In Search of My Body - Not the One I Ate, VOL 7! Princesses? Nope, just us Goddesses!

Paula - glad your Mamala is doing well.

Biggest Loser - OMG I'm so sick of Shay. She doesn't deserve to be there anymore than anyone else. She's so entitled and I can't bear to hear her whine anymore.

I. Bought. Lots. Today. Got most of my girls Christmas done today. Still searching for the elusive Zhu Zhu hampters. I'm just not that dedicated to it. I won't be at Target at 8 am, EVER. I have to get lucky, s'all.

Tired.

Nancy--you are awesome, thanks! And yes, I am mixing my core in as well! I had a GREAT day for both food and exercise, so that is good. It's been a while since I have had both things working.

Lyz--is there any particular one you want? I was at Toys R Us yesterday and they had them. I can try to pick one up and send it to you. What about Amazon?

Paula--WOO HOO on the inch worms. OMG, I hate those! Hate them.

Haven't watched BL yet...don't talk about it! La-la-la I can't hear you....

Thanks everyone for the concern about mom. I am missing her argh now. pirate:

Lyz - I can look here as well if you need me to. Just send the word and I'm on it.

I didn't say anything about tonights episode. Just a Shay rant in general.

EriKa - are you close to TRU? I don't want you to make a special trip. If you are close by, I need a hampster. Any hampster will do. I'm not picky at this point. And some kind of component. Like the plastic ball they run in or the car. On Amazon, everything is jacked up. Like $40 for a $10 hampster. I'm not feeling stressed about it. If I get some I get some. If we don't we don't. I'm sure the week after Christmas it won't be an issue. Kwim?

Paula. Thanks! I'll let you know.

Nancy - I also didn't know what they were till a week ago. Mad asked for them and so I googled. Man are they popular here. Everyone laughed at me today when I asked if they had any.

They are just now catching on here. I guess Webkinz are out and these things are in? I don't know, but my kids don't know what they are either (which is why I can find them, I guess). TRU is about half an hour away. I wouldn't make a special trip or anything, but I will be there on Thursday anyway, so I am happy to look. And I'll be at Target tomorrow so I will check there, too. So they should be in the $10 range? In any case, I will let you know when I am going so you can be by your phone in case I have to call.

And yeah, I hear you on the Shay rant. Ok, the whole thing about her drug addict mom and the way she was raised is awful. Just awful. But she pulled herself through it. I mean, she has a college degree now, is married, 2 kids. It's not like she is living in the projects with no access to information.

There's a very high likelihood that I'll be going to Target tomorrow afternoon. If I go, I'll see what they have.

Good Afternoon Everyone!

I feel much better today, even though Im so bloated

I did manage to avoid the Tin O' Sin yesterday but it wasn't for lack of trying - first of all there was nothing in the tin that I really liked. Then a regular customer came in, a lovely little old lady and she fetched in some home made chocolate chip muffins  Yeah, not so much! I had one when she'd gone, took one bite and had to throw it in the bin - it was so dry and awful! Love her for trying though! So the dieting gods were shining upon me yesterday, who am I to argue with them!

I got an email yesterday about my Florida trip - so excited - just confirming my flight and which hotel we are staying in. By then end of the week I'll have a full itinerary and a name of who Im sharing a room with!

Its date night tonight with DH and we are having a night in! Its not very often that we get a night to have a nice meal, maybe a drink and just relax together so thats tonights plan!

Hope everyone has a great day :upsidedow

At the end of the day, calories "out" must exceed calories "in" to lose weight. How you get those calories is entirely up to you.

This my sweet Nancy was another switch for me. I know there is some darn website that breaks down your lifestyle and the amount of calories you burn for just existing/type of work you do etc. Metabolic Rate something or another...

I am so on about my excersize but I am not on about my food at all. I am 80% of the day but then crash at night and I am starving so I eat like a fiend.

I have not gained anything and not lost either in 2 weeks. Water consumption is up a lot - drank over 80 oz yesterday. I did my reg class on Monday plus the Salsa class (1 1/2 hours total) and then did boot camp plus my reg class yesterday (1 :45 total) and the only issue I was having was my calves were killing me. Figured out I was ruinning/hopping/just about everything on my toes the whole time and have switched up to a flat foot and conciously need to pay attention to that since it is a ton of cardio the whole time

Have my consult with Amy next week for individual workouts with weights out of the water. She was booked for this week and I need her I know. She is definetley more aggresive and I don't want to be babied.

I am in bed by 9 on most nights. Exhausted tired. So sleep is better, water is better, excersize is better, just this darn food.

Today I am going to have some food before I go besides a banana and 2 glasses of water. Masybe that will help me balance more in the night. I also am going to look into some safe snacks so I know what I can grab in a starving moment. Some ideas of filling snacks would be greatly appreciated.

Like the idea of a big salad with some turkey.

We are eating dinner here about 5 - kids are starving, I am starving and at that point I am good for intake. It's about 8 pm I loose my nut.

TOM is heading my way anyday so that may not help but this is ridiculous.

Grocery shopping tonight so any advice is awesome on filling foods!

Paula - glad your mom is on the mend.

Riley went under easily. Now I am just waiting. Whole thing should only take an hour then half an hour in recovery then home.

Dawn--it is called your resting metabolic rate and there are tons of websites that will help you calculate it. But realize that anything you get on the web is not going to be super accurate. In order to really get you RMR you need to get hooked up to probes and all of that sort of thing. Still you might at least get the ballpark from the web.

Good Morning...

Hope everyone is enjoying this fine Veteran's Day (thanks guys and gals for doing all that you do). I am at work and it is unbelievably slow today. The State is closed for the day, but we are here since we have contractors working on site. At least I am not alone in the big spooky building so that is a good thing.

Multi state efforts for Christmas gifts is a common practice for me. You should have seen my college girlfriends and I going nuts trying to find the right pack and play for one of our friend's baby shower. We had covered five states by the time we found it. Never underestimate the power of a woman on a mission. Bring it on is all I can say. :rotfl:

Dawn - sounds like you need to work out a bit of a food plan to support the exercise you are doing. Nancy remembers when I went through that phase and was eating everything in sight. Your body needs fuel to support all that you are asking it to do. It needs protein, some complex carbs and even a little healthy fat to keep you going. I don't think you are doing WW anymore, but go back to those materials and read up as there is good info there. I am at the point now where I eat 5 - 6 times a day (3 meals and 2 - 3 snacks). Meals are around 350 - 400 calories each and comprise of protein, carbs and fruits or veggies. Snacks are usually a piece of fruit, my JC protein bar (apprx. 100 calories) or sometimes it is something starchy depending on my mood. When I get home from weight lifting, I eat some greek yogurt to get some protein in my system. Fat free chocolate milk is my recovery drink after a cardio workout. Educate yourself and with a little planning, you'll figure it out. Knowlege is truly power here. That and remember food = fuel.

Kelly - have fun tonight on your date with DH. Can't wait for the full itinerary for the big Florida trip. Congrats on not devouring the tin o sin. Huge accomplishment - HUGE!

OK - back to work for me. Buying myself the Nike + ipod thingy tonight to help with my 1/2 marathon training. I don't trust the treadmills at the gym anymore and really need to start working outside so I can deal with the mental aspects of this event. I won't have a TV strapped to my shoulders to entertain me for this walk so I can't depend on it to get through my training walks either right?

Catch you all later...

Dawn - I have some ideas for you - but I have to be at work early today - so I'll make a proper post later today.

Dawn, make sure you're getting protein. I've been eating salads for lunch for ages. I found myself foraging for snacks at 2:00 in the afternoon. There is NO WAY I am actually hungry. I want/need something. I finally figured out it was protein. My salads rarely had any meat or cheese - the salad bar had breaded chicken - pass. I read something recently that made me rethink volume versus nutrition. I started having a sandwich or soup (I like to add veggies to the light Progresso soups). It makes a huge difference in my afternoon cravings. Once I get home I am ON, totally ON. Things to do. Meals to cook. ON. I just had to get through the afternoon.

There have been a lot of articles in the NYTimes lately about running - one of the columnists was training for the marathon. I found some of the math to be brutal... running for an hour, plodding as I do, burns less than 500 calories. Less than 500. The reality for me is that I only lose weight when I watch my food very carefully. I feel great exercising. I'm building reserves and extending my life. But exercise alone will not make me lose weight. Damn. And the sense of cookie entitlement that comes from a run is blinding.

I find apples really satisfying. There's some work involved - slicing, coring, but good.

I'm going to make a batch of this veggie dip.

Kelly - I hate it when I succomb and the forbidden treat is bad.

Paula - how's the couch?

AFM, I've been running and biking. DGF has today off (Veteran's Day) and gave me a sleepy send off this morning. I'm doing a Thanksgiving 10k on Saturday.

Ronda

Hey all! Children are with me today. Good times.

There's a very high likelihood that I'll be going to Target tomorrow afternoon. If I go, I'll see what they have.

Ha! I love the Multi-State effort to get Mad a zhu zhu! Hi Lar Ious.

LOVE IT!!!! Thanks guys!

Yay for throwing it away.

SO exciting. What hotel?

Dawn, good advice from the others. You know, I'm just so proud of you for keeping up with the exercise. Changing your life is exhausting!

Ohh, I like The Pampered Chef apple slicer/corer. I use it for pears too. Makes eating apples so much more appealing.

Just checking in. Riley is in recovery and is fine. He;s a bit goofy from the anesthesia but is in good spirits. He'll be happy once we are home.

YES on the protein, This is huge. Dawn, based on the times you have posted your food, I know you aren't getting your protein. And your carbs and fats are both too high. My main trick for getting my protein is Whey Protein powder. You can buy it anywhere--Target, Wal-Mart, CVS, etc. I put it on my oatmeal or in anything like that where I can sneak it in. 1 scoop is zero grams of fat, zero carbs, and a whopping 26 grams of protein, and only 100 calories. Makes all the difference in the world.

Ronda--woo hoo on the upcoming race! And I so agree with everything you said. GREAT post. For runners and walkers alike, you can figure on burning 100 calories per mile. It just means that fast runners are going to be more efficient at burning calories than are slower runners and walkers. When Jeff runs 5 miles, he burns 500 cals in 37 minutes. For me, it takes 53 minutes to burn those same 500 calories. And if you are a slow walker, it might take 90 minutes to burn the 500 calories.

Thanks all, it did feel like a HUGE accomplishment when I threw the muffin away and didn't replace it with something else!
Ronda - theres nothing worse than building yourself up for a treat and its not worth it! The Veggie dip recipe you posted looks great :thumbsup2

SO exciting. What hotel?

The Hard Rock Hotel for 4 nights! :cool1:

Just checking in. Riley is in recovery and is fine. He;s a bit goofy from the anesthesia but is in good spirits. He'll be happy once we are home.

:cool1: So glad to hear hes doing ok!

Its the same with me and DH - on the treadmills we use you can check the calories burned and he can burn 500 calories so much quicker than I can, around 20mins quicker.

Ronda - I had the same thing with salads. I was eating huge filling salads but there was always *something* missing. I started to put a little bit of low fat cheese or some grilled chicken or diced turkey and that helped me through the afternoon.
