In Search of my Body...Not The One I Ate.. #4 "Inspiring Others... 1 Tiara at a Time"

Liz, I hope everything turns out well for both of them. I was just reading an article yesterday on how they have done studies of DNA and discovered genes in your makeup that predispose you to cancer, diabetes, heart disease, even being obese. It was pretty interesting to read.

I think that my kids are so happy to hear someone elses voice, they would walk through knee deep chicken manure with their father!! We laugh about it sometimes. I can speak 100 times for them to pick something up and he comes home and asks them nicely to pick it up and, presto, it is done. They seriously hear me so much they tune me out. But, yes, we are around for the important things and that is something I know my kids will remember far more than Mike showing up to a game or two, or taking them to the movies or anything else. Just knowing I am here for them is in their hearts, I know!!

Sarah - tell me about this 100 cal pack thing. Is it a rule? Like you only allow yourself one a week? Tell me more.

Sarah - tell me about this 100 cal pack thing. Is it a rule? Like you only allow yourself one a week? Tell me more.

I decided to try to be healthier and sub 100 calorie packs for fruit. They were never a "problem" but I don't think I was eating enough fruits or veggies so instead of cupcakes or crackers I am eating more dried fruit, fresh fruit and veggies.

Hey everyone!

Liz--Lots of prayers and good vibes! :goodvibes

So I think what caused my rash was the ice pack. Well, what was in it anyhow. It's one I got in a race goody bag, and has this gel stuff in it. I think the gel stuff was leaking out onto my skin.

I ordered new shoes, on close-out so they were only 66 dollars! and free shipping. Here they are! Aren't they pretty?? They also had an outstanding price on the new model, which I would have bought as well to try out if I had a job.

Shins are very sore today. I still plan on attempting C25K, even if I end up doing it a bit slower. or I may just do core. Not sure yet.

Don't get me started on that octuplet/sextuplet mom. OMG. I have VERY strong opinions on that. So freaking irresponsible of that fertility doctor. And WTH was SHE thinking.

E-Continued good vibes for feeling better soon!:goodvibes And holy crap about your accident a couple years ago. :scared1::scared1:

It is interesting why some people can be in great health and do it all right, and still get this...but their health does help them recover, too!

And on the other end - Nick's job can be demanding, and he doesn't often eat dinner with us. In encouraging him to go for more responsibility, i asked my dad how much he eat with us. I remember him being around all the time, but in reality, he wasn't. But he was because when he was with us, he was on. There's nothing worse than seeing those parents with laptops on the bus to the MK.

Ah, good plan! I have stopped buying a lot of those, too, for that reason.

Very pretty shoes! What kind are they? Where did you get them?

Yes to the mom and yes to Erika. Scary! The accident, not E.

Ah, good plan! I have stopped buying a lot of those, too, for that reason.

Whats funny though is I still have a bunch in my pantry. Pretzels, Ritz Crackers, Pringles Stix, etc... I will probably bring them to work and hand em around. Either that or keep them for the times DH and I go hiking. Nice to have a salty snack when you hike.

Liz - sending prayers and good vibes for your mom and your friend (and to their caregivers too...)

Amy - Awesome new running shoes. Take care of those shin splints.

Kelly - Congrats on the WW meeting. Sometimes, a fresh start is all you need to get back in the game. You are going to rock this week. I can tell.

LisaPR - Congrats on the loss. Celebrate it and enjoy the nice weather while it lasts.

Nancy - Don't work too hard.

Sarah - enjoy your 100 calorie pack. I still need my sweets too. Plan it, eat it, track it, own it.

I am swamped today so I won't be on much today (that makes me sad). I'll check in tonight after my session at the gym. Funny story - he is looking to add a few more clients into his schedule and was asking if I had any friends. I told him that my local friends wern't ready for it, but that his fan club might be except for the fact that they all lived out of town. He was like what - I have a fan club. I said yup - you all have been commenting on the changes in me since I have started training and jumped on the Jesse fan club wagon. He was like a little kid with this big ole grin. So if any of you want to come to Albany to meet him, he is interested in meeting you all... (I'm sure he would be willing to kick your butts to in a workout...)

Liz- Shoes are Asics (GT 2130's). I bought them at holabirdsports.com. I am a moderate overpronator when I run, so these are in the stability category of running shoes. FWIW, I can't stand to do anything but walk in Nike's. I haven't tried New Balance or any other brands yet.

Paula-So funny about Jesse! I always forget that you live around Albany. I love that little airport there. So easy to get in and out of!

Kelly-It sound like you are getting back on track!!

Thanks, Kelly.

Ok, tell us all about WW. Was the leader nice? did you make a weight loss friend? Did they give you a free sample? Ooooh I love the free sample days!

I really like the leader, which is good because the last one I had did nothing for me - no motivation, no advice, no nothing!
My mum has re-joined with me, so she is my WW buddy but we did get talking to a nice lady who had just hit her target weight - I think she'd lost 5 stones all together (70lbs) so we chatted about that over a cup of tea! :rotfl:

Samples - we did try the WW brownies. They were so nice! I could have stuck my face in the plate of them and had them all!

Don't get me started on that octuplet/sextuplet mom. OMG. I have VERY strong opinions on that. So freaking irresponsible of that fertility doctor. And WTH was SHE thinking.

I just find it all very very strange!
Oh, I love the new shoes too :)

Kelly - Congrats on the WW meeting. Sometimes, a fresh start is all you need to get back in the game. You are going to rock this week. I can tell.

 Im hoping this is the fresh start I needed. I have been on fire today! No extra snacking, drinking my water, tracking everything - so far so good!

What did make me think yesterday was something the WW leader told us. February is British Heart Month, and she told us some scary stats.
In the UK someone dies every 6 minutes from a heart attack :scared1: That is very scary. Just by regular exercise you can considerably lower the chances of developing heart problems.

So its exercise for me tonight. I think I will go on the cross trainer while I watch Grey's Anatomy - cant beat a bit of McDreamy/McSteamy! :rotfl:

Amy - wait, what?! Does that say Deep Fried Pepsi? How is that even possible?
Also - Hog on a Log made me laugh out loud!

It was very good! I feel much more motivated after staying for the meeting - Ive just rejoined as a new member so we went through everything. I needed the new start I think.

So all in all im feeling more positive! :yay: I just need to get back on board with the exercise - starting tonight!

Glad you are feeling less in a funk!! :goodvibes

Go work out with Flack!! ;)

Listen. My mom's worried about her chemo, so if you have a second, an extra prayer there. She thinks it's not working. She could be on the crazy train, but also, she has really, really good instincts.

And. My 38 year old fit, healthy, friend is having double bypass tomorrow. He is not overweight, no history of heart disease, and fit as a fiddle - E, this is like Jeff. No kidding. He's got a 4 yr old and a 9 month old and a wife who is a freelancer. They have high hopes this will take care of the problem and he can go on with his life. He's known there was something wrong for about 5 years and has been fighting with doctors to treat him. He finally found one, and here they are.

So, if you have a second, I will PM you there names if you go that way, if not, any good vibes would be appreciated. And never, ever, take good health for granted. I will try not to!!!

Lots of good vibes and other stuff (if He doesn't strike me down) coming their way.

Those shoes look exactly like mine, but mine are pink where those are blue. I have broken them in some now and I LOVE them. SOO much better than the crap I was wearing before.

LisaPR, I hear ya. I read back and starting quoting and realized that I just had to declare thread bankruptcy and be done with it!

Today was supposed to be a rest day. But, I got my skates sharpened yesterday and bought new insoles and really wanted to get a couple of minutes on the ice to try them out before the big game tomorrow night.

So, I got up around 7:25, got everything together, drove over to the rink, got on the ice around 8:25 (rink is 30 min away). I warmed up a bit and then the guys on the ice wanted to play pickup, so we played full ice pickup, 4 on 3, for 30 min. There were 4 adults and 3 kids and the kids skated rings around us!!

At 9 I got off the ice and went to the gym... I mostly went to the gym because the rink showers are nasty and I really needed one. This is my old gym, which is paid up through the end of the month, so I figured why not. I did 5 min on the elliptical to cool down, 25 crunches on the ball straight up, 10 on each side, and then most importantly, showered!!

Funny, I NEVER get up and work out before work, but I feel all energized and pumped up. Maybe I should start trying this more often? If I actually do go to a morning workout, I really have crossed over to the dark side with the rest of y'all....

Deep fried Pepsi?! How is that even possible?!

I've never had the deep fried pepsi, but apparently it is fried dough with straight up pepsi syrup squirted on it. Yuck.

I actually ate fairly healthy at the fair. Grilled chicken pita with veggies, and roasted corn! The worst thing I had was fresh lemonade with real sugar in it. No sweets, nothing fried!

GOOD MORNING!

Today is WW day :scared1:

Im sure it will be fine...
Girl...start the info train cause I want to know how it goes!
Amiee - I hope you enjoyed getting your car fixed :rotfl2:

I have tracked everyday, I have drank my water everyday, I have not killed any in-laws - so far so good on the challenge! I am slacking on exercise but that WILL change.
Great Job!
Have a great day everyone!

I am officially on the couch with my leg elevated and on ice until further notice. I am NOT happy.
E - you must feel like you are being held down by duc tape! That is so not you. Hope you are better soon.
Time for my daily check-in.

Food: 31 points. On the high side - but totally honest. Even the chocolate chips that I ate. (Ghiradhelli milk chocolate  )
At least it was good chocolate!
Alcohol: none

Exercise: strength/cardio combo - 75 minutes. Total 645/2100.

Totally unrelated here - the news is on. And they just showed some of the a$$holes from the Peanut Corp. of America. Can you BELIEVE that they knowingly and willfully distributed products that tested positive for Salmonella? They should be force-fed their own poisoned peanut products. I hope they rot in jail.
Agreed and the smug look when saying I wil plead the 5th and not answer. If my loved one had ben the one to die I would have yanked his tongue out of his mouth and shoved it up his @ss where his head was when making the decession to willfully kill people over some dollars.:headache:
I hear ya on the peanut people, Nancy! They are right up there with the fertility doc who implanted SIX embryos in the woman with the octoplets. Did he confuse a uterus with a gumball machine??? :headache:
E - that was so funny! I think SS will be so far up her kazoo that the kids will probably not end up with her anyway for long.
Lisa PR - you make a good point. I think, in my case, Nick probably does more fun things with her. Like, I spend all day telling her to do things, and he waltzes in and takes her ice skating. But also, he makes a point of doing fun things with her. Now, on the other hand, I have no doubt she will grow up to love going shopping with girlfriends. :lmao:
Just wait till she is older and can appreciate all you do. You are more nurturing than you give yourself credit for. How else would she be so observant of you if you were not so observant of her!:lovestruc

Love those shoes and what an awesome deal!

Hi to everyone else I missed quoting!

I am with Dan on an out of town extended weekend. Traveled all day yesterday and will try and get on when I can. I am doing WW points and will try and post Sparkpeople if I can as well but I find it easier when traveling to pay attention to the fewer points. I also think since math is not my strongsuit that portion wise and point wise I get how many points something is out of my daily allotment more than I do calories out of such a huge number. Watching WW points and sparkpeople for the 2 days I did showed me that so far they were pretty close and I do like feeling I achieved a secret win when I choose foods that are 0 points. Do you who track with WW always give something at least a point value even if it says 0?

I excersized by walking Ace with Carsyn 2 nights ago and will walk loads today. Maybe even swim a bit.

Carsyn called last night and said that someone broke into lockers at the Y and stole multiple peoples things including her purse. The broke locks off and hers was upstairsin the room with all the TM's and excersize equipment. They have cameras but they face the machines not the lockers. She did not have cash in there but her brand new phone she just bought that she paid $100 dollars for ( worth $400) and her permit and her bladder medicine.

On the phone trying to get re-fills, re-issue her permit etc. Phone - cannot be replaced at that price but they will give us a deal on it for $200! :scared1:

A good friend of ours had his wallet with $500 taken and all CC etc as well as 4 other guys. A suspect is guess who? The kid who threatened to kill Treyner last year, Jenna's ex boyfriend! He came in and out of the Y 2 times yesterday within a 2 hour time frame. (You have to use a access card every time you re-enter) and he was expelled from school a few months ago for vandelizing an elementary school.

Anyway - worried about anyone having her info with identity theft issues. Should I call a credit reporting angency or something since we know he permit was stollen? Not sure what to do there.

Tuesday tracking for WW:
B-fast
2/3 cup TJ fiber cereal - 0 points
1/4 cup 2% milk - 1 point

Morning snack
1 oz reg pita chips - 3 points
1 Tbsp cream cheese - 1 point
1 Tbsp hot sauce - 0 points

Lunch
1/2 C collard greens - 0 points
1 cup grapes - 1 point
1/4 cup chow mein noodles - 1 point
1 Tsp soy sauce - 0 points
Boca Chicken Spicy - 3 points
Thin sanwich bun - 1 point
1 Tbsp hot sauce - 1 point

Early Afternoon snack
2 small tomatoes - 0 points
1/4 cup toffee walnuts - 3 points

Late afternoon sanck
Fiber bar - 2 points
Dinner

Turkey soup w/ 2 dumplings (homemade w/ celery, onion and carrots) - 3 pts
Rye Bread (2 slices) - 2 points
1/2 tbsp butter - 2 points

9 p.m. meal (not really a snack if I am honest)
Spicy Boca chk - 3 points
Thin Bun - 1 point
Hot sauce - 0 points

Total points was 27

I felt like I was not hungry after dinner - think the fiber bar filled me up I ate at 3. But then was ravenous in the evening again. I am telling you I love that spicy boca chicken to death. No more mayo on the bread - love those thin buns (not mine obviously:lmao: ) and with some hot sauce - fabulous!

Here is my issue. I know people say I should have all my points each day but I stopped when full and eating more seemed like forcing myself to eat. I felt I balanced throughout the day well. Eating every 3 hours at max, was at least something. I know I do not carry my points over and eating while out of town may put me into using my extra points a week, but how bad is it by going that close to 32 points?

We brought with us Fiber bars and good snack options and will eat healthy when possible.

Okay - that is it - now to figureout yesterdays total with dinner.:rolleyes1

*shudders* At least in the land of Fried Nastiness you found something decent!

Amy - wow, that food is beyond gross! i love that they have grilled chicken and veggies, though.

Dawn - If you are full, stop eating. If you always come in low on your points, or were "saving" them that would be another story. When we give that advice, or someone gives it on BL, it's specific to people. In general, your eat all your daily points and feel full and use extras if you have to. But one day or two of eating 30 and not 32 is not going to derail you.

We eat at home. It’s not always the lowest in fat, but we make it and it’s good and so much cheaper than eating out. Almost anything is okay in moderation. I lost about 20 pounds in 2008. Walking in the neighborhood is always part of our day. I started riding my bike to work.

#3 What your goals are for 2009 in terms of healthy living
Looking for a big goal, we decided to participate in a local 6.4K at the end of April. That got me looking at how to start a running program, which lead me back to the WISH boards, which mentioned C25K, which got me some podcasts and made me want new shoes and run the Disney half marathon. Hi Ronda! Welcome! And thank you for not being named Lisa, Liz/Lyz, or Amy/Amiee. :lmao:

Sorry, I love all of you - Amy, Amiee, Lisa V, PR, and Z. It's just that it's easy to type Ronda! Original!

Are we always at the top? Hmm.

We have some runners here -they will be along to say hi shortly. And Lyz will ask you questions. I only pop in to ask about purses, shoes, clothing, and Twilight. Have you read it?

We are super supportive. And we're nice, if snarky. You like snark, right? Who doesn't?

Man, I am punchy today. Maybe Erika slipped me some drugs.

Welcome!!! I am just starting to run myself. I have a 5k in May that I am doing.

Wrap up from yesterdays food extravaganza:

good points - I think points counted towards my beef chimi last night may be lower since online it included guac and rice and beans and sourcream for the total. I did not eat more than 1/4 of any of them. (Really proud there. I usually am the side/condiment queen - like can I have extra SC on the side please - type of girl.)

I ate the chimi but only tasted the beans and no more than a tablespoon of the rice and pkgd the rest of the SC and guac and beans to have for leftovers. Did not take the rice since it wasn't that good - Dan can't eat rice and I do not want to waste calories on something that isn't good.

I will say that I do think I have some sort of allergy to refined flour. Not going to do that again at all. Dan and I left saying that we will not have that food again and it was at one of our favorite restaurants. This was huge for both of us. Feeling like garbage after eating is not a way to go and it wasn't the amount of food.

Not sure what the deal is but I can say I have not felt sick and bloated in a long while and I did after dinner. I did not eat more than normal - if anything less - but stomach problems all night.

I am not sure what is causing it. Maybe it is beef. Maybe refined flour that they would have used in their chips or chimi shell.

I have switched to whole wheat or multi grain breads and have no reaction at all to any of them. I will even say I had a Long John yesterday and did not get sick and I am not sure what they would use if not flour in making it. But I am glad I am writing down my foods and tracking cause there is a definite reaction my body gets to eating certain foods like pizza (no beef there) so I keep guessing it is refined flour.

Any thoughts besides keeping journaling and trying to pin point this.:confused3

Food yesterday

B-fast
whole wheat english muffin - 2 points
1 tbsp Smuckers all natural chunky PB - 2 pts

Morning snack -
Maple glazed Long John -8 points (not worth the points but so worth the walk down memory lane:) Bought from a bakery that I only eat from once a year and have since I was 2. My great grandfather's old bakery recipie in fact.) - 8 points

Lunch - WW lasagna bolognese - 5 points

Afternoon snack -
Cheddar pita chips - 3 points
1 chocolate Brownie Gnu Bar - 2 points (not my fave and will not buy again. Targer fiber bar way better IMO)

Dinner
Shredded beef chimi w/ rice, beans and side of guac and sour cream/chips - 12 points for whole thing

choco fudge - 7 points (guess from internet) That was worth the points - beyond yummy

Total Points - 41 points and I will own all of them since I do not know what to take off for what I di not eat of the chimi platter - will just deduct extra points from week allotment at WW. Need to find that book and figure out what the extra week points are....

What I learned:

#1 I love Maple Icing and it does not have that many points - better choice would be to have dunked in pretzels rather that a fat riddled Long John.

#2 I love good chocolate fudge. Probably my alltime fave. Better than any Godiva anything I have had. Stop trying to find things that equal that love and just enjoy once in a while. Freeze some into portion sizes and take out once in a while.

#3 I do not need butter and peanut butter on my english muffin and Smuckers natural has less sugar than skippy and is just fine. I would rather have my extra sugar in fudge than in peanut butter.

#4 Drinking only water makes me feel better. Truthfully - I have kicked the milk junkie in me and that is huge.

#5 I am so greatful to have Dan in my life and that he and I are doing this together. Making changes. Evaluating meals and decessions and figuring out what we really enjoy in food vs what we craved out of habit.

I gotta go - take care guys and will report tom.:)

What's a Long John? Never heard of it.
