DH pays a toll to and from work every day which he uses the EZPass for.

I have had it classified as Misc, but I think that there should be a better category for it. Suggestions?

:)

In Microsoft Money, I think there is an Automobile:Tolls Category.
I would think that it would be very easy to add a new Category and Sub-Category ......

Transportation?

Thanks! My category is called "Auto" so I just didn't think that it fit. I think that I will rename it "Transportation" and that will make me feel better. :)

I put "tolls" as a sub-catagory of Auto. I have also have Auto:Fuel and Auto:Service.

We use Auto

Auto - Fuel
Auto - Maintenance
Auto - Tolls

My first thought was Auto or Transportation, as well.

Though, if he has to do it for work, maybe employment or work expenses?

Sorry Beth. It is a commuting expense, and commuting expenses are not deductible.

Sorry Beth. It is a commuting expense, and commuting expenses are not deductible.

It depends on how the EZ pass is used. That's why I said Travel Expenses. I was tild by my tax accountant that if you are simply commuting from home to work, those expeses cannot be deducted.

If you travel, looking for work, or travel between places as part of work, then they would constitute as Travel expenses and can be deducted.

You cannot simply call it Transportation, because again, not all the transportation you do is for work. You can only deduct auto expenses if the auto is used exclusively for work.
