In Search of my Body...Not The One I Ate.. #4 "Inspiring Others... 1 Tiara at a Time"

Amy, Dave, David, Kate, Tracy, Shannon, Roxy, Jim, Debra, Barb, Mandy, Cam, Stacie, Carrie, Becky, Jeff. I just need to say your names today. Run hard, run safe, run joyously. You are all in my heart these next few days. My team. Warriors, one and all.

 Erika. I printed off all your stuff last night and am all set to pick up your stuff.

Thanks to everyone for the good running thoughts! woke up this morning feeling totally awesome. No stomach ache, except for being super hungry!!

Dawn, so so sorry about the birthday present. There really are some crazy people out there.

Paula, if I come across the  eyes shirt, what size should I look for?

Challenge: Down 4 pounds since monday! :cool1: So I am at 191.5, 1 pound above what I was right before the holidays. And counting since last thursday, 4/5 days of exercise, so just a little short there.

Have a GREAT weekend everyone! I will hopefully check in a little from my crackberry when I finish the race!

Everybody is doing so GREAT on their challenges. :yay: We TOTALLY rock!

Congrats to all you "LOSERS" out there! I *cheated* and got on the scale today, even though I said I wasn't going to. And, it was as I had expected - my weight is the same. Not to worry though - that's precisely why I didn't chose to have a "pounds lost" part to my January challenge. I know why my weight stayed steady - and honestly I would have expected nothing different this week.

Amy - have fun tomorrow. And remember - we'll all be cheering for you! :cheer2:

For the challenge, I'm down .6 and exercised 0/4. Not the plan. No exercise. But I am eating thoughtfully, dangit.

hey. Down is better than up any day. Thoughtful eating is so very important. Take pride in that part :goodvibes

I really am sick this time ~ strep.

ahh...but at least with Strep you can get started on meds and kick it quick! ;)

I am totally loving reading about all of your week one challenge results. It is amazing what we are all accomplishing by pushing ourselves that much further. Keep going and keep doing what you are doing and we will all hit our goals.

Me too. I find it so motivating and inspiring. We are AMAZING :dance3:

Kat - you know I fell over when you said you RAN. I think there may be a bruise. :cool1:

:rotfl2:

It looks like my husband and his dad are going to Dublin to see my BIL.

 Liz - I really hope things work out well for all involved. So, so sorry that you all are going thru this

 Erika. I'm really sorry.

Only have a second, but wanted to check in. This morning was my weigh in. Down 2.5 lbs this week, 4 lbs total since 1/1 not as good as i wanted, but i'm still pretty happy! :cool1:

:confused3 WTH Stacey???? I'm cranky right now. But don't be doing that. You did fantastic. I know you said pretty happy but really. There might be weeks where you will be wishing for such wonderful results. Stop that. :flower3:

I almost typed, "well at least my family is safe and healthy" and then I had to stop myself. At least we are all alive. At least we all have hope. Hope, that I can hang my hat on.

It looks like my husband and his dad are going to Dublin to see my BIL. I spoke to my SIL yesterday for over an hour and it was very good to hear her perspective, but very sad, too. We had all decided last night that is is better to do something then nothing, although my MIL is surprisingly pessimistic. Or perhaps she thinks he's going to find his own way out of it. She seems to think he is doing/feeling better and happier and I don't buy that for one second. His life is essentially still in shambles. And oh, yeah. His wife wanted to come for Christmas. He was the one who told her not to. Now, that hit me like a ton of bricks.

 on the first paragraph.

And wow on the second. It's always important to hear everything, eh? I'm not even involved and I was shocked Liz. So ton of bricks for sure. I don't know the ins and outs, so no judgement on the BIL, but that would have killed me to hear "don't come". all around.

Dawn - sorry about Baylor. And  to Chad.

Amy - thinking of you! I'm smiling.

Cutie - you'll get the others, or the other, and you were down.:thumbsup2 Been missing you here. No BL?

Me - I'm on heavy intervals - probably until I live in one place - not two - so every other was my NY's on that. 6/2 was too much last year when on interval rotation. But definitely 6/2 when on every other rotation. So exercise is :thumbsup2. Bang on.

Food - hit and miss with the consciously. Mostly good. But very tired. Got to watch out for tired with the lack of consciously.

Weight - down 1.1 for challenge and BL. Pleased. I was up from December 12th weigh in but going to let that go. I exercised throughout the holidays. All good.

I am so much easier on myself. And that's fantastic in itself. And that's because of all my hard work to let things go and just flow. Yeah for me.

At least we all have hope. Hope, that I can hang my hat on.

It looks like my husband and his dad are going to Dublin to see my BIL.

Sending good vibes your direction and over the wata.

:Challenge: Down 4 pounds since monday! :cool1:

Great news about the poundage! For everyone. There are alot of losers today.

Amy - have fun and run your butt off.

Liz - I've got to get off this. I'm still thinking about the plane. Geez. So the entire time he didn't say a peep so you all thought, as you would, that she said something to the effect of , "I'm not coming to see your family for Christmas because we're struggling" or something like that?

My God, if all of that is correct, that's pretty selfish of your BIL not to clarify at all.

No drama for 2009 and I'm getting myself involved. ;) :surfweb: Oh boy. I don't know - just really hit me hard. I guess because I was feeling so much for him.

Yep. I was so feeling for him for his wife refusing to come. That's it. That's why I'm POed.

Maybe they have two different perspectives on how it played out. I hope so,. Okay, done for now.

Amy - I am so excited for you to run!

Kat - you know I fell over when you said you RAN. I think there may be a bruise. :cool1:

Kelly - Stay warm.

Steph - The Stefans thing cracks me up. Have you ever asked his mom what she was thinking with the extra "s"?

Dawn - your point is right on - no one was hurt and you are all safe and healthy. What else can we ask for, really?

Oh, wait. Less drama. Can I have less drama, please? :rotfl:

I almost typed, "well at least my family is safe and healthy" and then I had to stop myself. At least we are all alive. At least we all have hope. Hope, that I can hang my hat on.

Anyhoo...

Challenge. I started this Wednesday. So tracking for 2 days. And three days of exercise. So I am on target for my 4x a week. And tracking. Weigh in next Wednesday.

Is the bruise on your bummocks??

So with you on the drama. Putting all of your energy into dwelling on the bad things in life just brings you down, and when it is totally out of your control it only makes it worse. One of my resolutions this year is to only focus on positive things, or on the negative things that I can control (like my weight, fitness levels).

Amy, 4 lbs!! Wow! Will be thinking of you tomorrow, can't wait for pics and a TR!

Stacey, congrats on the loss.

E,

LisaV, Hi!! Congrats on your 1.1. Did you join BL again? I feel like I haven't "talked" to you in ages...

LisaRunner, sounds like you are a distance gal. Not a bad thing!!

I have questions about making the biggest bang for your caloric buck.

What is a breading low in calories but crisps well for fish? We usually have fish deep fried and breaded and well that just isn't on the agenda anymore. I'd like to introduce fish, but I cannot set down a piece of baked tilapia without some kind of breading.

I am struggling to come up with dinners that my husband/family can eat alot of and be filling at the same time.

Like last night we had bbq'd chicken breasts. 220 calories for the chicken, and 30 for the bbq sauce. 250 per piece total. I ate one piece for dinner. Hubs ate 3. (Which by the way, at 6'2" and very active is way under his bmr. His limit is 2400.) I've got him eating around 2000 a day for weight loss. Yesterdays example: I'm packing his lunch in the morning, and it's around 690 calories. He still has 1310 left for dinner. He had 750 in chicken, 100 in brocolli, 140 baked potato, and 210 in peas. Air popped popcorn for a snack.

Ham steak is tonight. (And I'm looking into bean soup. I know the fiber is good, just not sure yet of calories. Off to find a recipe.)

I still have to fill up the rest of the week and he is totally picky. Chicken - he barely chokes down. We are a red meat, potato and bread family. So cutting out dinner rolls is also important but hard. Do you know of a low cal bread option other than a slice of Heiners 35?
I could make dinner rolls at 120 calories a piece and just have one, but that is not the reality. I have 3. Because they are there.

Hopefully you guys can offer some options I haven't thought of taking into consideration the above.

: Cutie - No BL?

Lisa - I am doing BL, kinda removed. I'm going to weigh in today. (It IS today?) But I can't try to follow that thread. I can barely follow this one.

Yes, I understand the tired right now. Babysteps for me.

Kat - very good advice. I'm going to take it.

Liz - I will do some recipe research for you on options that fit into your family's diet. My sister is a real picky eater so my mom is a good resource...

Liz - sending you hugs... You are the type of person who takes everyone's issues on as your own (something I totally love you for - you have such compassion that it is overwhelming), but please remember to take some time for you... You can't help anybody if you don't help yourself first. Take care my friend... mkay...

Nancy - loved your post to Stacey...

Stacey - be proud of those 2+pounds lost girl... they were hard fought for...

Kat - still can't believe you ran... you are going to make the rest of us look bad.

OK - have to run (big boss just walked into the office). I'll post the rest of my replies in a bit.

Paula

:confused3 WTH Stacey???? I'm cranky right now. But don't be doing that. You did fantastic. I know you said pretty happy but really. There might be weeks where you will be wishing for such wonderful results. Stop that. :flower3:

Yep. Lisa's right. Again.

Stacey....

Try to visualize 2.5 pounds of fat. While not a true comparison, I typically think in terms of butter. 2.5 pounds of fat....thats TEN STICKS OF BUTTER. Go to your fridge, take out the butter and place 10 sticks on your body. That's what you lost.

2.5 pounds is FABULOUS, now isn't it! :confused3

One of my resolutions this year is to only focus on positive things, or on the negative things that I can control (like my weight, fitness levels).

Words to live by. Eliminating all the toxic bad stuff...really helps me emotionally, which in turn helps physically. It's a GOOD cycle! :goodvibes

What is a breading low in calories but crisps well for fish?

I have a recipe for chicken tenders...uses oats. The first time I made it I thought for SURE I was going to get the "ick" comments...but they all love it. :thumbsup2 Don't know how well that would translate to fish...but perhaps if you ran some oats thru the blender or food processor (or even left them whole if you thought they'd go for it) and start by mixing them into your regular breading? Sort of *trick* the family into switching to something healthier? :confused3

I am struggling to come up with dinners that my husband/family can eat alot of and be filling at the same time.

I'm lucky...I only have one picky eater, and now that he's 15 (almost 16!) and ALWAYS hungry, even HE has started to get just about anything that isn't nailed down!

So cutting out dinner rolls is also important but hard.

Mine all like bread too. I just try to have only a fixed "per-person" amount..freeze it, save it (ie HIDE it while preparing dinner so they don't know there's MORE somewhere)...and I often skip it. It's hard sometimes...but if I look at food in terms of "calorie cost", it's not worth it to me...

It can be HARD to ask for help. But if you are straight up with your family...tell them that "here's the deal"...if they want bread, they have to HELP you. Get one of the girls to put it on the table, and put the rest away. Have some one else deal with the leftovers after dinner. My feeling is, I'm not the only one who EATS the food, why should I be the only one who does all the WORK day after day after day. I'm their mother, not their slave.

(whoo. Gettin' myself worked up! I didn't intead to take it in that direction  I'll stop now)

Weigh in today: 244 so I am down 4 pounds from last week (I believe it was at 248) but more excitingly for me personally is that roughly on the 27th or so in December...I was back up to 251...and I about choked on my own tongue..those pounds are like magnets....and I am a big ole Frigidaire...

The other is I had no POP at all...made everyone including my sisters order water at the restraunt last night...allowed myself 2 pieces, 1 breadstick and a piece of cake...had about 1822 calories yesterday which is over my amount...but under if I had not been concious of what I was eating...and I had my 8 glasses of water all week....

Excersize was only 2x...wanted to go last night but did not after Baylor's present garbage...

So this week I hope to make up for that...excersize foccussed and start the couch to 5k program....

Need to foccus on the good like liz said...and I am proud of all I did this wek and determined to make next week better towards myself...

BTW...looking at wedding dresses...so I can put them up for motivation...I ain't wearing no stinkin mumu...

We are not getting married in Tonga for cryin in da beer ya know...(said with da Minnesooooda accent like in Fargo....:lmao:

Tip O the Day from Dawn:

Watching the Today show got some great advice:

#1 Double up on non starch veggies at dinner to avoid snacking late at night.

#2 Everytime you are going to snack, have an extra of, tear a piece off from something, pick an item off your kids dish, tear their crust off cause they wont eat it and stuff it in your trap, lick a spoon off, take a handful of...etc..etc...etc...

Get a zip lock baggie and put all those non full concious eating foods in a bag...and at the end of the week...see how much you would have stuffed in your mouth by not paying attention. One lady who was at like 530...is down to 200 now from doing both of those things to her diet....and a bit more I know...but the amount was sickening...

She used to eat 1 baked potato each night losing weight on her own...and when she saw how big the bowl of potatoes was she ate in a month..she could not believe it...the punds of starch she consumed...

The zip lock bag from just 2 days...was half full and it was a freezer big bag.

Maybe we could do that for a challenge...it would be fun to post pics up of our "Omitted Bag O' Cr@p"....

They also said there are items now (Presto made the one they raved about) that can put reg. popcorn into the microwave to air pop...obviously a huge calorie savor from greasy reg microwave popcorn...

Again..adding parmesean cheese and black pepper etc to popcorn for a lighter than butter flavor filler...they had a bunch of snack ideas today....

Ok...wanted to post something helpful....

Don't do any internet searches, I can do that. I want to know what you guys already do that I hadn't thought of. Yes, ask your mom, thanks Paula.

Yes, I need to do that. Only make enough for right then and get help.

WOO HOO on all of the losses and challenge success stories! LOVE IT!

I will post a re-cap later tonight. I won't be on much today...by choice. Tough day for me here,.

But I did want to address Dawn's question from a few days ago about how to report the challenge results...

Basically, I would say this is a weekly thing (as in, if you want to "bank" your exericse into next week just so that you can get your exercise in, I think that is great...but I wouldn't count that as part of the challenge).

Here's why...I have committed to 1500 minutes of exercise for the month. Technically, I could blow off the first 3 weeks of the month, and then during the last week just do 4 hours a day or something and make my goal. But is that really healthy? Is that the right way to do it? Of course not.

So, count how YOU want to count...not me. But just think in terms of the big picture and making a lifestyle you can live with.

Liz, I cook fish on the stove with a little EVOO and then put salsa on it and when it is done, I take mine out and put some cheese on the rest for the family. Even the kids like it this way. Takes some of the fishiness out of it.

I make my own bread and the recipe is pretty easy and fairly healthy, note I said fairly because it is still bread.

Sometimes it is easier to leave the fully cooked meal in the kitchen and make up plates for everyone from there. Then seconds are way back in the kitchen and not as accessible for everyone. This may not work for your family but the only one in my house who will get back up is Mike....and sometimes Shelby if it is her favorite meal.

We eat a lot of beef here but it is because we raise our own and it is Charlais beef with not much fat or mottling in the meat. It cooks up pretty clean and I have to add crushed Wasi crackers to the hamburgers to make them stay together. Hence, I am not much help here but I am sure others have some great recipes. My family is not picky kids included. I run the you eat what I make kind of household and they can complain all they want, but this is dinner.

I am interested to get some answers on this one!!

Dawn, great tips and yes, the bag of crap would be funny to see. I usually just drink a big glass of water so mine might look like a fish should be in the bag!!!! :lmao:

Lyz, I will try to think about what we cook here.

BTW, Stacy, am I spelling your name right? Is there an E? I hate to get it wrong.

Liz, Lyz, Steph and Steph... Stacey or Stacy, Amy and Aimee and Lisa PR and Lisa V....oh, my! And EriKa!

So to Aimee, Amy, Lisa V, Stacy...who am I missing? All you WEIGHT losers! Whoo to the hoo!!! :cool1:

Lisa V, you asked a good question. Basically, he said that she wasn't coming and gave a BS response - she had work, family etc. We thought it was so bad SHE decided not to come. But now we have found out that he ASKED her not to come. So it was his decision not hers for her not to be with us at Christmas. And that makes me mad. Because he's shut her out.

In the end, his life is his life and we will support his decisions. But don't end your MARRIAGE like this. And if you're not ending your marriage, but taking time for yourself, fine. But do it with love and compassion.

That is what my husband and FIL are going there to say. Interestingly, my MIL is kind of clueless. Like, she is all "He seems happier" oh, well who cares? He's still behaving in the same way and that is not ok.

There's a bigger problem there, but I don't think it's about the marriage.

So flippin' sighing. I"ve got to leave this alone. Liz - sighing, sighing, sighing,

Take your hands off the keyboard Lisa. Do it. :lmao: ;) to you Liz.

Lyz - oh me too. I can not even keep uo. I've given up. It will get better. My first BL it was one thread too. And it got better as time went. People simply disappear. My second BL we were in teams so it was easy to do here and there. Well, not easy. Here was always my priority but I could do it. Now, nope.

I'm happy to have you there. Oh no glasses. Can't read what I'm typing. Thank God for grade nine typing. Yes, I'm that old. You know where some female high schoolers said in the yearbook - I want to be a legal secretary. :rotfl: Not that there is anything wrong with a secretary. Nothing. I was at the cusp of all the possibilities of life. Work, motherhood, university - whatever YOU wanted. All to most of my friends went on in school. Fantastic time to grow up. Seventies/Eighties. Such changes. And happy music. You can put down eighties music but so happy. Even the darkness of some lyrics had an up beat. Okay back to regular programming. - Yes, it is today Lyz. And you're the reason I signed back up. You say it as it is. And you said - back on the scale Lisa. So thanks.

So funny - Girls Just Want To Have Fun just came on. Two funny. :rotfl: Grade ten gym class. She let us play music. God love her. Happy beat with "mama we're not the fortunate ones". Eighties.

Dawn - congrats you.

Congrats to all of us.

Thanks Erika for all your work.

Nancy - I so thank God for you. I am becoming nicer to me. And you've helped that. You facing it too. Thank you Nancy.

Don't do any internet searches, I can do that. I want to know what you guys already do that I hadn't thought of. Yes, ask your mom, thanks Paula.[/B][/COLOR]

I wasn't planning on doing the internet search, but my family and friend recipe search. Between my mom, a few aunts and my friend who is in the food service industry, there are plenty of options.

One question though - do you cook in a crock pot at all? Lots of good options for that, but I'll hold off if you don't use one.

Let me know,
Paula

E - good call on the Q&A...and you are totally right...steady...not splurge is best mentality...work in front not behind the 8 ball so to speak...

I am thinking of you today....

Liz - never asked - had you visited Ireland before? Not sure if it is your husbands 1st time there or if you had gone as a couple...sad time to go and also sad to not experience things for the first time together....glad your husband cares enough about his brother to make sure he has his head on straight regardless of the decession...not too many guys will step out of there comfort zone to show their emotions to another guy...regardless of how they know each other...
