In search of my body...not the one I ate!

WAY TO GO on the douple dipping treadmill! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I, too, had a good day yesterday....spent 40 minutes on the treadmill...and 30 of those 40 I was running! (insert vomiting smiley here) I think I would have a much easier time if there were freakin' mirrors everywhere! Ugh---I can just see those rolls bouncing and jiggling....and sheeesh...not a pretty sight. :headache:

My real challenge last night came when one of dearest friends )who moved away a few years ago) called and said she was driving through and did I want to meet her in town for dinner and drinks. Of course, I dearly wanted to see my friend, but I was terrified of what I might do!

So....I DID IT! I went out (which was FABULOUS! We talked and had a great time like only real girlfriends can) and I did not succumb to my favorite drink (black & tan....talk about carbs and calories! :scared1: ) and I ordered a totally yummy salad (my second of the day...at this rate, I'll be ready to work at Universal as Bugs!) and water to drink! It was such a victory for me.

You see, this is the EXACT type of thing that usually derails me. I talk myself right into it..."I've been really good, and I haven't seen my friend in so long and I just have to go out and have fun with her..." (Because, as we all know, fat grams and calories always listen to reason....!) And then after I cheat, it is just a long, downhill slide from there. :sad2: Well, NOT THIS TIME! I am not going down that path again!

So...I went out for both lunch and dinner yesterday and survived BOTH! :cheer2:

Um, ok, it is totally unfair of my scale-phobic self to ask this...but...wasn't it weigh in day? Hmmmm? How'd everyone do? Yes, I absolutely realize that I am a complete and total hypocrite! :lmao: :rotfl2: Demanding to know all of your numbers when I myself hide cowering in the corner in the fetal position because I believe that scale is possessed and will steal my soul...:rolleyes1

Congrats!!!!! Its awesome when you can have such a big accomplishment! :dance3: :dance3:

Hey gang,

I have to apologize for my lack of voice on the board.... I have been swamped at work dealing with a whole bunch of issues and stubborness with some of the contractors and designers I am working with... someday I'll figure out why people get so stuck on an issue that they no longer can see the pig picture.... WHY!!!! :confused3

Oh well - at least all of this stress hasn't sent me completely over the edge with my eating plan yet. I will confess to eating some chocolate over the last few days that I probably shouldn't have, but yeah me for keeping the quanities to one or two kisses a day as opposed to one of two bags... That should get me something right???

Anyways - TGIF is the way I feel right now. I could use a few days away from work and maybe then cooler heads will prevail. Until then, I'll just be sitting here trying to finish all of the work that should have been done in the last two days but didn't because I was trying to get the stubborn folks I work with to come together....

OK - my venting is over - thanks for listening...

angry and frustrated Goof....

somebody please tell a funny story so that when I check in later I can get a good laugh....

Unfortunately I don't have much of a funny story except I was so tired from the gym last my DH and I were coming in from the garage and I grabbed 2 bottles of water for us.... then i dropped them... then I tripped over the box... luckily i didn't fall but he thought it was funny... lol... Happy Friday!!! :dance3:

Hi guys, it's been a busy week here, but I made it into the gym everyday and lost my first pound finally! I varied my routine to break this plateau!

Since Paula needs a laugh and we are talking about chocolate....

If you have melted choclate on your hands, you are eating it too slowly.

Chocolate covered raisins, cherries, orange slices & strawberries all count as fruit, so eat as many as you want

The problem: How to get 2 pounds of chocolate home from the store in a hot car.
The solution: Eat it in the parking lot.

Diet tip: Eat a chocolate bar before each meal. It'll take the edge off your appetite and you'll eat less

A nice box of chocolates can provide your total daily intake of calories in one place. Isn't that handy?

If you can't eat all your chocolate, it will keep in the freezer. But if you can't eat all your chocolate, what's wrong with you?

If calories are an issue, store your chocolate on top of the fridge. Calories are afraid of heights, and they will jump out of the chocolate to protect themselves.

If I eat equal amounts of dark chocolate and white chocolate, is that a balanced diet? Don't they actually counteract each other?

Money talks. Chocolate sings.

Chocolate has many preservatives. Preservatives make you look younger.

Q. Why is there no such organization as Chocoholics Anonymous?
A. Because no one wants to quit.

If not for chocolate, there would be no need for control top pantyhose. An entire garment industry would be devastated

Put "eat chocolate" at the top of your list of things to do today. That way, at least you'll get one thing on your to do list done.

That is just too funny...

A very good question.... I know I still need my chocolate fix from time to time....

3DKids - Thanks for helping to put a smile on my face...

Milestogo - Congrats on breaking through the plateau...

Talk to you all soon
Goof

Excellent...:worship: I wish I could say the same. I went to an Irish restaurant on Wednesday and you would think that I would be forced into the salad since normally there would not be a vegetarian option at an Irish place.:sad2: :sad2: Not so. They had a potato pancake with boat loads of yummy veggies in a tomato based sauce. I ate most of it and topped it off with caramel apple pie al la mode which I did share with DH. Bad, bad, bad...

somebody please tell a funny story so that when I check in later I can get a good laugh....

This is kind of funny: Since it was a holiday, I took DS3 to a public, indoor pool this past Monday. It is a pretty cool place with big slides and little slides and water cannons, etc. You get the picture. We had never been before. Ian loves the pool but for the first 10 minutes or so he is all twitchy about getting his face wet. Of course the first thing he wants to do is go down the little slide. The water is only 2 feet deep so I tell him fine and that I will be at the bottom waiting for him. So I was standing just to the right of the slide and another mom was directly in front of it. Ian comes flying down like he was shot from a gun. Of course, water splashes his face so he is doing the half closed-eye, walk from the bottom of the slide. The next thing I see is my baby grabbing the other mom's sitahs,:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc. He had one in each hand while he wiped his face on her chest. :scared1: :scared1: I was mortified!! Thankfully, she, being a fellow mom, was cool about it and just laughed it off. Little man won't be getting away with that move for too many more years.

OMG, we are living parallel lives! :rotfl2: Are you my twin separated at birth? And if so, which of us is the evil twin? :rotfl:

Seriously, though...I am a couple of years older (38) and had 3 kids in those 3 years you mention, and OH YEAH...does running pregnancies together destroy your bod like nobody's business! And I am also a vegetarian! I am only on week 1 of Couch to 5K, but I am way ahead of the curve, so that makes me feel good. (HEY...we need a "pat on the back smiley"!)

Nice to meet you sis! And like any good sibling, I say you are the evil one..

Too bad you live so far North, we could suffer through the running pogram together. It sounds like you are doing much better than I am. There is no way I could run 30 mins straight. Even if I was being chased by a pack of rabid dogs, I couldn't run that long. I don't think you run 30 mins until the last week of the program so you are WAY ahead of the game. Good for you!! I however, will be amazed if I will even be able to do it then.

OK - That is too funny... :lmao: :rotfl2: Gotta love how when kids do the darndest things, adults can shrug it off so well, but not when they get older....

My day is starting to go a little better. Only 3-1/2 hours until I can go home and forget about this place for a few days... Just remember, I love my job, I love my job, I love my job....

I have some walking to do tonight to get my workout it. My goal was to do my walking tapes at least 4 times this week so I have to walk tonight and again one day over the weekend to meet my goal....

ciao' for now,
Goof - aka a somewhat happier Paula

I had that experience a few years ago...but it was me being wiped on and it was a 95 year old man...cleaning off his dentures!!!:rotfl2:

I say that I hate to run and only would if I was being chased and then not very fast if the chaser was slightly hot...:confused3
:cheer2: :cheer2: YEAH! Going in the right direction! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Ok, Dawn...where are the totals? Me thinks our sistah is hidin' out....

Step away from the chocolate...

No...I did good today and I lost from last week!!! I will try and get totals out but need the help of Grumps with his hi-science techy chart and he is in route to Omaha now from working out of town...so he will weigh in he says and help me post tonight...

I will give a tally in a bit....has everyone PM'd me there totals???? It does save me time and I totally appreciate it...
I think those d@mn Mounties swipped Deb again!!!

I had conferences this morning w/ my youngest...the boy needs motivation and orginazation...so smart... but he just wants to be a Lost Boy and play...
hmmm...why is that so bad....I want to too...
just can't afford to! :rotfl:

He actually has goals...He wants to be on Comedy Central and he probably could...just has to pay the bills until then....
So a slightly twisted funny story...

There is a teacher who does not have Baylor but was influenced by Smart As* son #1 and the fact I possibly...
maybe...
probably...
most definately...
had told her when she had my daughter...that she was a "hideous beast of a woman who deserved to be dissliked by every student and parent she ever had or would have and I thought she was a waste of air for people who had potential...like Charles Manson."
Seriously...I did...she is a witch...
the househit the Wicked Witch of the West and just missed her I swear!!!

My daughter has kidney problems also...severe ones...her bladder is dissformed and huge...she can hold as much urine as a 400 pound man...so she needs to have surgery this year now that her body has matured...but...
in 6th grade...she was having infection after infection and was on doctor orders to pee every hour or as soon as she has the slightest urge.

She kept getting infections and we are at the hospital and we are discussing her bathroom habbits and she starts to cry...saying that she can't go during 2 hours of reading....I say why not...she explains the teacher won't let her...
Now please know I love my kids but I also am realistic and think they have flaws....so I thought she was lying...that no teacher would dissregard school papers medically filled out...plus I had personally talked to each of her teachers. I just assumed Carsyn did not want her bathroom habbits getting publicized and so was afraid to ask to go...

So I called the witch...explaining what Carsyn has said..that I am sure Carsyn feels that way but it was not the case...and guess what...

She said...."No she is right...she has time to go before class and if she doesn't take advantage of it she can wait or have an accident...I am not going to dissrupt my class because she likes to dillydally." :snooty:

So I reached through the phone...punched her square in the nose and felt much better.
Okay I did not...I did explain the medical trauma she faces...that it wasn't her choice to have a birth defect...etc.

She said...it sounds like an excuse....

That is when I said I hoped her cat was the last spawn of satan and killed her in her sleep and then the whole mentioned above Charles Manson part came in...

Carsyn stuck with her for 3 more months...walked out of her class and down to the nurse 3-4 times a week since I told her and the school and the school board I would sue them 6 ways till Sunday if Carsyn went into renal failure because they can't fire incompotent teachers after they have tenure...So I gave her permission to simply walk out of the witch's class anytime the toilet called....

So...the witch doesn't like us much...and Baylor because of Treyner (who is a smart @ss like I said...and Carsyn....)

She told Baylor the first day she would be watching him in the halls because he was not going to get away with anything his brother and sister did.

2nd week of school...Baylor was with Josh...his friend who is expected to be
7' tall. She yelled at Josh for being in the 6th grade hallway and get to the
8th grade hallway where he belongs.

Josh said...I am in 6th grade. She said..."No you are not...do you think I am stupid?"

Baylor said..."Yes if that means you do not believe he is in 6th grade." :rotfl2:
She said..."I am older and smarter than you...I know when I am being lied to...he is not a 6th grader."
Baylor said.."Well than I am glad you are not my teacher because someone as stupid as you can't help anyone else learn if they are not willing to learn themselves." :worship:

Soooo...Dawn gets a call from counselor...counselor is stiffiling giggles as he explains the story...I said...so what is he in trouble for? Counselor states...for talking dissrespectful to a teacher...

He also let's me know that he is not going to punish Baylor...just needed to give me a FYI...I say...why is she not in trouble for dissrespecting her students...he says...I know let's not rehash history....and thus we just left it with a wink...;)

Sooo...Gosh this is a long story.....I saw her today....and she stopped me as I walked by her to say Baylor needed to be quieter in the hallways....
I said..."Yeah I heard.....BTW Charles Manson called and want's his ettiquette book back."

The Art teacher was right next to her...and turned around and put her hand up to her mouth to cover a laugh. :cool1:

I know....add that to a growing list of things I am going to hel for.....But it felt good...even better than CHOCOLATE!!!:scared1:

So sorry I haven't been on this thread for the past week or so. Life has taken over and I just haven't had a spare moment to post - and then when I do, I have 50 eleven dozen pages to read to catch up! But that's great - it's good to see so much participation.

Liz - Thanks for the compliment and for reading part of my journal! I have been referred to as a fighter by others on this board, and I am starting to feel like one now. It is a very positive place to be! And :scared1: at the stroller story! OMG, I would have never had the wherewithal to go after the baby the way you did - I would have been terrified. Very glad everyone was okay.

Born2bird - I am doing the C25K program. I am only on week 2, but so far it is going okay. It is hard, but it is doable. I am sincerely hoping it will help me get fit enough to run the 5K at Disney in May successfully!

Dizneydawn - You seriously need to stay away from water parks, girl! I am having second thoughts about trying out Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon on my May trip, as I had originally planned. I love water slides, but I love my body parts more!! I would really prefer not to lose any of them (not even to lose weight)!! And I LOVED the first installment of your story - MORE, PLEASE!!

As for funny underwear stories, the only thing I can think of is the time I mistakenly grabbed a pair of my stepmother's pantyhose (do pantyhose count as underwear??) out of the suitcase on a trip, thinking they were mine. I was about 13 at the time. The problem? She is a size 0 and I was born larger than a size 0, so the biomechanics just weren't going to work. I walked around all day with the waistband of those hose around my nether regions and the crotch at my knees. It was a strange experience, to say the least. The worst part? She was ticked at me because that was her last pair of hose.

Well, let's see if I can give you guys some background info on me without writing a new version of War and Peace. I have been obese all of my life, having been born prematurely and fed all I could hold for the first few years of my life. My mother died when I was 3, and as I got older, I quickly came to equate food with comfort and love. I tried all the fad diets you can imagine, but none of them worked, and I thought I was destined to be boyfriend-less until someone who had been a friend for many years declared his desire to be more than a friend. And lo and behold, we have been married for almost 24 years now!! I started having health issues when I was about 18, including female hormone imbalance problems, fibromyalgia (which became severe in my late 30's), type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea and neck and back problems. I was diagnosed last year with celiac disease (which took a heck of a long time to figure out), and this is the root cause of almost all my health problems. In particular, the hormone problems, diabetes and severe fibromyalgia are all caused by the celiac. My daughter was also found to have celiac, so she and I have been eating a gluten free diet for several months now. I also stopped eating dairy foods at the first of the year (no more chocolate for me - and yes, I was in mourning for days) because I have been found to have issues with it, also. And I am feeling better in the last couple of weeks than I have felt in years. It is a wonderful gift! Last year at this time, I was so exhausted and in so much pain that I had to take a shower in two parts. I would shower, dry off, lay down to rest, then get up, get dressed and try to go on with my day. Everything I did was a major effort, even things that I love. All I wanted to do was lay in bed and eat! I made myself not do that all the time, but it was terrible to constantly be forcing yourself to do the things that you need (or even really want) to do. Today I am training for a 5K race in Disney. I get up at 5:00 a.m., exercise, work all day and still manage to prepare dinner. I am pretty tired by about 8:00 p.m., but that is a MAJOR victory for me! I am looking forward to continuing to feel better and have more energy as the damage from the celiac reverses itself and I stay with my gluten free, dairy free diet. I am finally able to address the weight issue with a clear head and enough energy to make the exercise stick, so here's hoping this time I win the battle!

Well, I guess that was a long enough post to scare everybody off! I will try to get on here more often if I can so I don't have to type so much at one whack! In the meantime, I am SO enjoying everyone's contributions to this thread. Hope everybody has a great evening!:grouphug:

Checking in and I am down 0.4 pounds. I'm not sure if it will last, though.:guilty: I've discovered vegetable chips, and I haven't been good at portioning the things. BUT I promise to keep moving while I watch t.v. this weekend. And I will not eat any of the chocolate! Tomorrow we have a birthday party for my former BIL's step-child. His new wife is a good cook, but I will try to make good choices. I can skip the cake, since cake doesn't usually tempt me. I think that I will make sure that I have had my water before I go, too.

Gotta scoot, but I'll be back!

Goofyfan-12: My real name is Paula and I live and work in upstate, NY. I am an architect by education and a construction manager by experience and I love my job. I work primarily on large commercial buildings but have done some residential work too. I am not married and have no children yet but who knows what the future will hold. As you can tell from my screen name, I am a fan of Goofy and always have been. Not sure why, but I just love the guy. I had a Goofy watch for as long as I can remember and I actually got a little giddy when I saw the Goofy cartoon on the screen before the latest National Treasure movie. So that is a little about me... Holler if you need anything more.

SeptemberGirl: Liz, 33, married 8.5 years, one daughter, 3.5 years old. Lives in NJ ten minutes from the beach and an hour from NYC. Former full-time book editor in NYC, now a freelance editor and writer. Passionate about music, loves to read (duh!), loves her family and her close friends who are her family, too. Terrific at organizing, bad at asking for help, recovering perfectionist! Doesn't consider herself a Disney addict even though she's been there 3 times in the last year. Tends to the serious side but believes in magic and loves people who make her laugh. Happy to be here. Call me NJLiz if it makes it easier!

Need to lose a lot of weight (191 pounds). Will take all the support I can get, since I have trouble with emotional eating like a lot of us. Hope to be able to contribute something positive on this thread, also.

akasnowwhite:
Real Name: Nancy
Age: (are you supposed to ask????) only kidding - I'm 41 (but I'm told I'm more immature than my teenagers!)
Location: Connecticut
Job: great question. The one I get paid for is cooking/baking PT in the farm kitchen of a local apple orchard.
Married: almost 20 years - and most of those very happily
Kids: 3. DS 16.5, DS almost 15, DD12
Animals: you may be sorry you asked. We have 2 black cats (hmmm...is that bad luck?), roughly 20 chickens and a barn full of goats - with the addition of 3 new babies in the past 2 days I think we are currently at 37...but that number will be skyrocketing as all our girls give birth in the upcoming months
Hobbies: oh - that work that I DON'T get paid for?? Well, my goats for starts. I make goat milk soap, and cheese....I'm a 4H leader (my goats & my children....) and I volunteer a lot with the school drama club - hence the previously mentioned costume making.

I currently don't have a whole lot of weight left to lose. I lost 45 pounds on WW, and recently suffered a bit of a set-back regaining 10 pounds. I want to get that 10 pounds back off. And I need to figure out "why" I have issues with food and even more with self-perception. Because as Jillian said on the BL the other night (paraphrase here)- I can help you take the weight off, but until you deal with the "why" you won't be able to keep it off.

So that's me. In a nutshell. Oh - and I am completely ADD. (ok, maybe not clinically, but....trust me...I am very easily distracted)

Debbie:
Real Name: Can you guess?
Age: Let's same that I am very....experienced.

Married: Oh, yeah. Didn't get married or start my family until I was 30, but we'll celebrate 25 years next year. He is the kindest, gentlest man around.
Kids: five-1 searching for his path (just quit college at Christmas ), 2 at university, and 2 in high school-so still at home. Each is wonderful, but, believe me, they are the cause of every grey hair on my head! My dream would be to have them all find the path that they are destined to be upon and to follow their dreams successfully.
Animals: two very spoiled cats and 1 goldfish
Hobbies: DisneyWorld (of course), reading, television, planning SMARTboard lessons for school, computer, and just vegging.
My current goal is to get back to ONEderland

AKASnowWhite.....are you posting a weight with us yet???? I might have missed it...just making sure....p.m. me and let me know if you want to keep it priivate....:confused3

No, I didn't yet - but I did weigh in this a.m. and lost 1/2 pound. My weight fluctuates so much on a daily baisis it's crazy. I can easily go 2 pounds either way on any given day. I'll PM you with my current weight and goal soon....but first I have to ask a question....

Is the old saying "feed a cold, starve a fever" or "starve a cold, feed a fever", OR (my personal favorite option) "feed a cold, feed a fever" :confused3

I feel like crap. We've had this sinus *thing* going 'round and 'round in our house. I just want to sleep - and eat comfort foods. OH...now I have another question.

<INSERT WARNING HERE> GROSS QUESTION ALERT! How many calories are in the mucus that has been draining down my throat??? I mean - they must amount to something.....(sorry...just had to get that off my chest)

Full disclosure is NOT necessary. Share what you want.

Great "cast list"! :thumbsup2

But jeez! I wrote a whole stinkin' novel! :scared1: I told you I'm easily distracted - but would it surprise you if I said I talk too much? :rolleyes1

going to bed now. :cloud9: Feel like crap (see previous post) :headache: gotta sleep so I don't eat more ice cream and brownies... :sad2:
