In Search of My Body vol.9 - I Get By With A Little Help From My Friends

Dear under-trained friends,

We will be fine (because I said so).

Yours truly,
Double E

Agh, it's Monday! I think I'm catching a cold. Sigh

It is SO SO SO true. We will ALL be fine. Really. I am heading out for a 5-miler shortly. It is amazing that sounds SO FAR right now. But by the end of this, a 5-miler is nothing. Crazy!

Way to go on the losses! WOOT!

Lots to say--

First, I finally got my head out of my a$$ and made reservations for the Princess! Mixed news--the good news is that we have all 3 days in a 2-br at the same resort. Since I was SO late in booking (my fault totally--sorry!) I was really worried that we were going to have to move due to lack of availability. So the good news is that we get to stay put. The other news...we aren't at BWV. Sorry! We are waitlisted, though. We are booked at SSR. And I know it isn't a favorite resort for some, but it IS lovely and we will have fun. And at least it is walking distance to DTD. But maybe the waitlist will come through! Here's hoping. Oh dates--26, 27, & 28. I am coming in on Saturday so that is when the SSR res starts.

It is a crazy booking for me since the family is coming down after our trip. I have 26, 27, 28 in our 2-BR at SSR. Then on March 1st and 2nd (Tuesday and Weds. nights) I move to a studio at AKV. Anyone who is still in town can stay with me. Then Thursday my family gets in. So on Thursday, Friday, Sat. and Sunday nights we are in a 2-BR at Bay Lake. 10 DAYS! Yay!

Ok, back to catch up a bit....

ah Monday. What a cruel day. :sad2:

Shush Erika. I know that you adore Mondays!

I weighed in this morning. I'm down 2 pounds. Not that excited about it. I know I had a TON of holiday bloat. I guess I was hoping it was more bloat and less, um, me? :confused3

I DO I DO I DO love Mondays!

Good luck on the 8. Sending good running vibes now!

Body Glide.

Seems like a random thought- but I just threw it back into my gym bag. :upsidedow

:rotfl2: YES! A must-have!

AMY! Awesome job on the loss! Goddess crown for you!

hahaha....btw....totally ot...

I just had the most entertaining thought.

Our group/thread here could totally be turned into a lifetime movie.

:lmao:

Ok back to your regularly scheduled program.

:rotfl2: Nope, not me. My life is the epitome of anti-drama! Just running...and running kids to and from every event under the sun. But you know....day in and day out, just living life.

Nancy. The trip report question.

Here's the scoop. I'm so sad. I SO want to come. But I don't think that's enough recovery time from the operation.

Apparently, I need six weeks. But I think that's bull.
But I have an AP. ;)

It IS bull. You can totally go. They're wrong, I'm right. Now it's all sorted. :thumbsup2 AND you have an AP! See you there. Word.

:cloud9: Having a "wizard of oz" moment now....there's no place like home ....

Have a safe trip back tomorrow Paula!

Good God, no more Wizard of Oz! I can't take it! 10 days till show time...

Hey everyone, just wanted to stop in and say hi since it's been forever since I had the chance to get online. Congrats to everyone that did race this weekend, I look forward to joining y'all next year for the half.

I'm probably gonna sign up for my first 5k in March, so good times.

Hey Rob! Great to see you again! YAY for the 5k! WOOT! Love new runners! :cool1:

Just a drop in post..

I just did 9 miles. but I walked most of mile 7 -9
My feet hurt.

Kat, tell me agian what shoe you use, I just got mine on runningwearhouse,
its just my left foot.

Ok off to shower.

Great job on the 9-miler! Way to go!

As for the shoes...hmmm...going from a Saucony to a Nike is well, odd. You can't find too more different brands of running shoes. Sauconys do well for a wider foot (like mine) and have a wonderful, roomy toe box. Nikes are definitely a more narrow cut--especially in the toe box. Of course, this varies with all of the different models, etc. but as a general rule that is how it play out.

Now as for the new Sauconys...here's the issue. You went with the pink. Yes, seriously that is the problem. Different color = different cut in the Sauconys. They are made here in Maine and we know some of the execs. They always say if you love the shoe, buy the exact same shoe. Same model AND same color.

My shoes r saucony progrid 3

I have used a cushion sox the past 2 runs.
I am going to try to go to another run store this weekend.

Thanks for being there for me. I cant wait to finish this race with all of u.

Absolutely!

One of my reps almost busted me on the internet, lol. Groceries - I need to start a list (this includes drinks). Let me know any special requests.

Class starts tonight for me and I can
't focus.

E-- SSR :love::love:

Seeing E's post made me get off my a$$ and register. 91% full!

Oh, good! I was so worried you would be disappointed with SSR! Glad you are ok with it! :goodvibes

Nope. No joke. That's just running shoes. Any change in the production line will cause a slight change in the fit of the shoe.

This is going to be a crazy-long post. I wonder if it's possible to fill an entire page with a post? Or have a post so long that it needs to be continued onto the next page? Not that I'm going to try to break some post-length record (I mean, I'm competitive and all, but that's just stupid ) but I have a lot to say.

Nancy - I think 2lbs is GREAT!!!! :cool1:

....

I gained this week. I'm so up. It was such a hard week last week, emotionally. I am heavy and untrained and not ready at all for this half...or maybe my whole life. Yeah, little discouraged this morning!

Thank you. I'll take the 2 pounds and be happy. Not content, but happy. Does that make sense?

Discouraged AND Monday. What a lousy combination. Throw in PMS and you'll have the Craptastic Trifecta! Listen. Trained, untrained, at goal weight or not. We are going to have a GREAT time in Fla. It's not about the race, or the weight - it's about US. And it will rock because we say it will. And that makes it Goddess Law. princess:

 I feel untrained and not ready either. We will make it through together, I promise!!

see above. Now that the aircast is off, how've you been feeling?

Third undertrained person checking in! We will all make it! :goodvibes

again on the "see above". ;)

Weekend was pretty lame, other than Bunco on friday night where I won $50 dollars

(and put in a nice training session for the drinking portion of princess weekend :drinking1 :drinking1)

and you said you were undertrained. ;)

and a nice trail walk with the family on Saturday. A slow walk due to Delena picking up acorns every 2 feet but I did carry J Cash in the bjorn so it was a decent work out.

extra resistance with JCash. It's going to make you feel so light and free when you go it alone!

So unhappy with my abs right now. UGH.

OMG, give yourself a break! you just had a baby. I *have* no excuse.

Dear under-trained friends,

We will be fine (because I said so).

Yours truly,
Double E

see above. And she's right. Except about the getting sick part, because we won't allow that.

First, I finally got my head out of my a$$ and made reservations for the Princess!

I don't call that "mixed news", I call that amazingly great news! Thanks :flower3:

:rotfl2: Nope, not me. My life is the epitome of anti-drama! Just running...and running kids to and from every event under the sun. But you know....day in and day out, just living life.

yes, ms. jumbotron is sooooo boring ;)

It IS bull. You can totally go. They're wrong, I'm right. Now it's all sorted. :thumbsup2 AND you have an AP! See you there. Word.

True that! Are you listening Lisa? The pipsqueak has spoken :rotfl:

Good God, no more Wizard of Oz! I can't take it! 10 days till show time...

We're seeing W.O.O. at the Bushnell next week. :thumbsup2 Can't wait!

All good info. And the "pink" - is it simply the color pink or are they the breast cancer shoes? Sadly it seems (from my personal experiences and info) that manufacturers skim on the quality of construction on their Pink Ribbon lines -I'm assuming because they have comitted to give a portion of the proceeds to charity, so they need to up their profit margin on the shoes so they can still make $$ on them.

I, myself, can't wear Nikes. They just don't fit me right. I need the wider toe box, narrower heel, motion control shoe. New Balance has always been my shoe of choice - but it's just that choice. Everybody's foot is different, as well as their stride, etc.

I cant wait to finish this race with all of u.

Back at ya! Gosh Jo. Think back. What were you doing in January of last year? :confused3

Ok. Now about ME

I had to do 8 miles this morning, which I was positively dreading after Saturdays horrific run. I ended up doing 5.5 miles on the TM (55:06 - not too bad) and then went out for the 2.5 mile loop. Holy crap that 2.5 miles was HARD! The freakin' wind was in.sane. Terrible. I swear I felt like I was running in place at times. Hard, hard, hard. Almost exactly 29:00 on the last 2.5. Hard.

But it's done and in the books. I did realize a couple of things as I was runnin' against the wind (sing it with me Lisa :goodvibes )

1) I have not yet considered fuel for my long runs. Today's took me about 1:24:00 for 8 miles. I have always used 1:30:00 for my fueling guideline. If a workout is going to be 1:30:00 or longer, I fuel somewhere around the hour-ish mark. I need to think about that and get myself prepared.

2) I have done all my training as running thus far. Last year it was a run/walk combo but my hip flexor bothered me and thus it felt better to do more running than walking. Today I realized 8 miles of running is about my hip flexor's limit. So I must figure out how I'm going to deal with that.

3) my lips are chapped. Which doesn't have too much to do with my training, but it's something that I realized :rotfl2:

I think I'm drunk on endorphins.

WOOT on the 8-miler Nancy! Awesome! And OMG, you kicked us all last year with your run/walk combo. If you run the majority of the race this year you will smoke everyone!

In any case, I am in a similar place. I am thinking that due to my very late start in training, I will be able to run the first 8-9 miles at best and then have to run/walk the rest. Let me get to my first 10-miler and see how that goes. So maybe we can come up with something together.

Nancy, i love love love goddess law!!

Ever see the devil wears prada..that's my boss and that's my Monday
and pms to that mix and I and steps away from a ice cold coke ha ha

Nancy too funny on the chap lips because I thought about that while I was doing my n
nine

Sorry to go back to the shoe question, but shpuld i just order my d shoe.and cut my loss
Or wait and get fitted again

Miles done! on the TM. I had planned for outside. Started to get J and I ready. Then I noticed it was very very dark. :scared1: Checked the radar. We were under a severe thunderstorm warning. It's still storming. This is supposed to be January NOT August!! Anyhow, it went well. Basically ran 1-2 min walked 4 min. I was expecting the worst with the running part but it was really ok.

Great job, Amy! My miles are done, too! 5 miles in 45:50. Now that I feel like I have a base, I am going to shift it into low gear and start adding up the miles. Tomorrow I have 4 planned and then 8 on Thursday...that'll be a real test.

Do you trust your running shoe store? Chances are things (about your feet/gait/etc.) have changed since you started running. So what was right for you a year ago, may not work anymore. If you have a good store, I would say get re-fitted.

And I don't think I mentioned this, but I have been in a new shoe for the past couple of months. I was a die-hard Saucony girl (like Nancy is with NB). But my running coach really liked the new Brooks for me. So he put me in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS and OMG, love right out of the box. No break in period. Perfect from the get go. And GTS stands for Go-to Shoe. Apparently, it is the most popular shoe on the market for anyone with a neutral foot (no pronation or supination). And my feet are wide.

So don't be afraid of a different brand. :goodvibes

Amy,E great job on getting ur runs in.
Craptastic workday continues but i have some good news
Before dishing out more $$ on new shoes i called runningwearhouse
they will take them back and send me a new pair.. i am so happy.
now i have more money for drinking ay the princess
