In Search of My Body - Not the One I Ate... Vol. 6: Goddesses just want to have fun

I weighed in at 181 this morning!!!:cool1: so just over a pound until I make my May 8th goal!

Nice job, Amy! :dance3:

I think my response was that, as a grown woman, perhaps she shouldn't *make* those 'little comments'.

That's exactly what I was thinking too.

Well, I did it, I bought a bike. I pick it up on Saturday.

Paula that's so exciting! I just love that the saddle description says "keeps a sensitive area fatigue free" Yeah. TMI I'm sure, but when I got on my bike this morning, I was instantly made very aware that my first ride of the season was only 2 days ago - and it was a long one

Ok, ok. I could go on and on. I'll wait. But not patiently. :rotfl2:

:rotfl2: Aren't you supposed to be concentrating on your exams and grades? Oh and that little thing we like to call vacation?

There was something else I wanted to say. But I've forgotten it already. :rolleyes1

Nancy! That is C.R.A.Z.Y. OMG, elementary kids get stomach bugs all the time. You cannot close an entire school because of it. And your district in particular. You are already going until July as it is! (Seems like it, eh?)

We have been getting those automated ones as well. And lucky me, I get them from not only the school district but the University as well. Yesterday's update was that all is well, no reported cases of swine flu in Maine. Business as usual, no one panic. Today's was different. There are now TWO confirmed cases in the STATE and we have been moved to Alert Level 5 or some such crap. It is all more than I can deal with. If the country gets so panicky over this that I can't travel next week, I am going to EXPLODE.

OMFG OMFG OMFG!

NANCY!

You totally JINXED the HELL out of me!

This just out...MY KIDS' SCHOOL IS CLOSED FOR SEVEN DAYS!!!

AUGUSTA (NEWS CENTER) -- Governor Baldacci announced that a school and day care center in York County are to be closed due to the H1N1 flu.

Kennebunk Elementary School and the Crayon Academy day care center in Arundel will both be closed for seven calendar days. According to the Governor's office, two students at the schools have symptoms consistent with H1N1 and live in a household with a person identified with H1N1 infection.

Parents with children at Kennebunk Elementary School and Crayon Academy are advised to keep them at home. If children show symptoms such as fever and respiratory symptoms, parents should bring them to their doctor to be examined.

3 cases. 1 parent and 2 kids (all the same family). Frantically trying to figure out what family, but the current rumor is that it is a kid in Cammie's class. F***!

So, school is closed until next Thursday. And of course, that is the day we leave./ So TWO WEEKS of missed school. !*!*!*! WT F am I going to DO? And I have SO MUCH to get done. And now I will have kids home. Ok, starting to hyperventhilate....

Nancy-- OMG on the swine flu hysteria!! closing a school for ONE kid. Wow.

Paula--Love the bike! There is a Trek bike store that just recently opened here. We have been going back and forth on bikes forever. We want them, but I don't know if I want to get them now when it is going to get so freaking hot here.

Erika-- Eating Plan?? :lmao: I pretty much made some little changes based on my tracking journal from the last challenge. More protein and more spread out over the day. I really wasn't getting any in the morning. A bit more fiber as well and making some smarter carb choices. We've also cut out all red meat for the last month and replaced it with some fish and ground turkey breast in dishes where we use ground beef. I also realized I was eating a lot of Delena's leftovers, which depending on what she's eating could add up over the course of the day. And totally keeping on top of my water intake. It seems to have made the difference for more consistent weight loss for now. I am running less, but replacing it with other things, so the change there might help too. I NEED to get back to running a bit more though. 5k on june 12th that is super flat so it will be a good chance to take some time off my PR.

Kat--I went to tons of canes games when I lived in Raleigh. lots of free and reduced tickets from Duke. So I bought a jersey to wear to the games.

Erika--OMFG On the school being closed. Crazy!!

Seriously, what was it like 2 minutes after Nancy posted it that you got the news??

Trek Bikes WSD - Women Specific Design. Shorter top tube and, probably, down tube. The shorter wheelbase reduces stability somewhat, but for fitness and path it's not a problem.

I've had a couple of Treks. They are like the Honda of bikes, IMO. Solid. You can find cheaper or more expensive, but they are in a sweet spot.

Hey everybody!

I'm illing, so not really doing much of anything right now. I hate being sick. Broke down and called the doc even. Decent meds now.

Hope everybody is doing well.

Here is the info on the bike….

Ronda - thanks for typing that so I didn't have too... :rotfl: It is god info and I am not planning on doing any mountain biking anytime soon. That just sounds like a direct route to the emergency room to me...

Erika - basically, what Ronda said. My fitting is on Saturday. I have been reading up on the bike (I already have the manual, etc) so I can ask my specific fit questions when I get there. I will likely stick with this saddle for now and see how it goes and upgrade from there. I am not ready for clips yet so no need to rush into that yet. I still need to get a helmut and a pair of riding gloves. The helmut is a necessity and the gloves are creature comforts.

The bike shop I went to is long regarded as one of the best in the area. Of the bikes he showed me, this is the one I liked the best for the price range I was willing to work within. The first bike he pulled out was this cruiser and while it would have worked, it was not a fitness bike and that is what I wanted to grow into. Also, I was shocked when the difference in price between the cruiser and this bike was like $80. Why buy a bike that you know you are going to outgrow? I did remember that this was similar to what you had and you had raved about it. So when I was trying to decide between this one and a Giant that he was showing me, this one just felt better. I have 30 days to try it out and can flat out return it if I don't like it. I also get one year's free service on it so I know it will be taken care of. They also offer free bike repair clinics that I need to find the time to take. I have been researching cycling groups as well, but want to get comfortable with this bike before I join anything (remember, I am about a month behind my schedule for this so I need to make up some ground).

This just out...MY KIDS' SCHOOL IS CLOSED FOR SEVEN DAYS!!!

:scared1::scared1: Holy Crapolie.

They closed one of our secondary schools (gr 3-6) because the kid is sick, Dr. confirmed it's "a flu-like virus" AND the family just returned from a trip to Cancun over April break last week.

Nate was telling us that one of the kids in HS is "rumoured" to have "flu-like illness" and they just came back from Cancun. The family he was talking of does indeed have a kid at the Secondary school that's closed. Yippee. They are expecting further test results and will decide whether to close the whole district down once those results are in.

Nancy-- OMG on the swine flu hysteria!! closing a school for ONE kid. Wow.

I know! And I am SUCH a mean mother. The kids wanted to know what swine flu "does" to you. I told them it makes you oink and smell like bacon. They didn't seem to think it was as funny as I did :confused3

Really though - my kids all ended up with a bit of seasonal allergy sensitivies. So, we return from San Antonio to full-blown New England tree pollen. They now have itchy eyes & throats and the world is in a tizzy over Swine Flu. <sigh>

Erika-- Eating Plan?? :lmao: I pretty much made some little changes based on my tracking journal from the last challenge.

That's so awesome Amy! Love to hear how other people are workin' their plan!

I am blaming Nancy for this fiasco.

I totally blame me too! Power of suggestion and all...:sad2:

I feel so badly for you right now. Exams. Grades. Vacation - yes or no?

the only GOOD thing for you is that no one is going to be in school next week so it's not like your kids would miss 2 weeks of classroom instruction....but sheesh - they JUST had April break. Now to have 2 weeks off ? That's a lot.

Now, for the swine flu hysteria that is going on out there...

Those of you who's children's school districts are closing have my sympathy. I'm sure the schools are trying to do what is in the best interest of the kids' safety, but why does it feel like they are pandering to the public hysteria? Maybe I am missing something, but this is kind of like the SARS craze from a few years back.

Ugh...

Stay healthy everyone and wash those hands early and often...

Amiee - feel better soon...

The road bike I am buying is a Giant. Probably early June is when I will get that one.

Can't wait to hear about the road bike once you get it...

Ronda- love the bike talk :thumbsup2

Amiee - so sorry to hear you are not feeling well.

Kat - you too. Feeling any better?

Paula - YES. SARS. That's exactly what I was thinking of.

OMG. :lmao: My son just emerged from the basement with his "accessory" for school tomorrow. Yep. He's got on one of those dust masks - and OSHA rated one no less. Oy. Where the kid gets his irreverance for potentially serious situations is beyond me :rolleyes1

E ~ School closed for 7 days? ***! Nancy! OMG, your kiddos have to be in school. You sanity can't take many more days off.

Right, that's my issue. We just had a long vacation, now they are getting this week off, and then we are going on our family vacation next week. That is 15 days of school off. FIFTEEN.

As of right now, it is only the K-3 school, but I expect that by morning they will have closed the rest. I mean, they all ride the same buses. Petri dishes on wheels. Plus, every parent I have talked to tonight (and my phone has been ringing off the hook) says that they are keeping their other kids home too. So now I am not sure what to do about Riley. Rumor has it that so many parents are going to keep their older kids home that those schools will close anyway due to lack of attendance. :confused3

The road bike I am buying is a Giant. Probably early June is when I will get that one.

Which one did you decide on?

I was scared.to.death. the first time I got on my road bike. Going from a mountain bike to one with those teeny tiny tires? YIKES. But I love, love, love my bike.

(now Queen's Bicycle Race is playing in my head )
