In search of my body...not the one I ate!

Hi Guys -
New here, but couldn't help wanting to join in, the attitude and environment of this thread is refreshing!
I've struggled with my weight my whole life, i'm an unhealthy weight, and i'm unhappy about it, and it's time to take some action! I'm getting married in June, and i don't feel beautiful when i look at myself in my wedding dress in the mirror, i see the extra weight, and nothing else. I don't want to look back and hate all of my wedding photos, or be uncomfortable my entire honeymoon because i'm too self conscious to wear shorts/tank tops/swim suits (and it's at Disney in JUNE, what was i THINKING!) :confused3
I'm an emotional eater, thats one of the big problems, i eat when i'm stressed and nervous, which planning a wedding, paying off my car, and my fiance's astronomical student loans off means i'm stressed 100% of the time. And while i love my job, i'm usually sitting, and 2.5 years ago when i was in college, i was walking miles and miles each day just running from one end of campus to another, so i could eat less than perfectly and actually lost some weight. Unfortunately, my eating habits stayed the same, and i was slammed into a sedentary office job..... not good for my waistline! I need to really put some effort into working out, eating healthier so i'm not only healthier, but happier. And i need some support, i have no will-power! So here we go, i'm crossing my fingers! Can't wait to get to know everyone!

Welcome!!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I so understand the trials of what I call the office chair butt spread syndrome. I too was able to lose some weight in college, but got the office job after and have been up and down ever since.

What is your plan for losing before the wedding? Some of us here do South Beach, others do WW, I do plain old calorie counting.

Thanks for the welcome :goodvibes

As far as losing, i'm going to
1 - get a regular exercise schedule, at least 30 minutes a day for at least 5 days a week, nothing super strenuous to start, however i can't stick to my current "when i feel like it" mode, as well, the longer i go between workouts, the less i feel like it!
2 - cut out a lot of the processed, fried, eating out crap that i eat.
3 - eat a vegetable every now and then :scared1: i know i know, i'm like a five year old, but to this day i literally have to choke them down, i don't get it!

It's hard to go with most diet programs because there are so many things i can't eat, and then certain things i have to. I can't have caffeine, chocolate (ok, those two probably help), nuts, seeds, things that are too spicy, too much dairy. I need to eat a lot of fiber, so low/no carb won't work (heck my SUPPLEMENTS have tons of carbs in them...). But i honestly think if i just get a routine down, and cut the stuff that NO ONE should be eating out, and just plain eat less, actually measure portion sizes, and count calories, that should give me a good start. And once i start to see a little bit of result, i hope i'll be motivated.

WELCOME to our newest friend! This is a great thread with truly AMAZING people! :grouphug: I can't tell you how much this thread and how much WISH has helped me!

We're here to cheer you on! Since you have such restrictions, sounds like good ol' fashioned calorie counting may the way to go for you! Kat here does www.sparkpeople.com and loves it. Other folks do www.fitday.com and really swear by that. Both are free and are food-tracking websites.

Me? I hate counting stuff (other than how many DVC points I have left and how many days till my next trip! :rotfl2: ) but I just jumped on the Weight Watchers band wagon, so I'll be updating people on how it's going.

Ok...I think I figured out my lack of loss...I am UNDER-eating for the amount of activity I am doing. This will never make sense to me...in order to LOSE weight, I need to eat MORE food...:confused3 . I have heard all of the explanations, it is just still counter-intuitive to me.

On the other hand...CARBS are back in my life! :lmao:

Ok, time to go back and catch up with some of you....I know I am missing stuff...

Welcome!!! :welcome:

I *heart* sparkpeople.

I like calorie counting because of the flexibility. I have looked at diet plans and there was always something that made me go, eh. For one, I hate tomatoes and carrots, and they all seem to be chock full of them. And they want you to eat huge breakfasts and I don't have the time (or the desire).

I was not a big veggie person, but 2-3 days of calorie restriction and I was hungry enough to eat my cube!! I find that the parkay butter spray helps. I actually like steamed broccoli and salad veggies (w/ light three cheese ranch), but most of the rest of it is stuff I have trained myself to eat because I am so hungry that it looks good.

I also try to find ways to bulk up my food with veggies... like a stir fry, or fajitas, or over pasta. I sometimes use a package of lowfat creamed spinach as a base for a pasta sauce, and add a bit parmesan cheese, broccoli, other veggies. They cook down and you still get the bulk and the fiber without really having to notice that you are eating them.

Okay, food for today (and example that 1200 cals can be TONS of food):
B: coffee, 100-cal pack blueberry muffins
L: flax/wheat pita (60) w/ 1 laughing cow cheese (35), 1 serving turkey (35), red onions, lettuce, and 1 T bacon bits (25). Salad (100). SF double chocolate pudding (60).
S: 1/4 cup pineapple (20) + 8 sliced strawberries (20)
D: boneless pork chop (240) stuffed w/ 1/2 serving stove top (55), w/ 2 small sliced red potatoes (100) and one small onion (20), all sprayed w/ cooking spray and liberally seasoned w/ oregano, basil, garlic salt, salt/pepper, and roasted for 45 min at 350. 1 cup steamed broccoli (30).
S: 1 bag 94%ff popcorn (180)

Total for today, 1080, although I haven't yet eaten the popcorn and may have 100 cals of either cupcakes or fiber cereal. Exercise, 30 min on elliptical, 30 min weight training. Water, 64 oz.

Hope everyone had a great day!!

So, I'm full of questions. What workout clothes do you have your eye on (yes, I'm a P.E. teacher-it shows) ? What songs have you been listening too or switched too. Who out there are DVC members. We became DVC members in 1997 BW and last year bought some points at AKLV. We love the BW, AKL, WL and I like Dixie Landings (PORS) and the kiddos like the AS too.

Workout clothes...I have several Nike running shirts (the wicking material type) and then I just wear unlined black windpants.

Yes, we are DVCers...SSR and AKV. Love them both and we are SO happy we purchased DVC!

iPOd--I listen to the DIS Unplugged, of course! Seriously, I have tried all of the different Disney podcasts, but the one from the DIS boards is BY FAR the best. SO entertaining plus informative. However, there is not enough of the podcast to get me through a whole week's worth of exercising, so I also listen to audiobooks. I download them for free and then pop them on my iPod and I am good to go!

Yup, I have office chair butt as well. I work online and primarily from home (which is why I am online all the time...:rolleyes1 ) and I swear that my a$$ is conforming to the chair seat....Plus, just being in my own home, with the frdige and kitchen right here, etc....it has its own set of challenges.

I am off for the week-end (no running either). My middle kiddo is turning 7 this week-end so we are off to Boston to see HSM on Ice. Leaving first thing in the morning and returning Sunday evening.

Have a great week-end everyone!

Beautiful day here...highin the 30's so I am thinking of donning a speedo and sports bra and go out for a jog...or at least a walk fully clothed...we shall see..

Crazy day here...Carsyn and Jodi and her gang left at 4:30 a.m. for Fort Meyers...Carsyn happily texted it was 78 degrees at 11:30 when they landed! :worship:

Ok, so hopefully i'm ready for this! I bought myself a scale this morning, haven't had one in years. Ordered a good treadmill, should be here in 10 days, comes with hand weights and stuff too. I'm really determined to do this! (and the threat from my fiance saying "with the money we just dropped on that treadmill, you BETTER use it!) ;) I set up an account on fitday to track what i'm eating, I'm actually excited to start, i almost wish i didn't have to wait for my treadmill to get here! Sticking to the manual treadmill until then (below zero windchill is TOO darn cold to go walkin!) Hopefully i'll be able to lose a little weight before its time for me to be a :bride:

Hi Everyone...

Well, I finally made it back from Rhode Island... Yesterday's storm was pretty rough down there and I had forgotten how badly the RI DOT kept the roads, so my cousin and I ended up spending the night and driving back today... Needless to say, I am not sure my eating plan is on track, but what can you do when life throws curveballs like this at you?

I am off to get some sleep, it has been a long couple of days and then I will get back on track tomorrow...

Have a good night everyone and I'll try to catch up on all of your posts tomorrow...

Talk to you later,
Paula

I am very excited for you...I know you will do great...and any number before the day that is lost is a positive...
Maybe figure out how many weeks x 2 pounds a week (very do-able) and start journaling a letter to the groom about what each pond means to you and him...

Like:
I lost the first pound because I want to be a long-term wife to you and know that any weight I carry that is extra...may take days from our future.

I lost the second pound because I love when you hold me close...and this will help you hold me closer.

I lost the third pound because you and I want to hike in the mountains and a pound less on my tukkus is a pound less to hike with!

Okay...maybe that sounded nerdy...but I think it would be a great way to show him that this loss is for a life change...not a moment change...and what a great gift to give him...the surprise of how much you lost...plus all the meaning behind it.

I hope that might give you some incentive honey... I am off to see if you have a pre-trippie...I want details of this trip!!

Paula-
Happy to hear you are back safe and sound.

Well, I've banned myself from Costco. I'll send the list with DH. The food court derailed me 2 weekends in a row, and this was on the way home from the Y. I did really well at the Y. The good news is everything we bought was great food. I've not been sleeping -I usually stick with a plan, but not when I'm so sleep deprived. So, no costco for me.

I get it.....I am not sleeping well myself and want to eat not the right choices when tired...need sleep....perusing Disney receipes :surfweb: and want to cook bad food!

:lmao: :lmao: at Dawn and DWD!!

I did really well today, but not because I was trying. I wound up having to work from 5PM-midnight, off and on, and just never got a chance to eat much. However my upgrade finally went finished successfully, so at least I have that.

Food for today:
B: Coffee, 2/3 cup fiber cereal (80), 1/4 cup skim milk (20)
L: Pita (60), 1/2 tbsp bacon bits (15), 1/8 cup mozzerella (40), sprinkling of blue cheese (10), w/ cucumber/red onion salad made w/ dill, salt/pepper, and vinegar (15)
D: 1 cluster snow crab (100), 20 small shrimp (100), asparagus (20), artichoke (60), all steamed together and served w/ 1 Tbsp melted butter (50)
S: 10 oz white wine (150-175?)

Total, about 725. Exercise, none, unless you count shopping. Water, 64 oz.
