly a month now. :sad2:

ETA: I just found a reason to quit whining about myself. Looks like some people got laid off at work today to be outsourced from another department :(:(:( This is the third time this year this has happened...people that have been here for a LONG time....so depressing and sad....and with us constantly running out of work throughout the day...it is getting scarier and scarier.

Hi Everyone!

Paula - great loss! :cool1:

Nancy - great job on the run! :thumbsup2

So tonight was WW - Im down 2lb! I was so surprised I nearly fell off the scale (something Ive done before may I add!) thats 6.5lb since I rejoined WW, and im just 0.5lb away from my first silver seven (you get a number 7 sticker for every 7lbs (half a stone) you lose!)

WW leader went through the new plan with us - the main difference is I now get 29 points per day and a 'slush fund' of 49 points! This sounds a lot, but the points value of everything has been reworked so many things are higher in points, all fruit and most vegetables are zero points! Instead of working points out on calories and saturated fat they are now worked out on carbohydrates, protein, total fat and fibre. There is science behind it but thats the basics! :lmao:
She did stress that the 49 points is a slush fund not a regular allowance! Its for things like a takeaway, a night out, a meal out etc. It sounds a lot but she gave an example of curry, rice and a naan bread (Mmmmmmm!) which is 40 points, so that gives an idea of how the points are worked!

Its going to take some getting used to, but I think it will be excellent! She did say that the UK is the last country to be moving onto this plan, so you guys may know all this already! :rotfl2:

Hope everyone is having a great day :cool2:

ummmmm...yeah. I think I have a problem. I got into some banana bread at work today, and now according to sparkpeople I have 7 calories left for today. :rolleyes1

Awesome Kelly!! :cool1: (well, not the falling part...)

The *old* way of doing points here was with total calories, total fat grams and fiber grams. Of course, I haven't been to an actual WW meeting in forever. Seriously -maybe 10 years? I just use the old program from time to time. I figure, if it works for me then why mess with it, kwim? I guess they need to keep their program fresh and up to date with the latest research, etc to encourage people to join (or re-join as the case may be) I find it interesting how they use so many elements in the calculating now though. Maybe it is to encourage people to eat a more well balanced diet? :confused3

I'm either genius or crazy. The jury is still out on that one.

Planning a vacation to San Diego....this could be interesting!

I know exactly what you mean - calorie counting obviously works, their old plan proved that! She did mention the more balanced diet - the higher the protein and fibre the more filling the food and the more your body works to digest it (I believe it was protein and fibre?!). when the plan was mentioned last week she said that science had discovered that calories weren't always calculated correctly, so WW was 'moving with the times'. Like I say though, calorie controlled diets are proven to work so who knows!

She also said it was 17 years since the old plan was introduced so keeping the program fresh has got to be a major factor in changing it.

Ive just done my meal plan for tomorrow - I seem to be eating a LOT of food and Ive only got 27 points down! This may take some getting used to :lmao:

Looks like the winner is GENIUS! :thumbsup2

Stephen and I are headed to San Diego the first week in December. Why San Diego you ask? Simply, because we've never been there. I've been so stinkin' busy this fall that I haven't had any time to look into what to do once we arrive there though. Today I decided to do a tiny little bit of research. And what did I discover? I discovered just how close San Diego really is to Anaheim. (well, comparatively speaking of course ;)) I'm travelling all the way across the country and I'm going to be less than 2 hours from DisneyLand?

Yep. I ran my idea by Stephen. I get to take a vacation from my vacation go to DISNEYLAND for a couple days in the middle of the week! (sorry E. Banana it is tonight )

OMG I adore DL (see tag :rolleyes1)

Becca is going to be so ticked <snicker>
