Paula, sorry to hear about your cousin.
Thanks everyone!! I am tired and sore and vegging on the couch.
Official time was already posted, but here is what my runkeeper app says:
http://runkeeper.com/user/69686130/activity/13788943.
We got up at 4:50AM so that we could get ready and cab it to the start line. Caught the cab at about 5:20 and were ready to go outside gear check at 5:45. Checked the bag, and waited for one more girl in the group to show up, which unforunately wasn't until almost 6:15.
Three of us really wanted to hit the port-a-potties, and the line was ridiculous at that point (gun start was 6:30). One of the girls was actually staying in a hotel right across the street, so we ran over there and used a real bathroom and were in our corrals about 3 min before the start.
This one was a lot different from the Princess... each corral was by projected finish time and no-one really seemed to be policing the corrals much.
Anyhow, 36 min after gun time, I crossed the start line. I was alone since my friend was going to be way faster (she finished in 2:29) and she is kind of the type that wants alone time anyhow.
The first 3-4 miles went great, and then my left shin started to hurt. By mile 6 it was killing me, so I started walking a lot more than the 2/1s I started with. I think I walked all of miles 7 and 8, then started in with 1/1s but was having a lot of trouble running. By mile 11 or so my right hip was hurting in sympathy.
However, I made it through. GPS says 13.95 miles and 2:53 - I started the app when our corral stepped up to start, so I guess it took 3 min to cross the start line.
Also, I didn't finish last in our little group! 2 girls finished under 2 hours, my friend was about 2:30, and the other 2 were 2:47 and 2:59.
The bands and such were nice and all, but somewhat unnecessary. I had my headphones in anyhow, and the bands just didn't last long enough to be more than a novelty.
It was cooler than home, but still not really very cool. About 70 and on the humid side to start and probably 75-80 at the finish and sunny.
Anyhow, now I am on the couch and icing my shin. This group isn't as fun as us (well, they can all go home!) so we went to lunch and then everyone dispersed. My friend has a dehydration headache so she is laying down and I am anchoring the couch.
Tomorrow, I go from here to spend the week in San Antonio for work.
