In Search of my Body...Not The One I Ate.. #4 "Inspiring Others... 1 Tiara at a Time"

You know I've been secretly waiting on the review of your hip hop tape. I would love to try one. I'm a good dancer. But not when there are specific moves to follow. When a set of moves/steps come - well no. But I'm dying to hear.

I'm hoping to try it tomorrow morning - we have to go help a friend clean a barn tomorrow...then do our own. I have to figure out how to calculate my exercise time in all of that!

:lmao: :rotfl: That's cute with the snack.

Yeah, except that I waited too long to eat it, and then I was REALLY hungry and ended up eating more than I intended. Still - good, healthy stuff, just more points than I had planned on using.

eh - what's the big deal right? My "goal" was to TRACK. I never said that I needed to stay within my points range :rotfl2:

Enjoy your Rainbow Trout, Lisa :upsidedow

Hi ! Feeling much better finally...have my niece here today and have been up since 5:30 am to get her and ahave just spoiled her with attention all day...

I have done well monitoring food today...yesterday not bad but literally had a hard time getting out of bed...

Today -
1/2 cup scrambled egg with celery/cream cheese
165 calories

3/4 cup penne pasta with home made garlic sauce
250 calories for 3/4 cup

chicken and rice casserole 350 - best guess

1/2 cup peas - 70 -
(Treyner had added butter to serving bowl - added a few calories and deducted my intake from 2/ cup

7 Staceys Tuscan pita chips
130 calories

Had 1 piece of cauliflower and dip...and a sliver of peanut butter bar Treyner made..so I should add about 100 calories I guess max

So total for today is 1065...it is amazing how much I could have still eaten today or how much a person does without realizing caloric intake...

I still am shocked about what my normal used to be...

Only about 2 glasses of water today though I bet..going to go try and get a few more glasses in...need a ticker on the fridge for glasses a day to drink...

No pop and no excersize...but will hit the treadmill at the Y tom afternoon when Skyler leaves...

If I do not catch up tonight...I will in the afternoon tom......we need to get an electrician in here...part of the circuit breaker blew and most of the electrical outlets do not work..lights yes..outlets no...so lap top is not an option...and Skyler is a tornado...did not nap at 14 months old...and is still not down yet! No sneaking away like I thought...:surfweb:

Glad to hear you are feeling better. Concussions can be tricky. Have fun with your niece.

Checking in with my daily totals...

Today was, as expected...hard. I've slipped back into so many bad eating habits. :headache:

SO. Starting weight this morning was 153lbs..

Food: I think I'll just post WW point totals, unless anyone is really curious about what I'm eating....my personal "target" daily total is 28, but I don't stress too much if it's as many as 30 points once in a while (ahem. Like today will end up being....:rolleyes1 )

Today's total = 28 points so far. I expect I'll have another 1 or 2 points in the form of a snack tonight...

Exercise - 45 minutes bike, 30 minutes strength training for a total of 75 minutes.

Grand total towards goal: 75/1500

Hope everyone is doing well on their chosen goal...

HAPPY NEW YEAR! This is OUR year people!

Dawn - :scared1: Oh my, keep an eye on that injury!Ummm...I cannot even keep my eye on the friggin radio...no chance it is gonna be on the top of my head...:lmao:

AKASnowWhite (Sorry, im not too good with names apparently!) - Love the T-Shirt, love the pear more! Where are you going to put it?!

Nancy -I say that the pear is put outside to greet all home visitors...on your front steps....you can decorate it for the season...shove a lil shamrock hat on it for St. Patricks day etc...it will cause all sorts of conversation..tell people you are descendants from a Russian Czar and in that part o the world...Pears were used not pineapples for hospitality...

and what a great way to gauge your kids future significant others...explain it is custom in your family to give it o each new wedded couple..you can't wait to give it to them..if they balk...or act like they would have no part of it...boot em to the curb...if they laugh...welocme to the family...

Okay. Ive weighed myself. Its not pretty.
I won't be posting my weight - I wont put you through that :lmao: , but I will tell you that from August 22nd (my wedding day - when I was at my target weight) I have gained 15lbs Its out there now, you all know my shame! :rotfl2:

Soooooo, healthy new year, healthy new Kelly.
Exercise, water, healthy eating, more exercise.

Whos with me.

Now im off to throw my scale and myself out of a window! :rotfl2:
you are so funny...you do not want to be on the 5 o clock news as death by scale...literally...
Morning! Today is Challenge Day! :cool1:

I am actually EXCITED. I am so ready to get these pounds off. Like Lisa/PR and Kelly, I have packed on extra these past few months, so those have to come off first. I am *hoping* that they will come off quickly since they went on quickly. I haven't signed the adoption papers on these fat cells yet and I don't plan to!

Paula--yes, muscle weighs more than fat, but I don't think your slight gain would be due to that at this stage of the game. A couple of things are likely at work here...(1) sure, it could be TOM. Only way to know that is wait it out and see if you go back down after he leaves; (2) When you are working out hard, you need to drink more water. Really concentrate on your water intake and flush your system as best you can; (3) it could also be the lactic acid build up in your muscles (which is what is causing the pain right now as well). Again, that will subside on its own but you can help it out. The tennis ball trick that Lisa mentioned is great for spot massaging. If you have a larger muscle that is really sore (quads or glutes, for example), I use the same principle as the tennis ball, but with a large tube (maybe 2' - 3' long) of PVC pipe and sort of roll on that. (FYI runners...this is FABULOUS to relieve IT band pain.)

So if your quads hurt, get on your belly, and put the pipe under your quad and sort of push up and roll the pipe up and down the length of your quad. And since the pipe is under you, your body weight is all the pressure you need for it to massage that muscle and break up and lactic acid build-up.

Since you are a construction goddess, I thought you might like the idea of using PVC as a work-out tool! :goodvibes Yes, there is a specific size of PVC but I don't know what it is off-hand, so I will look it up and get back to you on that.

Lisa/PR--You CAN do this! I know you can! You have been such an incredible inspiration to me this past year. Really. You lurk on this thread, but I have been lurker on YOURS. And I know how incredible you are, how dedicated, and how much you help everyone around you. We are happy to lift you now, if that is what you need. But I am super confident that you are going to kick this challenge's a$$!

Spark is good. There are several of us on Spark and Kat LOVES it. I have never been super active there, but that is because I hate to track! :rotfl2: I know I have to, though, so I am thinking about what is the best way to track for me. Online through Spark or WW? Journal? Not sure. But I know I have to do it. Anyone who has thoughts, let me know.

Oh! And there is a DisBoards Team on Spark...so come join us! Cam tends to lead a lot of the challenges, etc. She is great, as I am sure you know.

Erika's TIP o' the DAY: Before you do anything else in the morning (ok, you can go to the bathroom and brush your teeth), but really, first thing in the morning drink 20 ounces of water. Yes, 20. Or 24 if you have 12-oz glasses like me. (1) this will give you a great head-start on your water; (2) it stimulates and wakes up your metabolism; (3) it is filling, so you will eat a smaller portion at breakfast.

Then, have at least 12 ozs. BEFORE lunch and BEFORE dinner (same reasons). That alone knocks 40-48 ounces out. Then, drink water with your meals and during your work-outs and you will be at or over 64 easily.

Love you guys---let's GO!
need to do that water trick starting tom...and...when you buy the pvc pipe...do you give it a test run in the store to see if it is the right size...I am just picturing your Home Depot guy...

"yup..here comes that chick who gropes our pipes...":rotfl2:

Okay, I read back through and I remembered what I wanted to comment on. Yes, I have a cleaning lady. She is beyond wonderful. She does do the laundry while she is here. She even folds and puts away David and Shelby's clothes. She cleans the inside of my fridge and freezer. Spring cleaning is taking everything out of my cabinets and washing the things I don't use often, cleaning the cabinets and putting things back. She does it all and no, I am not giving her up for the world. I would give up coloring my hair or something else silly before I would give her up. She is so much help to me I cannot even say it. It is one of the few things that Mike will splurge on for me. No jewelry, no extras just the cleaning lady and that, my friends, is more than enough!!

Erika, flattered, really. I try to stay upbeat and help as much as I can. I truly loved being the captain of the Super Goofs and if the challenge does not continue, I will miss them greatly. Hopefully, we can run Beach to Beacon together this year. If not, pick a race and I will be there. Just a little heads up though because I work on Sunday and I have to get the time off.

Following up on the weight gain with exercise question. I will try and be brief. All the things Erika said are true. The other factor is that you are shocking your body. It will respond in one of two ways. Hoard every calorie and drop of water that comes into your system or immediately flush fat cells out. With the TOM looming, Paula, your body is doing the first part. Water, water, water is the key here. Flush out your system, the lactic acid from your muscles and the fat cells too. Another factor is that lactic acid holds water in your muscles. You have lots in there and you need to get rid of it. Muscle does weigh more than fat and the plateau that everyone hits is this point, where your body figures out what you are doing and balances itself out. Eventually, the lean muscle mass that you have built up takes over and lean muscle burns fuel more efficiently so you get that loss again.

The key to weight loss is diet and exercise. You cannot (as I am doing right now) eat the calories that you are exercising off. You have to maintain a calorie deficit where you eat the required calories in a day (for me 1200-1500) and then exercise to bring yourself into a deficit state. Not a hunger state, a deficit state. Make good choices with the food, heavy on the fiber and protein and you will stay full and fueled.

The water suggestion is also terrific for weight loss. The fuller you are, the better off you are eating. Bariatric surgeons make you go through nutrition counseling pre-surgery and some of the things they teach you is to eat your protein first, then your veggies/fiber and then your carbs. They also want you to drink before your meal, not with your meal. Take 20 minutes minimum during your meals too making sure to chew thoroughly. The little things you do matter the most!!

There I think I have said enough for right now. Hmm, maybe I should work.....:rolleyes1
Holy cow..I printed this out...and actually plan on reading it again...that part for me is amazing...:rotfl:
Nancy, I really adored those pictures. The fruit. My word. The shirt I love, it's something my mom would buy me in double and we'd have to take pictures wearing them.

Good advice all around. Listen. Not so good stuff here. I'm going to read and cheer you on and do my own thing, but that's why I'm quiet, okay? Newbies, returning friends, I really do love you. I do, I swear. But I'm not engaged and it's all my own stuff in my life. Another small hit today and I'm sorry that it takes away from the magic here.

So, I'm here, in the corner - see me? :thumbsup2
Liz - I am so sorry sweetie...she is a great reason we should all be better to our bodies...because she can't control what is happening to her...and there is so much of our weight loss and excersize gain...that we can...

Love to you and your whole faimily...and do not worry...I kept the corner warm for you...we all rotate there...don't we at times...

Got this quote today in a newsletter and thought of you all:

Quote of the day:

"Whatever you give a woman, she will make greater. If you give her sperm, she'll give you a baby. If you give her a house, she'll give you a home. If you give her groceries, she'll give you a meal. If you give her a smile, she'll give you her heart. She multiplies and enlarges what is given to her. So, if you give her any crap, be ready to receive a ton of sh*t."

Pretty empowering huh....

Remember, we are making ourselves greater with each step we take on our journey...

Paula

Paula...you gave me tingles...and no woman has ever done that for me before...

Everyone else- HOLA!!!!!!!

Hi team...just back from Moms' night out with my posse. Mostly fun, though Karen is still really hurting due to her new "single" status through the holidays.

Like Nancy, I will just post my totals as opposed to specifics.

Food--tracked. Check. And within caloric range.
Exercise - 90/1500 so far for the month.

This week-end will be tricky as there are still events...tonight was my moms group, tomorrow is spent with my sister who is visiting (and yesterday it was my other brother and his wife and 2 of their 5 kids), and then Sunday is our last event of the season. I literally can't wait for Monday.

Have a great night everyone and I will check in tomorrow.

Morning all!!!:woohoo:

LisaV...I Just wanted to let you know I took the wrapper off my hip-hop dvd...so, I'm getting closer  I don't have time to TRY it this a.m. as we are meeting a friend at 9:00 to help her clean a horse barn...but I do want to get a little preview of what I'm in for.

This is what the package promises:

"In just 10 minutes, your dance leader will teach you the 10 simple steps...."...ummm...I hope so. I'm not that great a dancer.

But here's the best part:
"the motion used in hip hop dance is known for developing unparalleled flat, sleek abs.." :woohoo:

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: OMG. This is going to be a riot.

Have a healthy Saturday Everyone!!!

Now that you have learned to post pictures, Nancy, you need to learn to post video....so we can all appreciate you doing your new hip hop moves! :lmao:

Liz - i know i'm a little late to the game, but  so sorry to hear. Let me know if you need ANYTHING, i've been through several rounds of this, not with a parent, so i cannot imagine, however i'm here......

Paula - loved that quote from the newsletter!

So I joined weight watchers the other day. I'm just doing online, with my work schedule and the locations/times of the meetings here it just wouldn't work, maybe that will change down the road, we'll see!

I'm trying to pay off my vacation and the Disney website is being assy, grrrr.

Well, off to the dreaded grocery store, i hope everyone is having a phenom day!

Paula - I too loved the quote. I need to go print it before it gets away from me.

Last night for dinner we had Pizza Hut. Mmm good. In my effort to eat thoughtfully, I had only 2 medium slices. And salad. Mad got her own personal pan pizza with her "book it" coupon. This morning she had one tiny piece left. OMG. I wanted that tiny little piece of greasy, cheesy, pepperoni goodness. Unfortunately for me, or should I say fortunately, she wanted it. I heated it up and gave it to her. I had to physically turn away. I then ate a box of cauliflower with cheese. The whole 3 servings. 150 cal total. But I didn't eat the pizza. I would have given the opportunity. Food is a drug for me. EriKa likes alcohol. I like food.

Dawn - well done on your tracking and eating yesterday.

Wow, I really slept in again. My kids let me get another 10 hours in and they didn't rip up the house. Have no clue what is happening. I can't possibly be this low on sleep.

Count me in the food is my drug. Bad thing is that I crave the expensive stuff (tapenade that is $6 a jar for 8 oz is the most recent). As far as yesterday goes, I walked for 20 minutes before I was interupted. So much for exercising at lunch. I stuck to my low-carb/good-carb plan. The kids are going with there dad later today, so I expect to get back on track exercising. One of these days, I am going to get up enough courage to do strength training. I know my abs need it bad and it will help with my back problems.

The sad thing is that I have a membership to the Y, but with my crazy hours, it is nearly impossible for me to get there. Agh, another waste of money.

Ok, so another mini-goal for me today...

Price some of the 24 hour places around me. We have a really nice place not more than a mile away, but it is very popular. I would definitely be jumping out of my comfort zone.

Not happening. Just simply not. OMG. That would be humiliating!

Food is a drug for me. EriKa likes alcohol. I like food.

I love both  Sure makes it hard, doesn't it? :headache:

But Amiee - you already have proved you can thrive outside of your comfort zone. Look at you. So go.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Lisa is smart. Listen to her :thumbsup2

So - I just had the *opportunity* to clean the nastiest barn I think I've ever been in. My dear friend was "hired" to clean this barn for a family who was relocated. They literally picked up and left. They had horses, goats, chickens..and ??? The crap (and I do mean CRAP) was nearly 2 FEET deep in some of the stalls. Took 7 people 3 1/2 hours...with a bucket loader tractor as well. :sad2: Absolutely disgusting.

And now for the "good news"? We get to go clean our barn now. Not NEARLY as bad. But my back is ready to be done. I'm definitely counting some of this toward my exercise total....."functional weight training"...that's what I call it :goodvibes

Tip o' the Day--

Find ways to squeeze exercise in during time that would otherwise be wasted. Some ideas/examples: if you have to bring your kid to an activity and have to wait while he/she does whatever it is, take the opportunity to go for a walk (or run) instead of just mindlessly gabbing with the other parents. There are always plenty of events for the gab-fest. Use this otherwise wasted time for YOU. Keep a gym bag in your car with extra sneakers and walking/exercise clothes so you don't have to do any advance planning. Or, just do what I do and always be dressed in fitness wear. Yes, really, I do this. I know.

-or- Commercial breaks, for those that watch tv, are about 2-3 minutes long. During the commercials, get down on the floor and do abs until the show comes back on. Or see how many times you can go up and down your stairs until the show comes back on...make it a game with yourself and see if you can "beat your own score" (can you see the competitiveness coming through? :lmao: ).

-or- (and this is my personal favorite...I do this type of stuff ALL the time...but I can get away with it since it is only in the privacy of my own home)...when I am in the kitchen getting dinner ready, there is invariably a minute hear or a minute there when I am waiting for the microwave to finish or waiting for something to be ready. And really, it is only going to be a minute so I don't want to leave the kitchen and go into another room and do something or whatever. So, I stand there...in my kitchen...and do squats or lunges until it is time to do whatever is next for the meal prep. Ya, I know, the visual....eesh. :lmao:

Ok, so what are your ideas for hidden times to exercise???

Lyz - look at you resisting temptation... I am soooo proud of you... I can't be trusted around pizza right now... I just want all the yummy goodness... I am trying to make exercise my drug right now, but I'm not quite there yet...

Goddess crown for you for dealing with all of that crap.... and definitly count it towards your goal...

Made it through training session number three... My trainer is happy with my progress so far and I am not sure if I should be scared or happy... happy that I am not as weak as I thought I was or scared about what is coming next...

OK - off to shower before I lose the ability to raise my arms...

Stacey - so proud of you for getting back on the wagon... I am reaching my arm out to help you up... really...

Paula
