In Search of my Body...Not The One I Ate.. #4 "Inspiring Others... 1 Tiara at a Time"

oops. I got so caught up in reading/responding that I forgot what it was I was going to post in the first place

sleet/freezing rain overnight=delayed opening for school. Again. The kids got a little extra sleep, so actually, not too bad of a way to transition back to school after 12 days off...

Bad weather predicted again for Tues nite into Wed. Snow to sleet/freezing rain. Again. :headache: NOT TOO HAPPY.

anyway...

Had to have a *short* visit to the gym today (DH and I went together - my car is in for an oil change)....so I came home and....tried the hip hop dvd.

All I can say is THANK GOD I don't have big mirrors in my family room, or neighbors who can see into my house  I didn't do the *whole* thing...just did the "learning the steps" portion...then the warm-up and first dance session. Oh my. My oh my. I clearly lack rythym and grace. :rotfl2:

Oh and Dawn....your boot story made me laugh. One of my boys is really...dingy. We call him the Absent Minded Professor :rolleyes1 . He lost a boot. Couldn't find it anywhere. We went thru much the same scenes as you described....but....it was found. At the neighbors house. Turns out that their DOG came and stole it out of our garage...brought it to their house, thru the doggie door and dropped it in the pile of their boots. We discovered this, when we found the dog snooping around for more shoes to pilfer!

Hope everyone has a good day...I've got a rather long to-do list that I need to tackle.

Nancy's post reminded me of my...

Tip O' the Day--ok, you aren't going to like this one. Say good-bye to carbonated beverages. Yes, even DIET Coke or whatever. Carbonation acts like glue for your fat cells...makes it much more difficult for them to break down. Obviously, there is something to be said for moderation. The once-in-a-while diet soda is not going to make you blow up like a blimp. But it should not be daily. Same is true for even carbonated flavored water. Buh-bye.

Interesting factoid, though....this seems NOT to hold true for beer! Something about the alcohol content counteracts the hold of the carbonation or something. But seriously, beer is ultra fattening anyway, right? (Amy and Kat are going in detox just reading this! :rotfl2: )

So, since we talked about baby steps yesterday, I don't think that giving it all up at once is the way to go. But you should start to pay attention to (1) how much carbonation you consume; and (2) how much aritificial sweetener you ingest.

Erika, just a note on your post. I believe the difference between the carbonation in beer and soda is that the carbonation in beer is from a "natural" source being yeast fermentation. The carbonation in soda is, well, fake added carbonation.

Your tip of the day flowed right in with my diet tips for the week and the downsize drinks, give fake sweeteners the slip AND setting a sugar budget!! Wow, you encompassed a lot in your post!!!!

well, now...aren't you two like our very own Yin & Yang :rotfl2:

But truthfully...while I *know* it's an absolutely HORRIBLE choice..I just LOVE my Fresca  good ol' "glycerol ester of wood rosin". Who doens't want that in their beverage? :confused3

(back to my to-do list)

I KNEW there was a good reason that beer didn't count! :lmao:

I swear. You people really act like this is a weight loss thread. sheesh

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2:

And FYI...I haven't posted killer work-outs because I am in taper mode...not because I fell off the exercise wagon. Still figuring out marathon details. Will post eventually.

My plans are to go back to basics. Basics have worked for me in the past and will again (and yes, even with an occasional diet coke ;) ).

1) Stay away from the drive thru, chips, junk food, etc.
2) Plan. In other words, stock/make healthy foods and have them available.
3) 64 oz of water a day. Period. Even tho I hate it.
4) Move.
5) Moderate alcohol to occasional
6) Get at least 8 hrs of sleep a night
7) Willpower to accomplish 1-6.
8) TRACK!! I am going to start sparkpeople again today and put in my weekend food as well.

So far, I am working on baby steps, 1-3. 4 I am tapering up. 5, all of the holiday beer is out of the house, so that will help.

As to a half marathon, count me out. Too much childhood rheumatoid damage to justify what training for that would do to my feet, knee and ankle joints. I would do the 5K, though!

Tonight is the first hockey practice. I imagine tomorrow I will be sore as hell, but am planning on hitting the gym Wed and Fri at lunch. I have a hockey tournament on V-day weekend, so I would really like to be working out 4-5 times a week by then. Otherwise 3-4 games in a weekend will destroy me.

All this talk about artificial sweeteners made me think of my MIL because she cooks everything with low fat and artificial sweetener. I just sit there and want to scream "just because you made it with those ingredients does NOT mean it is good for you, does NOT mean it still isn't loaded with calories and does NOT mean you should eat an entire dinner plate full!!" And they have no concept of portion control. Perhaps you shouldn't eat a entire plateful of chicken and dumplings (but it is fat free so it's ok!), and perhaps you shouldn't eat a third of an entire pumpkin pie!! and then in the same breath complain about how much indigestion you have and how much weight you have gained. OMG.

I have broken up with diet soda.:sad2: What got me was really thinking that there is nothing natural about it. All chemicals pretty much. So water for me, G2 while running and my coffee in the AM. I only used 1 splenda in my big mug this morning. I hope to eventually not use it at all.

I won't break up with beer and wine though. I refuse. Not matter what you tell me about it! I will make more of an effort to track the calories that go along with the drinks though. I am hoping to purchase my will run for beer shirt at the expo.

Amy

Amy, I am delighted to see you back!

Okay, I KNOW about diet soda. I believe it. But it's that or insanity. Seriously. I can give up beer or wine for a month, or drink less, or act like a grown-up, but Diet Coke? I have to have something!

I don't smoke, I don't drink every day, I can and will avoid processed sugar...but omg. I need a crutch. To get me through this particular bit of my life. I could limit it - I rarely drink more than two a day as it is. (WDW was different, as I was also drinking booze during the DAY.)

I went to the gym today and I am tracking. So that's all good.

Jodi hear again today. Fingers crossed.

yeah - fuel for your fire...you can use that at your next workout!

Nancy - I will try... Thanks for the vote of confidence.. and yes, I did toss the cookies.... into the trash can...

Paula - do not beat yourself up...instead..beat on the person in front of you in water aerobics...can we all picture Paula giving Fran..in her blue flower swimmingskirt a smackdown?:rotfl2: I think water wrestling or boxing might be a fun sport...more of a work out as you push through water to punch something!:3dglasses

There are a few women I would love to beat up at my water aerobics class, but I may not get asked back if I did... they only know my cheerful and polite personality - not my snarky one...

OK - little blurb about soda.... get off of it now - yes even the diet stuff...
that little liquid can seriously mess you up... I don't drink coffee at all (can't stand the taste) so back in college I was totally addicted to diet coke. I drank so much of it the nutrasweet gave me dizzy spells... (found that out when I gave up soda for Lent and the dizzy spells stopped) Flash forward another ten years and thanks to my fake brain tumor condition had to go on meds that made anything carbonated taste flat and generally vile so no soda (or beer) for me period. When I came off the meds, I tried soda and couldn't drink it because it was so sickingly sweet. Now I drink water, FF milk or iced tea. Occasionally, I crave bubbles and then I go for club soda with lemon and lime. So, you will survive without it. Just give yourself time for your pallette to adjust and you too will find soda to be gross....

Paula

PS - the day is getting a little better - not much, but a little...

Hey all. Monday morning. Not much to post. Have lots to do. Will check in.

Amykab - bout freaking time. Missed you.

I missed being here regularly! Reading on the blackberry is pretty easy but actually posting can be a PITA!

Liz- Hey! Continuing my sticky baby prayers. Will they check her every week for awhile? I'm the one who can't give up beer/wine. I am however trying to cut back to the weekends only.

Kat-your plan sounds good! Do you like sparkpeople for tracking? I am debating between that and weight watchers.

I'd definitely be in for the 2010 princess half. I was set on doing it this year, but it is pretty pricey and there is a local local half for me the week before that I really want to do and is cheaper and is catered by my fave spanish restaurant. I'm torn. I could do them back to back, probably walk the local one since the time limit is 7 hours for the 1/2 since the full is run at the same time. IDK. Depends on if I am back to work or not. the princess is nowhere near being full so I have time to decide.

More like LOST and FOUND sometimes

Sounds like a good plan. Have fun at hockey!!!

I know, I know. :headache: But....Fresca. I looooove my Fresca

I went to the gym today and I am tracking. So that's all good.

yay for Liz :yay: And more prayers for Jodi...

Really? They think you're all sweet and kind? Apparently you've never offered to hold their head under for them :rolleyes1

OK - little blurb about soda.... get off of it now - yes even the diet stuff...

Just so you know. I had WATER. Plain ol' water with my lunch. :crazy2: (I hear a noise...oh....it's my Fresca cryin' cause I dissed it... )

I was so about to mutter "over achiever" :rotfl2: But really....2 half marathons in a row? That would be an uber-goddess status or something :worship: I don't think my body could take it.

One of the most exciting "finds" in Cancun. A tiny little hole-in-the-wall restaurant that had FRESCA. SEE? It's a totally cool can...in spanish, of course. Just *had* to take a picture....

Please don't make me say goodbye.....

Hmm, maybe we should descend on Amy and do the 1/2 there? Cheaper than WDW...long time limit... catered by Spanish restaurant (spanish or mexican?). What could be wrong about that?

I love sparkpeople. I would think it would be preferable to WW online, since it is free? But maybe not to WW in person because you lose the accountability of a weekly meeting.

Continuing thoughts of a healthy baby for Jodi.

And with ya on the Dt Coke. I am NOT giving up everything...

14 mile bike ride. Felt good, but am in a bad mood. Will go into lots of detail later.

Can you handle one more diet soda story?? MIL started giving DD diet soda! :scared1: Now I have on like one occasion given DD a taste of my soda out of my straw when she was getting squirrely in a restaurant. But MIL would sit Little D on her lap and feed her diet soda. Even after DH said something to her about it. So now anytime little D sees a soda can she wants one.:scared1: DD only drinks milk, water, and water diluted juice and G2.

I am running a fever. Yuck. Must get better by Saturday.

Erika hope everything is ok.

Kat The restaurant is spanish-cubany. Really good. Really good made tableside mojitos and sangria too. Although I doubt they will serve those after the race. The gasparilla 1/2 is only 50 dollars, compared to 125 at Disney! And you still get a tech shirt, medal and all that. they also have a 5K like disney, and I think a 15K. I might HAVE to run both this year to compare. but almost 200 in race entry fees is a little steep when I am not working.

You all are cracking me up...

I have drank probably 10 diet soda cans in my life...okay maybe 20...

regular pop...crave only when I get headaches usually...but have my moments...rarely order at restaurants...and only have pop at the house when we would have pizza etc...not a regular...hence the fact that I choose that to give up...baby steps...

I guess I should be greatful after reading the serious love addiction...count on me for most other foods though...like bread...crusty warm with butter...

Stop Dawn...:rolleyes1

I have been writing my foods...at 1338 today...and I think I am going to try and stop...I tell ya...the first day of tom...and I crave sweets...bad..

All you smarty people...why does that happen?:confused3

Paula - we will see you on COPS some night...women finally flips and chokes granny with water goggles...:lmao:

You are probably some bad @ss biker chick involved in a gang of Canadian drug runners for the elderly...you have a covert life we are just hitting upon...:3dglasses

Amy - glad you are back as well...and my running thoughts are ticking...

Hi to everyone - especially the new deep redhead:hug: ,

Haven't caught up yet! Exhausted.

Lyz - you make me smile every single day you are on the thread. You're too flippin' funny.

Erika - :surfweb: don't know what to type. Just :surfweb: and  .

Dawn :lmao: :rotfl: Dawn - yes, sometimes someone is wrong. True. And I was wrong in the way that I thought Carsyn would take your talk. Not "wrong" in general terms. But definitely wrong about that for sure. Hand's down. And once again happy that I was.

I haven't read a thing guys. Just skimmed. So have to get back at some point later on to catch up.

I lived in Spain for a while so Spanish food generally has a different meaning to me than most folk. It is tough to find a good authentic Spanish restaurant. There is one here but it is very pricey, and there were a few when I lived in Chicago.

Yeah, $200 in entry fees is lot!!

Sorry that you are feeling bad...

And E, sorry that you are in a bad mood.
