In Search of My Body - Not the One I Ate... Vol. 6: Goddesses just want to have fun

Steph - I'm glad to hear you are done with the fake-n-bake.

Yes, oncologist wasn't pleased! Wanted to know if he should call the plastic surgeon to take the skin cancers off now or later! :lmao: he is so funny! he actually thought I had just come back from WDW!

Hey all. Back safe and sound. Tired, dehydrated and a case of heat stroke but yeah, I finished.

The day ended up being 87 degrees. One poor man died after finishing the half. People were dropping like flies from heat stroke. At mile 22, I nearly passed out. I told my partner to keep going and I found some shade. I lay there for at least 15 minutes trying to talk myself into finishing. After I felt cooled down and had regained brain function, I ran the last 4.2 miles to finish. I slowed a lot to check on many people who were not looking good anymore. Really none of us was at that point. The heat was brutal and there was a 15-20 mph wind that was in your face a lot. The hills were definitely not the enemy on Saturday! I am proud of myself for getting back up and finishing the whole 26.2. Would I do it again..... yeah I would. My family has nixed all fulls in the future though. They were way too worried about me when I was not showing up and then they saw my running partner cross without me.

Thank you for all your support and love through this ordeal. I truly appreciate each and every one of you. I am officially in marathon retirement for the time being. Mike nixed the VAB and all other trips this year though due to economy worry. He ruined the first 2 days of vacation with his poor mood and honestly, I don't have much interest in traveling anymore anyway. Too much PIA for me. I am going to start working on quickening my short races and toning up some more. I just weighed myself after eating dinner and I currently weigh 1 pound more than I did when I left. Can you say dehydrated still??????? :scared1:

Lisa GREAT GREAT JOB! Very proud of you!!!

Funny story....

So today in Maine it was supposed to get to the upper 70s! (That is mid-summer temps for us.) So Jeff and I decided to put the dock in at the camp. At this point, it was about 65*. Pleasant.

So we heaved and shoved and got the dock in (it is 3 peices). We get all three pieces in the water and then have to bolt them together with these really huge, thick steel bolts. Riley is on shore holding the ropes so we don't go floating down the lake on an un-tethered dock.

All of a sudden...ker-plunk. Jeff drops one of the nuts into the water. Crap. You have to imagine me on my belly holding two halves of the dock together as Jeff is supposed to be bolting them together.

At this point, there is no choice. One of us is going to have to go in after the nut. Now keep in mind, we just had ice out 2 weeks ago. That means that the water temps are really just above freezing. Like 40*. :scared1:

AHH jumping in the freezing water... maybe you should talk to Sam about this she has been in the river not once but TWICE already!!! Once to get a ball because it would have been the THRID ball to go downstream and the the SECOND time was JUST BECAUSE! :confused3
I was wearing running shorts and running t and crocs. He was in jeans. Guess which one of us had to go in to fuh-reezing water??? OMFG it was SO COLD! And I had to DIVE down, full submerged, to find that f-ing thing! All I could think of was LIZ! (Do you know how she HATES to be cold???) After THREE separate times in (cause I could only stay in for half a minute), I gave up and went to the hardware store to buy a new nut.

On the way back, I stopped at Dunkin Donuts for a hot chocolate. Mind you, I was still in my wet clothes. Since they are running clothes, they dry super fast (don't absorb any water), but I was still damp. And it was NOT mid-70s. It was mid-60s with NO sun. Cloudy. And the dippy little gum-snapping teen with pink hair gives me ATTITUDE. "Really? You want hot chocolate? It's like the warmest day of the year!"

Listen, wench, while it MAY be warm out, the lake in which I was just submerged is 40 f-ing degrees! And I am wet! And do you give people grief who come in and order COFFEE??? Which is also a hot beverage???

End of story.
Oh would have SLAPPED HER! I hate When I get attitude from sales HELP! I got it the other night at the corner store and I promptly went back in the AM and turned her in. HMMMM haven't seen her there either since!

Is it a Mainer thing to dive into slightly above freezing water when you could just go to the store?

Yankee thriftiness or something?

And, is it wrong to laugh? Because while you could have gotten hypothermia, it's pretty funny.

Me? I'd go to the store. But I'd also never have made it as a frontier woman, colonialist, or fulltime Mainer. ;) Heck, I can't even run a full 5k!
Liz I am the same way I hate the cold! But I see her point of the half hour drive while they held the docks together! But I would have just driven extra fast!

One more.

This one cracked me up. It was SO friggin' hot - and the whole cake just wanted to slide. She has waaaay more patience than I do, that's for sure.

IMG_1581.jpg

WOW that girl has some talent! Me I have NO PATIENTS for that!

SO today was kinda a bomb for me went to bed really late and woke up on the wrong side of the bed, crabbed at everyone! Had to make a dessert or dish for skating banquet! I made chocolate chip cookie dough truffles. Went to work and it was slow but it was nice everyone who works this weekend shift gets along... not like my weekend shift where all they do is send piercing glances at each other. I shared some truffles with them. Went food shopping at the "unnamed store" I am now caught up! Now off to bed!
Oh Liz and Kat GREAT JOB!

Good Morning Everyone! :rotfl:

LisaPR - CONGRATULATIONS - You rock, you know that! Sorry about your hubby

Liz/Kat - Ive said it once, I'll say it again - CONGRATULATIONS! I hope you had fun at your after party!

Nancy - Those cakes look so good! Your girl has so much patience!

Erika - Great pictures, cant believe you went into cold water! I would have slapped pink hair girl. :cool2:

Paula - Your photos are fab too. Sounds like a wonderful weekend!

Well Im at work so I suppose I better get something done! :upsidedow

Thanks everyone! :grouphug:

Erika, if it makes you feel any better, I would have gone after the bolt too. Something about all that time driving back and forth and facing frigid waters makes it more of a non-choice than a choice. I want to get this done now takes over!! :lmao:

Liz/Kat, how was your race???

Nancy, love the cake pics. You certainly are multi talented. And the .2 was not so bad for me, it was the first 22 that were the killers!! After the rest break, I was ready to go!! The unfortunate part of this race too was that each mile marker got farther from my Garmin miles and at the end of the race we were .25 over what the Garmin was saying. That is a full quarter mile people. Whose idea was that??? The half course was apparently the same way.

Paula, great TR. Love the pics!

Oh man, my mind went blank again. Apparently I have some burn holes left that came from the outside in, not the normal way!!!! My head is still burnt if that counts. Or maybe fried is a better term. :upsidedow

Challenge: Down 3 pounds totally. I am down another pound but hoping it is just dehydration still. I have a feeling I will get that back soon enough! I guess I don't have to give you overall miles for last week seeing as 26.2 is pretty close to my total!! I hope everyone hit their goals this time!

Today holds some gym time for me. Part of me wants to run and part of me does not. Good versus evil you know. I believe that the training plan I used was a great one and allowed for me to be able to feel this way. I am still a little sore from the race but not any moreso than I would have been from a half. IF I can go to VAB, heat and all, I am shooting for under 2 hours for the half. Anyone who hears of a great deal on air for Delta, US Air, Southwest or United into Norfolk, let me know. I cannot put Ding on this computer and it is useless to put it on my home one as it is hardly ever on.

Have a super great day everyone and thanks again for being there. If anyone rocks, it is all of you!!!

Good Morning! Long time no see...last week my coworker asked that I return a book she had borrowed from my daughter. So I brought it home and laid it on the end table for Jen to pick up when she came over. Well, it kept tempting me, so I picked it up and have been in a Twilight haze for the past week. I've read books 1,2 & 3 and will get 4 from her today. So I hope you will understand.

Challenge: I haven't posted for the past 3, so here goes. +2, -3.4 , -6.2. Don't know what is exactly happening, just drinking my water and counting points. Some exercise, but not as much as I would like. I want to want to exercise, but it is still something that I have to force myself to do. Someone here said "Chaotic action is better than organized inaction" and that made sense to me so that is the plan that I have been following.

Congrats to everyone on their races! I am in such awe of what you do. :worship:

:

OOOO someone else hooked on The KOOL aid! Yes someone left breaking dawn in the lab last night and I picked it up several times just to skip through and read pieces of it! I let a friend borrow it and she was hooked! Made her husband buy her book 2 and 3 on the way home the other night.
Well today is an easy day it's PJ day @ school boys got up and brushed teeth and they are ready for school!
It's supposed to be 80 today so I will be OUTSIDE! Have a great day I will check in through out the day!

Your friends with Faith Hill & Tim McGraw !

Close!

Actually, he is a song writer....he's written stuff for artists like Faith Hill, Rascal Flatts, Josh Groban...

So going in the water. It had nothing to do with saving the 50 cents. It was about time. And the fact that if I took half an hour to go to the store, it meant that Jeff would have to sit there holding the dock together and Riley would have to stand there holding the ropes, etc. Just a mess all the way around. So it just made more sense to go in.

Yeah, I get that. But still. 40* is about HALF of what I want my water temp to be :rolleyes1

Nancy, love the cake pics. You certainly are multi talented.

I can't take credit for the cakes, Lisa. That's my daughters handiwork!

Now that's just CRUEL. :scared1:

I'd vote that you rest and rehydrate. You've pushed your body extremely hard. Give it a break today.

And for those of you who may be wondering, yes I DID rest my body for the last 10 days. TEN DAYS. I walked a lot on vacation, and I did four 30-minute elliptical sessions. That's it. My leg/hip/groin has been feeling much better. My jeans however... :rolleyes1

Oh jeez. Not another Twilight-a-holic ;)

Good job on the challenge stuff Sunny - whatever you are doing, it seems to be working!

PAULA - your trip sounds amazing. Loved the pictures.

Headed out for a bike ride in a few here - have to wait until the school buses are done and all the commuters have gone off to work...

Things I'm loving...

Steph's use of "unnamed store".

Lisa PR's willingness to jump into the water. Oh, you Mainers! Me? Not surviving any of those colonial ocean crossings. :lmao:

Sunny's a TwiHard! YES!!! We will take over the world! Bwahahahahahahahahaha!!!

Tired today. Kat is still asleep, I am getting stuff ready for the day. Off to bring the kids to school!

Race report later, and pictures. This afternoon looks good for that!

Morning! Busy, busy, busy day and week for me. Last week of the semester! :cool1: I give my first final exams tonight and my last one week from tonight. So my life for the next week will be nothing but grading. And NOT packing. Maybe I'll make a packing LIST. But that's about it as for as trip prep will go. 10 freaking days and I am so unprepared! It makes it hard to get excited.

Good Morning,

Erika, I have a lessons learned for you for next year... Have extra bolts, nuts and washers on hand in case you drop one. This way, there is no polar bear plunging and no trip to the store. Good luck with the final exams and the grading. I have faith that you will get all of the packing done in time.

Liz - Enjoy the day with Kat!!!

Sunny - whoo hoo on the loss. Chaos is definitly better than nothing when present in small doses.

Lyz - sounds like you had a nice relaxing day yesterday. You need those from time to time.

Nancy - enjoy your bike ride. I am jealous... My ride will be inside the gym tonight and it is way too nice outside for that.

Kat - safe travels home...

LisaPR - get some rest, you deserve it right now..

Steph - so glad you have given up on the fake and bake... the tan in a bottle stuff is just as good and way safer...

Off to a meeting, I'll catch up with you all later...

I know, Paula. :lmao: When I went to the hardware store, I bought SIX of them! :rotfl2:

Thanks everyone!!

I was honestly just happy to finish the race. The first mile was really brutal. I can sort of see the adrenaline rush thing, though, because it did get easier as I went along. Liz put the thread playlist on the mp3 player for me, and Erika the runner's song actually pushed me to run more, at one point.

Party was really fun! I was super tired and probably drank too much for how tired I was, though. Thankfully Nick and Liz put up with my drunking rooting for my team.

Paula, loved the pics of the Vineyard. I have never been, it looks like a must do!

Nancy, on the Seth situation.

LisaPR, I am so proud of you for finishing!! 26.2, so impressive! I was barely able to wog 3.1. The heat really was a killer, wasn't it? It was in the 80s here too and I think both of us would have done better if it had been more like in the low 70s.

E, still think the drive is better than the water. Just sayin'.

Lyz, Kelly, Amy, Amiee, Sunny, Steph, LisaV,.

Off to get pedicures and have lunch! Hope everyone has a great day!

LISAPR-I've read that any weaving you do on the course and how you run any curves or turns can add up over the whole distance of the race. This happened to me on all my half's. And I know the one in March was certified and could be used for BQ, and my Garmin said like 13.3 or something like that.

PAULA-LOVED the TR. So pretty there.

NANCY- Can I hire Becca for a few days to make Delena's birthday cake??? Those are awesome!

SUNNY-WTG on the loss!

For me I am DOWN to 182!!! So, I am in good shape to make my sub 180 goal, especially now that TOM has passed. Lots of minutes to add to my total too. Will do that later.

Have a good one!

This was our first race. The word still seems out of place. We started with C25K in late January with this day in mind. It’s the Trolley Run (www.trolleyrun.org). We stashed a car near the finish Saturday afternoon. Sunday morning we walked to the start. The weather was perfect. It had rained a little the night before. The day was overcast and we had a tailwind the whole way. There were a couple of dips and rises, but overall the course loses about 100 feet start to finish. Easy peasy for first timers.

We ran the entire way. Our pace was a glacial 14:35, but we ran the entire way. The course is four miles and when we were done Sue’s footpod distance was 3.97. We’re happy with that. We kept an eye on our pace – slow - and kept our heart rates in the 160s. I’m getting better at doing the pace by feel, but in the excitement of the day it was a good reminder.

We saw some friends on the route – they came down to cheer us on. They came down to the finish as well. I found some friends from work, too. Their children were going to run in the kids race. Later when we got home, another couple had left a small congratulations sign in our dirveway. It was unsigned, but the bamboo skewer uprights were a dead giveaway.

It was a great experience. DGF is a little sore in her knees, but I’m feeling no ill effects – yet. We rested a bit and then went out to finish a landscape project that started Saturday. The support of the spectators was wonderful and MATTERED.

Now I need to just keep running (I think of Dory – just keep swimming, swimming, swimming).

Ronda

Back from my first bike ride of the season. :yay: I so love to be outside. It was a perfect morning. Sunny, not cold, not yet hot.

My bummocks are going to be just a bit *aware* tonight :rotfl2:

Pedicures! :cheer2: Have a great time Kat & Liz!!!

Exams. Ick. Good luck with that, Erika!

Gotta get to the post office. Lyz - my flies might be here today :thumbsup2

Oh No PAULA I haven't given up the Fake & Baking..... Just my package is done and it is now PROM season and her prices go UP UP AND UP! I think February is the only time that I will ever go. Two months for $60. Right now it's a month for $50.

Liz & KAT can't wait to see pics!

GOOD!

I know, Paula. :lmao: When I went to the hardware store, I bought SIX of them! :rotfl2:

Whew, I am relieved. I wondered if you went ahead and bolted the others "just in case".

This was our first race.

The support of the spectators was wonderful and MATTERED.

SO impressive. WOW. Great report.

Gotta get to the post office. Lyz - my flies might be here today :thumbsup2

Hmmm, didn't realize I had to pick them up. They will be here this week. The heat this weekend brought those buggers out.

STEPH - they are tiny predator flies Nancy and I ordered. For our livestock situations. They eat fly larve so you don't have barn flies, house flies, annoying flies by the hundreds all up in your business. Please Lord, this has to work. I can't stand those flies!

LYZ~ Im getting the pool ready you coming for a DIP! You can even bring Joe & Steve.

I am SO jealous! Amykab! You too. I want a POOL. Like nobodys business. Alas, I have no money. My money needs money! The pool is number one on my list, number 4 on Bob's list. Bah!

All Windows in the house are OPEN! THe wind chimes are chiming...The Birds are Chirping.... The sun is shining! I have been out playing soccer with Mocha and doing Wash... Only wish I had a clothes line now to hang it on.
Ok heading back...... OUTSIDE!

Wow Steph. "oh what a beautiful morning, oh what a beautiful day".

We have that here. Mol went outside this morning and it was a little warm, but crisp. She said, "makes me feel like I'm at WDW at a bus stop". And you know what, that is exactly what it feels like!
