In search of my body...not the one I ate!

Well...I went shopping today. Now I'm not scared of 3 way mirrors. I and my fat are on intimate terms. I know it's there. It knows it's there. And when I am scrutenizing it...I am usually standing up.

I see myself in 2D. I look down and it's not so bad.

When I get the full on, despression inducing, effect is when I sit down in the dressing room, on the stool, in front of the mirror, and I see the spread. The full spread of my hips. My hips that don't look so awful bad when standing up. My hips that don't look so awful bad when I look directly down. My hips that have spread and I realize this is how others see me.:scared1:

So I was reading another thread somewhere. And these women were talking of quality jeans. "you really must spend a little more money, get quality jeans and you'll look so much better. Smaller even."

I try anything. I head to Nordstroms. 7 For All Man Kind or some such jeans in my head. I'm ready to throw down $100 - $150 if the spread is minimized. (I normally get my jeans at the Fashion Bug, $30.) Nordstroms...I only go here to look at handbags and sunglasses. I haven't even bothered shopping where "The Beautiful People" shop for clothing. I have my dignity.

Maddi and I head up the esclator, she's just happy to ride the esclator. Step off into the holy grail of beauty. Don't look directly at the sales people. They might point you to Lane Bryant.

My pep talk in my head, "I could be shopping for anyone. Yea, I can afford this." NOT!

I find the jeans and start browsing quickly. $156. $149. Wimpering, but for the love of all that is holy, I want to look hot. (Momentarily forgeting that size 14/16 really is a pretty far stretch for hot, unless your big daddy like his muffin' puffin'. But I digress...)

So I look at the size. 29. What is this 29? 29! Now that's what I'm talkin' bout. But wait, taking a closer look, 29 probably won't fit over my calf. Checking for larger sizes. 31. 29. If 29 is a 4 in poor people world, I will need a 42 min. 29. 31. 32. 30. No 42's at all. I quickly realize these jeans ain't for momma.

Misson Aborted. Misson Aborted. I need to get my "Elephant in the department" "ask" out of there as casually and inconspiciously as possible.

Maddi and I walk aroound noncholant, like we belong. She likes the lights on the wall. I agree. They are beautiful.

Past the "special occasion" cloths. Read, flashy and VERY pricy.

Past the lingere. Yeah right. Let me magnify my first and third tummy rolls. They like attention.

Wait, what's this? 2 ladies, bigger ladies, looking at clothes. I step a little closer. Looks like Norstroms has a plus section. There is no advertising. I scan the signs. It definately not advertised, but right in front of me are jeans called "Not Your Daughters Jeans." I step from the walkway into the section. NYDJ have some special patent pending "criss cross that is going to take away a whole size from my frame." $88. I'm in.

Grab a pair and head to the dressing room. The salesperson is soo soo nice. "Do you want to look around for more clothing to try on?" "No thanks"-can't you see I'm slick with sweat for stepping out of my comfort zone this far and now I'm carrying jeans that have Patent Pending Fat Buffers. Please-just get me a room ASAP. She sets us up. I slide the bad boys on. They are so thin, they actually hug every dimple, roll and cellulite pock I own.:scared1:

My $30 are stiff enough they hold it in naturally.

I guess the moral of the story is, "Quality" jeans are for skinny minnies, wait, rich skinny minnies, and I'm gonna stick with Fashion Bug.

OMG! Hilarious! :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:

I acutally read this last night before going to bed and I am still chuckling about it today!

I SO agree with the lingerie statement! It just clings in all the wrong places...:scared1:

OK...for my MAJOR news of the day...

I JUST RAN A 5-FREAKIN'-K ON THE TREADMILL!

That's right...I spanx'd up (oh yeah, it is part of my workout attire now...:rotfl: ), went to the gym, and ran (ok, jiggled) for 36 consecutive minutes! Yes, that is a 12-minute mile for anyone keeping track, so I am slower than the line for Dumbo moves. But the point is that I RAN for 36 minutes!

I am bursting! (In a good way...not out of my jeans...for once! :rotfl: )

ok - back to your previously scheduled thread....:goodvibes

And, thanks Dawn for giving me the link to this thread! I've taken a little while to read through and I see that you all are incredibly supportive. I, like you, need to lose weight. I've tried many times and have been successful at losing weight, but never losing down to my goal and never maintaining the weight that I did manage to lose. I find that there is always something that triggers me to go back to my bad habits. And, it always takes a while to get myself back on track. I know that I am an emotional eater, so overcoming that is a struggle.

I will never completely give up on this quest, as I know that if I do, my life will be cut really short and I have two sons to take care of. I'm so tired of hiding behind all of this weight. I have over 100 pounds to lose total, but I plan to make smaller goals of 10lbs each. I have started over about a hundred times, but here's hoping this time I'll do better than the time before. :)

Hi Pryncsa,

Welcome to our merry little band of healthier folks... :yay: :yay:

I too am working on losing over 100 pounds and am looking at it as ten pounds at a time... It is much easier to say 3 down and 7 to go instead of the real numbers.... Good luck and remember that we are here when you need us...:grouphug:

Goof

A Great Big :welcome: to you! Come join the

This is a wonderful group of folks...we all have good days and bad days...and we celebrate each others's good days and support each other on the bad ones. And we laugh like crazy along the way. Great to have you here!

Ok, time to report on the week-end...

Well, as I posted on Sunday morning....I actually ran a 5K on the TM at the gym (blew off church this week... :rolleyes1 )! First time in my life...even when I was skinny I could never run. So that set my day up really well! :goodvibes

Fortunately, we didn't have any real plans for the game (side note...SO psyched that the Giants won! I am a transplanted New Yorker living in the middle of Red Sox and Patriots Nation, so it always feels good to trump over....well, everyone I know! :rotfl2: Ok, no more football talk, I promise!) DH wanted to have a few special treats for the game, so we agreed on sushi (which we both love) and he and the kids baked a cake for dessert.

I planned my food all day and really was careful. Then, I had just one sushi roll at game time. Now, on the one hand this is considered a cheat for me because I am doing South Beach which means that white rice is off the list. On the other hand, sushi is virtually fat free (we ordered carefully...some sushi rolls can be higher in fat) and is still high in protein, so as far as a cheat goes, it is not bad. The real victory was that I limited the amount I would normally have and had a big salad instead. :cool1:

Now...about that cake...DH knows how hard I have been working, so he asked if it would be ok for he and the kids to make one as long as it isn't chocolate (which was thoughtful of him...and he is right...had it been chocolate, I would not have had any strength to resist it). So, I successfully passed on the cake except for one very small bite (my dd, 5, really wanted me to taste the cake that "she" made).

Of course, the REAL test will take place the rest of this week...we now have 3/4 of a cake just sitting there...all pretty in its little cake tupperware. I moved it out of sight and in a part of the house where I never go...so hopefully that will help keep temptation at bay!

Ok...it is MONDAY everyone! Don't worry about whatever may have happened during the week-end! It is a new day, a new week, and we all DESERVE to be happy and healthy! :grouphug:

I just got back from work-out....and I DID IT AGAIN! I ran another 5K on the TM today! Two days in row!

Keep going everyone!

P.S. 10 days till scale day for me...  :scared1:

I think this is the quietest I have ever seen this thread... Where is everyone? *looks around*

I know what you mean about sushi... I love sushi... LOL... I could live only eating sushi... hehe... :lmao: Congrats on not eating the cake... There is a chocolate cake staring me in the face at home but I am not touching it. I looked at the calories and then remembered how good it felt when I went to get my measurements. LOL... it was definately positive reinforcement... :rotfl2: Anywho I hope everyone is well and hopefully the board will be a bit more lively :)

D3K - Congrats on a great weekend... Not only do you run two 5k's in two days, but you showed restraint during tempation... Awesome Job!!! (that scale won't scare you away...)

Munky - things are quiet around here... wonder where everyone is???

Since we are in full disclosure mode... I did not have the best of weekends... It started by my going out to dinner on Friday. I was ok at dinner, but managed to eat not one, but TWO pieces of garlic focaccia... I did not eat any other starches at dinner and had saved my starch from my afternoon snack so in reality, it wasn't too bad, but still... I should have stopped at one...:confused3

Saturday was quiet and basically stayed on plan. Sunday I was all out of whack though.. I ate a small salad and 1/2 of a turkey sandwich at brunch and decided that in preparation for the Super Bowl party that I was going to, I would snack on veggies and a little protein before the game, eat mainly veggies during the game and bring my Jenny Craig dinner with me. It sounded good in theory right... Well - as you may have guessed, all did not go quite as planned. I ended up eating my veggies along with a few chips and a spoonful of dip and a piece of sausage bread. Not nearly as much as I would have normally ate, but not quite on plan either. I ended up only eating some of the tossed salad for dinner, but still felt completely overstuffed afterwards. :guilty:

I have my JC appointment tonight and I'll know then what the damage was. On the plus side, I did get in a two mile walk away the pounds DVD before the game. I attempted the simple stretching w/ yoga poses bonus feature on the tape as well and basically made a fool out of myself because I couldn't stay focused to hold the pose.... What is up with the names of some of these poses? Did you know that if you merely stand up with your feet about hip width apart and line up your feet, hips and shoulders that you are in the "mountain pose"? All this time, I thought I was merely standing up... Give me time - I'll master both the mountain pose and the warrior pose in no time.... no matter how foolish I look doing it...

There is some good news to today though....

First - I start my aqua aerobics class tonight... (I'm sure there will be stories to tell tomorrow)...

and

THE GIANTS WON THE SUPERBOWL!!!!!!

Maybe I worked off my snacking while watching the game.... Does jumping up and down and screaming at the TV count as exercise???? :rotfl2:

Have a good one everyone....
Goof

Goof your weekend could have been much worse so I am proud of you!! :hippie: I avoided the superbowl party my co-worker was having because he makes awesome chili and his wife's cookies are amazing and I knew I would not be able to resist... LOL... DH and I made turkey italian sausage, mashed potatoes and broccoli last night. Whole dinner for me was only like 595 calories and I had 2 sausages. I ate other stuff during the day for breakfast and lunch but neither were near as good... LOL!:rotfl: Continue with the yoga. It may feel goofy and awkward but it does pay off and eventually it will be very relaxing... Good luck with your aqua aerobics tonight!!! :cheer2:

P.S. I am not a huge football fan but I am sooo glad the Giants put the Pats in their place!! Hopefully next year the Broncos will get their act together... LOL!

Munky Me- I'm here and will get caught up on our board. I have done a bit of lurking while I'm catching up

Last week the spanx to the gym- LOL, who's to say the "others" are not doing the same thing. Not an option for me. The spanx push up my belly/gut fat and well it wasn't pretty before. I don't know how I would change out of the thing at the Y. There are mirrors everywhere.

Today I am going to download the CT5K on the nano. I may be hollering for help out there. The Masters in Ed. Tech doesn't always shine through me.

Have a great Monday. Giants #1

*waves* welcome back from the shadows... hehe :cutie:

Hiya, peeps. First of all, Munky, congrats on the smaller measurements - that is awesome!

And Erika, I said this on another thread, but it bears repeating - congrats to you on doing a 5K on the treadmill. I hope I get to that distance at some point in the near future - it seems to be such a long way now, though!

I had a good weekend, I think. Very busy, but happy kind of busy. Didn't get all my water in on Saturday because I wasn't home to focus on drinking it. Made gluten-free onion rings on Saturday night (which were to die for) and ate them with reduced sugar ketchup, but still probably had too many. Oh, well, Sunday I did the W3D3 C25K workout in the morning and then walked 1 1/2 laps around the mall (about 1 1/2 miles) in the afternoon, so maybe I worked most of them off! I weigh in for BL challenge tomorrow morning, so we'll see.

Hope everybody has a great afternoon/evening!

Super weekend reports- So proud of everyone. Dedication, Effort, Trying Healthy Options. Plan you week and work your plan. I had a splurge yesterday. I'll confess later.

The nano has week 1 ready fto CT5K. when it 1st did the sync thing, I had downloaded week 9. What why start with week 9. I now have week 1,2,5, and 9 on nano. I will try for the other weeks later. So I am almost ready. Not yet go for launch. I'm getting there. I'm still sitting, need to get sneakers on and water ready, yes I'm stalling. You all are such motivation.
Yes. I really can hear it. Go for launch.
