In Search of My Body....Not the One I ATE! Vol. 5: Goddesses are Always on Top!

How much water did your trainer recommend?

A freakin' GALLON. :scared1: I probably did drink about 3 qts yesterday. When we meet again Tuesday, I need to let her know how things are going.

Oh and don't even get me started on taking the point away after you hit 38. Um, that means I lose a point in September people. That is so not fair!!!!

I have issues with that. Really.

So what makes me *different* from 37 and 364 days old to 38 years old? Don't tell me my metabolism slows as I age. That statement in a vacuum is B.S., IMO. What about my overall strength, conditioning and workout schedule? Those really need to be taken into account. A 45 year old woman with a ton of muscle mass may very well burn more calories per day than a 30 year old man of flab.

I love, love, love the WW plan. I do. But there is so much that needs to be personalized and *tweaked* for each person to be successful

I make a decaf and regular because I read a theory that the decaf process removes some of the antioxidants from tea, but mainly because too much of the decaf gives me a huge headache. :thumbsup2

How is the decaf process done? Am I wrong in thinking that it's basically using chemicals to leach out the caffeine? I thought it involved fromaldehyde (totally butchered that spelling). I'm going to google it.

I probably drink a gallon of tea a day. Where's the loo? :lmao:

That was basically one of the issues that my trainer pointed out to me. My tea intake. Caffeine and I don't get along really well. And she feels that I was being counter-productive with the tea. So, I'm trying the "all water" plan for a week to see what happens.

Nancy did you get fat/muscle tested? Did I miss it?

No, not yet. Her new callipers haven't yet arrived :confused3 I've been in touch with my former trainer from my old gym - I'm going to ask her if we can get together to do it if it doesn't happen soon.

Me too. Wendy's when they pulled their advertising when Ellen came out. Years and years I've done it. Probably over ten now, eh? Times have changed so quickly. And I adore Wendy's potatoes. Mmmmm mmmm.

But they are with Tim Horton's now so have avoided them but not THs. So doesn't quite make sense.

Wendy hooked up with Tim? :confused3 Who knew :lmao:

Everyone pay homage to Liz :worship: :lmao:

ummm. Ok. :worship: :worship: I have no idea what you guys are talking about though:laughing:

I found out that the cause for my stomach pains are hemoraging cysts on my right ovary.

Well, that explains a LOT. Glad you finally got it figured out. Now you can get it dealt with so you can move on. :thumbsup2

Nick. Gets. 37. Points. Here I am, hungry and wanting more and he has like 15 points to kill and I have NONE. Makes me crazy. CRAZY.

Ask him if you can borrow some

Nancy - He offered to lend me some!!! :lmao: As I was bitterly complaining. Bitterly.

I think the point drop is, as Lisa PR suggested, due to TOM and not just metabolism. But I'll ask at my meeting. They do constantly tweak things, and not to sound like a leader, but things do change all the time. ;)

Good Morning. Been a little off track for about a week. My daughter works at Walmart's home office and things have been a little stressful with all of the lay offs. She didn't lose her job, but the tension is getting to her and she is getting to me. I've didn't track last week and gained .4 pounds this week.

But on a positive note, I didn't talk myself out of going to WW. I almost didn't go because I knew I had gained, but I went.

So for the challenge:
WW yes
Track not so much
Water most of it

I have been reading, and it really helps.

.4 is nothing! If you're going to gain, that's a great gain! :thumbsup2

Listen. Post. Reading helps, but posting your struggles and getting support helps more. I mean, mostly we don't just ignore the cries for help and we actually offer suggestions and stuff. ;) Right, guys?

Ronda - thank you for the recipe the other day. Forgot to say thank you, so thank you!

Steph - So, when are you getting back on track with me? I need a buddy. This is hard!

Roddy - We quote Kevin Smith's oeuvre all the time. Our best friends are huge fans, too, and most people we know here know his films. I think I covered our favs - every time I mention the internet, every time I'm in a bad mood, every time we don't know what someone just said. I seriously cannot say 36 or 37 without going through the whole bit. Very teenage boy of me. But that balances out my teenage girl squeeing at Bruce.

I've never met Kevin, but seen him I town a bit. Last time I saw him, he was smoking a cigarette outside his comic book store, this was in December, and I called my girlfriend and was frantically whispering into the phone about my K Smith sighting and how cool my town is. And my BFF's husband was laughing at me, as she ran across the street to say hi to him. Sooo teenage girl.

The only film we don't quote is Jersey Girl. Nothing more to see there, move along now.

So, for me, family party today. Whee. See my excitement. Not my family of course, as they live in IL. And I weighed myself again and I am up 1.5. WTH??? Tell me it's temporary. Because I am tracking sooo well and I have got to lose this week. Must. Lose. Or someone with his 37 points is going to get it.

I do understand that part. And I truly do LOVE the WW program. I swear by it. I would whole-heartedly recommend that program to anyone who is trying to lose weight and learn how to eat healthy. But parts of it do bother me some.

Now, I will grant you, the only meetings I've ever been to are "local" meetings that are run by people who have been successful WW "losers" and trained by whatever means WW trains their staff. I have never stepped foot into a WW Center (not one close by), and don't know if they have staff there who have more of a scientific-nutrition background.

I have learned a lot thru the years in talking to true nutritionists about individual-specific needs. WW totally caters to the masses. And they have been really successful at it, and helped millions of people lose tons of weight. When you have a lot to lose, their "one size fits most" approach to points ranges works. When you get down to the nitty gritty last 5 pounds, sometimes you need to be individually analyzed to find out what it's going to take for you to be able to not only shed the remaining weight, but to maintain that loss once it's gone.

The other thing that has always bothered me about WW (and BL) is their only measure of your success is the scale. Again - my body with a healthy amount of muscle weighs more but is smaller in size than when I am less muscular. And since muscle is my calorie and fat burning friend, I want to keep it.

It is very true that as we age, we have a tendancy to lose muscle. That's where, I believe, the percieved need for less calories comes from. Any person of any age will need less calories to maintain, or lose, weight if they are not concerning themselves with their muscle mass. However, if you are working to maintain and even build muscle you can reverse that trend- and keep, and even need, those extra points/calories that you want to be able to consume.

Since I have such a love affair with my food - my plan is to NOT grow old gracefully, but to fight it every step of the way. I know what mother nature's plan is for me, but guess what. Joke's on her. I'm not playing her game!

Stepping off my soap box before anyone thinks I'm a WW hater. I'm so not.

.4 is nothing! If you're going to gain, that's a great gain! :thumbsup2

Listen. Post. Reading helps, but posting your struggles and getting support helps more. I mean, mostly we don't just ignore the cries for help and we actually offer suggestions and stuff. ;) Right, guys?

Right Liz! :thumbsup2

Sunny, .4 could be anything. Anything at all. A pint of water weighs roughly a pound. So, 1 cup. 8 little ounces of water could show you a 1/2 pound gain. A little extra salt in my dinner, and I'll retain more than that, easily. So if you are doing all the right things with consistancy, it'll happen. No worries.

Ronda - thank you for the recipe the other day. Forgot to say thank you, so thank you!

I read that recipe when I was really hungry  Started craving cranberry sauce

I'm sure your weight gain is temporary too. Just your body having a "going away party" for your extra before it lets it all go again.

Have fun with your family today.

Me - I'm going to go sew costumes.

But on a positive note, I didn't talk myself out of going to WW. I almost didn't go because I knew I had gained, but I went.

.

Good for you Sunny. Good for you. :surfweb:

Chasing Amy quotes too? Kevin Smith is obsessed with Degrassi so he's up here a lot. It plays in Clerks, yes? I've never seen the whole movie. I don't know why. Blashemy I know.

As for the 1.5 yes temporary Liz. For sure. How could it not be? Really. Seriously.

That's why I hate the scale. I can literally eat something that stays/sits and doesn't agree with me and four pounds can come and go. I know TMI but oh well. :rotfl:

I so want to replace my camera battery. I just got a red short trench I want to show you. So badly. $33 bucks less 15% for filling out a survey. Yeah!

Nancy. Have you seen those new air pods one can get in to get tested. I wonder if universities have them. I should check.

Paula - thanks for your words. I have no idea. I can't believe I'm actually thinking about it instead of simply dreading it. I'm not sure if it's a date or some kind of physical contact I need. ;) But if it comes with dinner all the better. :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao:

Oh boy. :rotfl2: Maybe I should save up and go for a massage.

K - I'm going to blame this on the congestion in my head :rolleyes1 But I missed something apparently. Please enlighten me, if you don't mind.:goodvibes

A freakin' GALLON. :scared1: I probably did drink about 3 qts yesterday. When we meet again Tuesday, I need to let her know how things are going.

I probably drink somewhere between 2 and 4 liters a day. I am not quite to the gallon mark but the last week I have been staying around 3 liters and maybe I should add the 4th?

I also find that the more water I drink, the more my body adjusts. Like the first week I was going to the bathroom a lot, but now it is pretty normalized.

Good Morning. Been a little off track for about a week. My daughter works at Walmart's home office and things have been a little stressful with all of the lay offs. She didn't lose her job, but the tension is getting to her and she is getting to me. I've didn't track last week and gained .4 pounds this week.

Hi Sunny!! Sorry about your daughter's stress.

Liz is right about posting more, you know... :)

Good Morning Everyone
...

I have woke up this morning with the same stinking headache I went to bed with last night  And to top it all off, im at work now :headache:

Hope everyone has a great day :)

Sorry about the headache! Do you normally work on Saturdays?

...

Fun, family stuff. I read something this week that says that in order to not get discouraged, you should track your weight as a rolling average. Evidently the actual weight you are from day to day has a lot more to do with how much fluid you have drank/are retaining, and other bodily factors. He has a spreadsheet you can download and everything!

I am meeting a friend for a long walk in about an hour. It is about 55 today and sunny.

Sorry about the headache! Do you normally work on Saturdays?

Unfortunately, Yes. I work 5 days a week but our office is open Monday-Saturday so we get a day off in the week and work Saturday. Sometimes I get a Saturday off but they are few and far between - although thinking about it I don't see the boss that often on Saturdays

Side note: Could I have possibly said Saturday any more in that sentence :lmao:

Sunny - I think its great that you still went to WW. Thats a problem I have. If I know ive gained its so easy to say 'I'll miss this week and make up for it next week' which of course I never do. So good for you for still going :cool1:
Definately post more :)

Liz - Have fun at your family party! Whee - I could see your excitement from over the pond :rotfl:

Kat - Enjoy your walk, 55 and sunny sounds good to me! Of course, it is night time here so I don't know what Im expecting :rotfl:

Everyone - Hi!

Ah, Kelly, that makes sense!!

Mr Kat usually works both Sat and Sun and gets 2 days off during the week. Our retail stores are usually all open every day but 3 major holidays (xmas, easter, t-giving). He gets some Sundays off, and sometimes gets a whole weekend off but it is maybe once every other month or so. He just left for work, actually.

55 is a bit cold for here, but not too bad. I am sure we will warm up quickly!

I can see a new economy emerging in rented WW points. Just like a DVC. They could expire and everything.

It's cold again and we need to get outside. My C25K doesn't start again until Monday. I need to move around.

Ronda

HA! Good one, Ronda!

Nancy--I have lots to say about WW and science/nutrition, etc. But no time now. If I forget remind me. Like you, I think WW is a wonderful program. Wonderful. But it does need to be tweaked. Anyway, more to follow.

Yes! Love Chasing Amy. Love it.

Wagon update--I may go off a tiny bit tonight. We are going to a wine tasting. But it is a TASTING, which means you spit (I always find that so funny...wine is supposed to be this refined thing but in order to do a proper tasting you have to spit! :lmao: ) Mostly, we don't spit--b/c we love wine and want to drink it! But in this club, you spit. So I am not sure if that counts as going off the wagon or not?

Nothing to report. Kids have been on break all week and are due to go back to school on Monday...and a snowstorm is predicted.

I also find that the more water I drink, the more my body adjusts. Like the first week I was going to the bathroom a lot, but now it is pretty normalized.

I think that has already started to happen for me. The first day that I did this, I was in the bathroom constantly. The odd thing is, I thought that drinking water was supposed to help curb your appetite. :confused3 I'm finding the complete opposite. I am ravenous.

I read something this week that says that in order to not get discouraged, you should track your weight as a rolling average. Evidently the actual weight you are from day to day has a lot more to do with how much fluid you have drank/are retaining, and other bodily factors.

I definitely agree with that. My weight can easily fluctuate a pound or two in either direction. It's that "average" number that I bounce around that I try to be most concerned with.

I am meeting a friend for a long walk in about an hour. It is about 55 today and sunny.

Hope your walk was great. 55*? Nice. It's in the 30's here, but at least the sun is out today. Tomorrow we are supposed to get crud. A couple of inches of snow, then rain. yippee. :sad2:

Side note: Could I have possibly said Saturday any more in that sentence :lmao:

I can see a new economy emerging in rented WW points. Just like a DVC. They could expire and everything.

 Black Market WW Points.

'k. I'll try to remember.

Spitting doesn't count as going off the wagon, in my book. However, it does count as a sinful waste of perfectly good wine. ;)

Well yeah. I'm not going to pay $12 when I know I've gained.

$12??? Is that what it costs to go to a WW meeting these days? wowza.

Sounds ultimately cool. My brother and I are movie hounds. So, if it isn't a Kevin Smith movie, it's a Godfather movie or something else from the movie script-filled crevices of the jelly like mass in my cranium that I like to refer to as my brain. I'm actually afraid my brother is going to become the "Lawnmower Man" of movie trivia and one day he'll *poof* :wizard: into a movie script, dvd or whatever.

Kat is going to drown herself by drinking so much water {ahem} Just sayin'! :)

Oh! and I hope your family thing went well.

It was nice, fine when we were walking but a bit chilly when stretching and talking in the parking lot after. We went to a nice greenway that starts at the art museum in Raleigh and goes a little more than 2.6 miles. So, 5.2ish miles in about an hour and a half? Plus it was definitely NOT flat. I am tired but not wiped, in fact I stopped at the gym for 30 min of strength training on the way home.

Yup, that is why I am too cheap for WW.

Water definitely helps with appetite for me... but I also just ignore hunger a lot.

Hey everybody!

I was almost in the doghouse today! I forgot today was the last day for my daughter's gymnastics class and neglected to register her. Well, the Y said it was closed, but I saw some availablity online. It's paid cleared my bank, so we are good to go. :scared: Agh! Can't have a 4 year old mad at me.

I spoiled myself a bit today ~ pedicure. It was awesome, so relaxing. Now, instead of my toes just being cold, they are cute cold toes.

Not much else to say here. Off to catch up!

Paula - thanks for your words. I have no idea. I can't believe I'm actually thinking about it instead of simply dreading it. I'm not sure if it's a date or some kind of physical contact I need. ;) But if it comes with dinner all the better. :lmao: :rotfl: :lmao:

Lisa - go for the date. The masseuse won't buy you dinner... :rotfl2:

Hi gang -

I survived the Odyssey tournament. The teams were great and their solutions were funny. Unfortunately, someone insisted on providing this big ole bowl full of peanut m&m's that I got into. Nothing too serious, but not good none the less. The rest of the day was pretty much on plan so I should be fine. Dinner was a big salad and one BBQ rib - yup one. Was way to full to eat any more so that was pretty good. I am training tomorrow so I am sure Jesse will work those calories out of me pretty quick.

For those of you who are nervous about weighing in when you know you have gained - go to the weigh in!!!! You never know and you may be surprised to find out that you lost. Even if you didn't, the info / motivation / support that you get may be just the trick to get you out of the rutt and back on track. Please don't hide from whatever your measure of success is. The folks there (even if it is the folks here on this board) want to help you succeed. You just need to find it in yourself to allow them the opportunity to help.

OK - I am tired and punchy and getting off my soapbox now. I've been up since 4:00AM and desparately need some sleep.

Talk to you all tomorrow,
Paula

Sounds like a great workout today. I'm sure your body appreciated the relative "gentleness" as compared to hockey!

Yup, that is why I am too cheap for WW.

Gosh. It's been a while since I've attended a WW meeting. I've forgotten what it actually cost when I went. I just remember buying multi-meeting packages because it was more economical that way. Plus, having paid up-front I was more likely to go.

Water definitely helps with appetite for me... but I also just ignore hunger a lot.

I've been doing that as well. Trying to distract myself. Definitely still eating all my points, so it's not like I'm "shorting" myself at all

But with all this WATER. Previously, if I was hungry mid-afternoon, I'd make some tea. The hot tea always seemed to trick my stomach into thinking it was full and happy. But now, with the water? I'm drawing the line here - not drinking HOT water :crazy2:

Can't have a 4 year old mad at me.

Hell knows no fury like that of a 4 year old girl jipped out of her gymnastics class :scared1: Good thing for you that you were able to get her in :upsidedow

I spoiled myself a bit today ~ pedicure. It was awesome, so relaxing. Now, instead of my toes just being cold, they are cute cold toes.

Sweet! I was just thinking this morning that a nice pedicure would do me a world of good. Didn't do it though. If I had gone today, I'm sure DD would have insisted on coming along.

UGH! M&M's are like crack. :scared: Once I start, I just can't stop.

Confession time. We went to M&M World in Times Square. Bought an assortment of the little beauties in "girly colors". princess: Ate a bunch while we watched the show. :sad2:

Pure evil they are. Shame on those M&M pushers for making them so irresistable :headache:

Thank you, Paula. The support system is so important. And I find that when it's hardest to make myself "check in", that's when I need it the most.

Hope you have a good night's sleep! I think you're going to need it if you are training tomorrow. Are you going to confess to your M&M's? :confused3 Do you think that he'll work you harder if you tattle on yourself? :scared: I can never keep my mouth shut. I always end up "outing" myself :headache:
