In Search of My Body vol.9 - I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

Oh ok, yeah that is a long way for 2 minutes of race time. Yup I signed up, it's one of the new $10 a month business-model gyms, so I'm hoping that shows to be very successful.

I actually ended up not going today, but I did go out to the track and complete Week 1 Day 1 of Couch to 5K. It went reasonably well in my opinion. It's really funny how it is when first working out, I think I went through the whole gamut of emotions. After the second set of intervals, i was pretty sure I was going to die if I kept going, around interval 5 the numbness was kicking in, so was just pretty much on autopilot from there. It's about 38 degrees out (and I'm in Georgia so that's pretty cold to me hehe) and so that was making me cough a little, but nothing too bad. Overall, it felt great to finally get started.

Nancy - can you see the XC runners most of the time or do they go 'round the bend and out of sight?

I did 12 miles on the treadmill this morning. Just under 12:00 pace. Happy with that under those circumstances. Got home and DGF had a full tub of cold water waiting for me. She thinks I'm crazy. Followed the frigid soak with a warmer shower and lunch.

We picked out some tile to replace the really ugly ceramic tile that surrounds our fireplace. There will be hammers and dust soon. I continue to fiddle with photo lighting setups. Moving the operation to the basement ; )

Hope everyone is having a great weekend. Looking forward to hearing about Liz and Kat's trips.

Meg, Jo, Lisa, EE, E, Liz, Kat, Kelly, Rob, Amy Paula - hey!

Hi! :wave2:

Reporting in from the Boardwalk! We got a great view, 3rd floor, in the Crest 'O the Wave section. BW view is amazing.

Off to 'Ohana!

(... yes, not exactly weight loss thread!)

Planet Fitness perhaps? That's the gym I belong to.

Nice job! Kelly just started the C25K as well!

Depends on the course. Most of them criss-cross or loop around so you get to see the runners several times - there are a couple of courses they run that are a spectators dream! :lovestruc I'm soooo going to miss x-country. Nate graduates this year - and he's been running since 6th grade. 7 seasons. That's quite a lot of races.

Nice job on the 12 miles Ronda! Nice pace! Are you doing all run or a run/walk combo?

I just bought some new fuel yesterday. I've never tried the Gu chomps. I got the blueberry pomegranate. I'll try them on Monday when I'm slated for a 9 miler.

:dance3: Have a GREAT trip. Total trip envy going on right now here. but, I'm drinking, so.... yeah. :rolleyes1 I'll survive.

Hi All

First Ronda, how did you do 12 on the treadmill, please tell me how.
I have to do 11 tomorrow, I will use the treadmill and the indoor track, but 10 times around it a mile. I am so so not feeling it.

Rob, I started with the C25K also, and don't tell anyone but the first 2 miles of every run I still feel like I am going to die and I want to give up. '

Hi Kat, Have a great trip. Enjoy your dinner.

Nancy, I have not heard of Gu Chomps. I was just at the run store and I got a whole bunch of sports beans so I am sent for the race. Tell me how you like the Gu? Did you hear from Nate, how did he do?

Busy day, dentist, kohls and princess party at the disney store. I got a crown the Ariel one that is more like a wreath type crown. Not sure if I will keep it, they said the have a cinderella one coming, so I may get that instead! I got my new shoes it I will break them in tomorrow.

Happy Saturday All

Nancy - For long runs I use a 5:1 interval. Shorter runs are either all run or 3:1 (that's usually a hilly one). I've started using the Clif Bloks. I think they are a lot like the Chomps, maybe bigger. Neater than the gels.

Kat - how long is this trip? Way jealous. I need to get serious about planning my March trip.

:wave2: Hi Jo  Ok. slightly buzzed here, so....yeah. Don't mind me. :rolleyes1

I didn't here from Nate per se....but one of his buddies called me to say not to worry about dinner, the bus had stopped at McDonald's. :goodvibes

TM. Oh boy do I play mind games on the TM. At Planet Fitness (at least the one I belong to) the TM's shut you off after 1 hour. So, I do however many miles before I get shut down, take a quick pee break and start again. Breaking my long runs down into 5 mile (or less) "chunks" makes it seem less horrid. so, when I hit my 11 mile training run, I'd probably do 4/4/3. Because I *know* I can do 4 miles, right? :confused3

ooh! Nate just drove in the driveway. I guess I'll know how his race went very soon :goodvibes

Jo - Mainly it's about fear. This will be my first marathon and I am scared to death of not checking off the runs on my training plan. I'm also afraid of getting hurt on the ice/snow. So put me down as a fraidy cat. I have a few podcasts that I listen to on Saturday long runs. They help. But it just grinds. They are newer machines and handle the speed up/down for the intervals better than the old ones. Okay, there's one more thing... on Saturdays there's nearly no one in the gym (it's at work) so you get to claim a machine and keep it for the whole run. There's something about outlasting EVERYONE who gets on a TM. A perverse pride I guess.

Nancy - yeah, our machines quit after an hour, too. Wussies. I shut it down and reset with a walk break. Sorta like feeding the meter ; )

Ronda

Jo - I won't lie to you. Long runs on a treadmill generally suck. I did my ling walks on Sundays when I could watch a football or a hockey game. Good music is a must and the interval work helps keep things from getting boring. Hang in there - they go quicker than you think - provided you block the clock from view ;-)

I still use Cliff's shot bloks as my fuel. Love it!

Hey ladies. Just wanted to say hi and I am reading everything. Just hard to respond when all I have is my iPhone! Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

7 is great Jo! IMO, it's so much more important to listen to and take care of your body in order to prevent injury than to push for those extra miles. You still have plenty of time to build your mileage up to where you want it to be.:thumbsup2

I have a much needed rest day today - tomorrow is scheduled to be 9 miles for me. I'll probably do a walk/run combo. When I did my 8, it was all run - but I got to go outside. Tomorrow the high temp is forecast to be 8* coming off morning lows of around -10*. Yep. Too cold for me to run outside. So, TM mind games it shall be.

I really like the Sports Beans. The chomps are too gummy-bear-like for me (I HATE gummy bears) and they stick to the top of my mouth (like a dog w/peanut butter), and the GUs are messy. The sports beans have the right sour/sweet/salty consistency for me and are easier to eat. I like the Sour Cherry w/ caffeine.

This trip is check in Sat w/ a BWV BW-View studio for Sat/Sun, then a BWV BW-View 1-bedroom for Mon-Fri nights, check out Sat and drive back to NC.

We have determined that Saturdays are too crowded for our tastes, so that will be a travel day for us always. This way I get Sunday off to rest and recover and do laundry and basically get out of vacation mode.

Today is a lazy day... slept until I wanted to, hung out on the balcony drinking coffee, and we are finally getting our behinds in gear and heading to the Magic Kingdom for a while. Dinner at Paradiso 37, and back to the room in time to catch Illuminations from the balcony with a cocktail. :)

Hi Everyone!

Jo - I agree with Ronda and Nancy - even though I don't have running experience I have bad back experience - listen to your body because if your back gets hurt it really limits what you will be able to do!

Kat - Total trip envy!

Rob - How are you finding C25K so far? I started it last week! I have planned to do two weeks on each week if that makes sense. For me slow and steady is definitely the way to go!

Everyone - Hi! :lovestruc

Kat, Enjoy your week, I am totaly jelouse.
I have never seen illumination enjoy your day.

Kelly, hows your running going. Is you Aunt still doing it with you?

Good Luck on your 9 Nancy, my car said it was 8* this morning

My lower back was very tight, I has to stop and strech every .25 mile.
I have 2 more chances for a long run, next weekend and then Feb 13
I hope to do 11 then 12/13. Do you think if I don't ever hit 13 I can still finish? Its it that much more on the body going 3 more miles?
( I have done 10)

Enjoy your Sunday all.
Go Bears, Go Steelers!!!

Today is a lazy day... slept until I wanted to, hung out on the balcony drinking coffee,

Hello.  it!

I didn't even realize that it was time for your trip Kat. Geez, have fun.

I'm so out of it. They just won't release my father. :confused3 To get the reasons out of my mom or him - forget about it.

Hopefully, he'll be out tomorrow. :confused3

Kelly!!!!!!!!!!! When's the weigh-in?

 to everyone.

I have never seen illuminations

Whoa Nelly. ;) :lovestruc

There was a girl on my last TR - Crystal - that had never been to the Boardwalk and she'd been at WDW for years. And then I got out of her - in a funny way (she's cute) - that she didn't even know there was a back exit at Epcot.

We are all so WDW nuts that we don't remember that not everyone knows EVERTHING.

Here's to you seeing it this trip Jo. It's lovely.
