In Search of My Body....Not the One I ATE! Vol. 5: Goddesses are Always on Top!

Nancy--great job! Ok, let's talk points. Right now I am counting calories, but I may switch to points...just thinking about it. But I only get 18-19 points per day plus splurge. I know that you figure on about 28 points a day, right? Do you divide your splurge points into 7 days? As in, you are really allowed 23 points per day, but then you add in 5 splurge points each day?

This is where it doesn't make sense to me. We are pretty close in weight, so you should get one more daily point than me, right? So if I am allowed 18-19 daily points, shouldn't you be in the 19-20 daily point range and not 23? (Can you tell I am looking for a loophole that would allow me more daily points??? :rotfl2: ) Or are you also factoring in exercise points?

It HAS been quiet today!

Yes, yes, and yes!

Honestly - I'd have to pull out the *stuff* to tell you exactly how I figure my points. But yes. I get something like 20 or 21 points per day.

Then I divide the weekly "extra" points (is it 35?) and split them up for my days, and add 5 per day to that beginning number.

Then, I do also add in a few extra points for my exercise. WW gives me more points for my workouts than I do - I only figure an extra 2 or so per day - so that's how I come up with 27-28 points for an average target. If I have a killer workout day and am legitimately hungry, I'll allow an extra point or 2. If I don't work out at all, I try to go on the lower end (26-27) but that doesn't always go according to plan!

Now. I may be able to lose a little faster if I trimmed my daily points back to 25-27, but I have to be reasonable and know what is going to be something I can stick with.

My water intake has been inadequate. In talking with the trainer, I've realized that there are certain factors that effect me and I haven't properly been accounting for that. Her feeling is that I've quite likely been under-hydrating (not necessarily dehydrated per se...) and my body is holding onto all that it can because I don't give it enough! Hopefully now that I've "upped" the hydration, it will start to pay off. :upsidedow

FUN OT COMMENT...

So I just started a new class this week, and one of my students works for DVC! She posted it in her intro. Of course I was all over that, told her that I am an owner, that I love it, etc. So now she starts all of her projects with, "Welcome Home, Doc...." HA! She is SO getting an A!

:rotfl: Yep. She's one smart cookie. Knows just how to brown-nose the teacher

Hydration is SO important, both for weight loss and overall health. I try to take in at *least* 64 oz a day, and that is on the days I don't exercise. I add another 16-32 on exercise days.

I am strange in that I absolutely CANNOT drink while I am exercising. It makes me physically ill. Therefore I try to make sure that I drink at least 8-16 oz about an hour before, and 16-32oz within an hour after.

Ok, water. I have questions. We all know that a minimum of 64 ozs. per days is optimal for not only weight loss but overall health. (Yes, there was that ONE study from last summer which said that we don't actually need that much water for weight loss, but that study stands alone...everyone else says you need water.)

So here's my question. Does only water count as water? I know that with WW, you can substitute a certain percentage of your water with "Crystal Light" type of stuff (sugar-free, calorie-free, caffeine-free, powdered drink mix). And I think it is NurtiSystem that also allows for this same substitution.

What about things like decaf green tea? With nothing added to it? By the same logic as goes for Crystal Light, this should count as a water substitute, right?

What does everyone think?

I don't count anything flavored. My water intake is plain water, nothing else.

I almost always drink mine straight from the tap, too. Nothing against bottled water, per se, but most things I have read lead me to believe that there is nothing better about it except maybe taste. As I am cheap, and hate water anyhow so taste is not a factor, I just fill an eddie bauer 32 oz bottle. :)

Good morning ladies and gent! Sorry for the MIA-ness but life is pretty full right now.

I am here to report that, being mid-challenge, I did my calculations again. I am currently at -3 inches and -1.7% body fat. I also put in 25.45 miles over the week. I weighed and am down 2 pounds from the challenge start. So, I am on track to reach my goals and feeling good about that.

Yesterday was a pretty laid back day for me what with the snow and everything canceled. I was nearly done work when a frantic neighbor called and her 2 daughters along with 2 other girls had been riding on one snowmobile around her house and disappeared from the property. This woman had been out walking the trails looking for them for 2 hours and could not find them. Shelby volunteered to hop on one of our sleds and track them on the trails around here. She found where they had gotten stuck a few times and then found them within walking distance of their house so stuck that there was no way they were getting out. The girls were dressed in hat, mittens, tee shirt and light jackets, flannel pajama pants and UGG boots with no helmets. Shelby said they were frozen when she found them. Shelby had also found the mom who was walking the trails and put her on the back of our sled to go searching. When I took David to hockey 3 hours later, I saw the mom and the man she lives with walking out of the woods with shovels and the snowmobile freed. Talk about losing the ability to breathe. When the mom told me how the girls were dressed, I nearly died. Shelby could tell I was upset on the phone and in hearing part of the conversation she was already dressed and helmet on by the time I was done talking. Anyway, all home safe and sound and yeah, so much for my "relaxing" afternoon...:sad2:

So, today I have to take the girls to the gym, David to free skate, still clean the house (did I mention the cleaning lady is sick...AGAIN), do the laundry and general daily household crap. David has a swim meet tomorrow, Shelby has field hockey practice at the same time and then Sunday is off to Hampton, NH for a field hockey tourney until late late late at night.

Take care everyone and have a great weekend. I will check in again when I can!

Kelly, your food is always a learning experience. For instance, today I learned what a satsuma is! Sort of like a clementine, but not really: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikan

Is sugar free jelly like what you would spread on toast? Or more like jello?

I also learned something new - I just assumed Satusumas were a Universal kind of thing! :rotfl: It is a bit like a clementine, but satsumas can be very sweet!

Jelly on toast? :scared1: My sugar free jelly is more like Jello - wobbly! Is jelly (the toast kind) like jam or marmalade?

Oh, phew! I'm glad you clarified that. At the beginning, I was under the impression you wanted to be a line of coke. :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

:rotfl2:

Shhhh... Don't tell anyone, but Kelly is on her way to becoming a member of the droopy bummocks pant club... :rotfl:

Oh yes! :lmao:

Hi everyone! It is CHALLENGE day! Post your results!

Lisa--Yikes! Glad Shelby found them! That could have ended up on the news otherwise. GREAT job with the challenge results! What did you do differently to lose 3" in 3 weeks? And from what area did you lose the inches?

My challenge results
- OT across the board. Tracked every day, stayed in my calorie range every day, and I have to go back and add up my exercise minutes. But there are a lot of them thanks to 6 hours/week of PT alone.

Speaking of PT...off I go.

Is it really possible that I haven't posted all day? Guess I don't have much to say. How...unusual. :lmao:

That is where I'm at. I literally have nothing to say. Unless you want to hear wining.

So shinsplints. I've got em. I wansn't paying attention to what you were perscribing to Amy. Am I supposed to power thru the pain. Rest it. Put icy hot on? Ice in a bag? Ramp down my workout? TIA.

Amiee--I teach for LSU (though not currently). Whatcha taking?

That's cool. I want to take as many courses as possible at LSU because they are so inexpensive. We don't have a maximum transfer amount. :worship: To start, I am taking an intro German class. Then I am going to move on to some business & English courses. They have a ton of courses that I would enjoy.

Love it!

As usual, I am running behind. Might take my computer with me to burn an hour or so before work. Gotta get my mini me off to pre-school.

Erika, basically I just ramped up my core work and my miles. I also started consciously eating every 2 hours hungry or not and making better filling choices with what I am eating. I am being very careful with my post run snack that it is high density and high protein. A PB and banana wrap is working well for me currently.

I am only keeping track of my chest, waist and hip measurements currently and I lost 2 inches off my waist. This is definitely due to the core work and cutting the fat/calories in my diet. I may have found a balance that is working for me.

Thanks for saying hi too, I thought I was starting to smell or something! :rolleyes1

Progress to goal:
Exercise at least 4x -- exercised 6x (but yanked a calf muscle on Wed, so I'm toning it down next week)
Snacking -- rocky couple of days early in the week, okay for the last 3
Weight loss -- down 0.2 lbs this week. Not much, but considering the snacking and that it's TOM, I still consider it progress. That makes 3.2 lbs total towards my 5 lb goal in this challenge.

Glad it's Friday -- I'm sick of being at work. Have a great day, everybody. :yay:

Good Morning...

I am still wiped out from my workout yesterday. Jesse admitted that he was totally kicking my butt yesterday and my body is screaming proof of that today. Ugh... is about all I can say. I'll get over this, but I just needed to whine a little bit (or maybe I just need some wine - hmmm?).

Anyways - challenge results:
Have stayed pretty much on track food wise for the week. Things got a little dicey on Tuesday night when someone brought these homemade caramel blondies into the house. (That wasn't pretty.) Already planned my meals and snacks for my first Odyssey tournament day tomorrow and am feeling pretty confident about that.

Exercise: 3 strength training + 2 cardio workouts for the week so on track with that

Weight - down 2 pounds (as of my JC weigh in)

Erika - no giving special treatment to a student in the hopes of her bumping your points up.

LisaPR - so glad that all worked out well for your neighbors. That was scary. Hope the cleaning lady gets better soon.

As for the water debate, I think JC allows for some flavored water over the course of the day, but they generally prefer that it be plain water. Of course, if you were to squeeze some natural flavorings into it (lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, apple, etc) I'm sure it would be fine. They even allow carbonated water as long as it has no sodium in it. I tend to drink my plan, from the tap, sometimes cold - but usually not. I bought a bottle from Target that is 24oz. I typically drink 3 of them on a regular day and 4 -5 when I work out. I am not drinking much else so it works out well for me.

Gotta run - talk to you all later,
Paula

These are the results from WEEK 2 (LAST WEEK). I am just playing around with a new posting format.

This week's results will be posted at the end of the day after everyone has checked in.

DisChallengeWk2.jpg

Challenge Results:

Exercise - 6 days out of 7
Tracking - 7 days out of 7
In-Laws Killed - 0 :rotfl2:

Isn't it funny that we are confused between jelly and jelly, but yet coke references cross the ocean? Ah, shaking head here.

Okay, we spread jam on toast and call it jelly. It's thinner than jam, less fruit parts, sort of a smoothed over jam. You don't have it there, Kelly. We do have proper jam and marmalade but they're not as country-wide popular as our jelly is.

And we call your jelly Jello. The brand name works as the common name, like Klennex or Zerox. Anything with gelatin is Jello here.

Lisa PR, I am so confused about the girls out in the snow. Were they trapped? We don't have snowmobiles here, I've never been, I'm confused as to why they wouldn't just leave the snowmobile and walk home. Because they were going to freeze! OMG!

Food and challenge - I have been tracking for two days. Tracking well. So much easier to stay on program this week. Yet, I have lost no weight and I know it's two days but it makes me angry. Seriously, I was like in junk heaven. Shouldn't my body be throwing the weight off, like life vests on a sinking ship???

Also, do you know my husband gets 37 points a day? 37. 37. 37. Omg, I want to kill him. The most I got, at 237 mind you, was 29. He gets 37!!! I could go to town on 37! 37 is like a splurge day where I get drunk!

And on points...I don't want to alarm my friends, but did you know that when you get past age 38 you drop down a point? Yes! So if you are in the 170's and you have 23 points, now you have 22! My friend just aged out, so she lost a point. So, Erika, you should have, I am sorry to say, 19 points at 135. But, you only get 18 now!!! Plus your 35. So you'd get max 23 if you spread your points out like Nancy does. So Nancy, your max is like what? 24? God, that's so unfair.

And that, my dear Lyz, is whining. Now let's see what you've got!
