I'n NOT happy.....

i just read that.
the policy changed so quickly. i received an update today regarding the luggage.

since my flight scheduled changed from the original, united changed my date to a later date. i fall into the realm now of paying for a second bag but not the first checked bag. that's a good thing.

i guess too many complained about the additional charge and they finally amended it.

goes to show there is power in numbers..........:rolleyes1

my flight date isn't until october so maybe more changes will be forthcoming.

nah....wasn't worth the hassle for $60 ... besides, would have had to FLY by Jan. 9th....not happenin'...

ive been able to sell my leftover SW credits (after i've used the portion i need) for close to 90% on ebay:smokin:

stinks that what i consider to be legacy carriers are cutting back on customer care:mad:

worry that while i enjoy flying AT & SW, afraid that they may just put the rest of the competition out of business with their low fares. Once their locked in fuel prices cease, then they'll be the gorilla/monopoly of sorts:rolleyes1

mac - i emailed http://airconsumer.ost.dot.gov/problems.htm
@ suggestion of peeps on the transportation board when AT tried to slip thru the charge for 2nd bag for travel booked before the change in policy...have my reply email in hand for trip next week. The one from AirTran, indicated we could bring 2 bags - no problem.

Not sure if i'll need 2 bags, but always take one to avoid the dreaded airport shuffle to get those bags under #50 jik they're over, nice to have an empty bag to throw junk in to easily come under the limit.;)

anyway, can't hurt to file a complaint & see what happens::yes::

Now you need to work on getting United to drop the $2 for a water bottle!

1. What are the results of EPA's sampling of aircraft in 2004?

During the summer of 2004, EPA conducted water quality sampling of one or more galley water taps, water fountains or lavatory faucets on each of 158 aircraft at 7 airports. As EPA announced in September 2004, 12.7% of those aircraft (20 aircraft) were found to be positive for the presence of total coliform bacteria.

During November-December of 2004, EPA conducted a second round of water quality sampling of 169 aircraft at 12 airports. This second round of monitoring sought water samples from galley water taps as well as lavatory faucets for each aircraft. EPA found that 17.2% of these aircraft (29 aircraft) were total-coliform-positive.

Of the aircraft sampled by EPA in this second round of sampling, 76.3% were US-based. For this round of sampling, the results for foreign-based or US-based aircraft were relatively close. Of the 40 foreign-based carriers sampled during this round, 17.5% (7 aircraft) were total-coliform-positive. By comparison, of the 129 US-based aircraft sampled during this round, 17.1% (22 aircraft) were total-coliform-positive.

Overall, adding together the results of the first and second rounds of EPA sampling of aircraft, EPA has sampled 327 aircraft in 2004. Overall, 15.0% of the aircraft sampled were found to be total-coliform-positive. Overall, 4.3% of the galleys or water fountains sampled were found to be total-coliform-positive; 14.0% of the lavatory faucets sampled were found to be total-coliform-positive. Overall, 49 aircraft were found to be total-coliform-positive. Overall, 76.8% of the aircraft sampled by EPA in this second round of sampling were US-based, and 23.2% of the aircraft. Of the 76 foreign-based carriers sampled overall, 19.7% were total-coliform-positive. By comparison, of the 251 US-based aircraft sampled, 13.5% were total-coliform-positive.

Well, I'm booked for my CO date.

And I got a $15 discount! Which will be applied to my checked baggage, of course.

At least you're not flying with pets!:cat:

jik anybody has SW already booked & is looking for some LUV;)

noticed this on the DING site yesterday

We are getting ready to celebrate 37 years of flying. On Wednesday, get ready for some limited timed offers, as our gift to you!

not sure if it's much ado about nothing:confused3

Out of curiosity I checked our October flights on SW just now, and the flight down has gone UP in price, while the flight home is the same. I guess they are celebrating charging more :rotfl:

The first Ding this morning didn't have any impressive rates, were only good up til the end of August, and didn't have any flights included between Kansas City and Orlando.:(

Southwest's rates do change frequently. Some day to day. They have frequent specials so you have to watch their site daily to get your best deal. However, if you do buy a more expensive one and later see a cheaper SW deal, call them up. Their CS folks will hold your existing before trying to get the cheaper rate and you'll have a credit with them for later. Not as good as cash refund but just about as good.

Also, they still allow 2 bags free of charge and give out peanuts and soft drinks for free.

Lastly, changes are free on all tickets, not just full fare ones. No $75+ fees for changing to another SW flight.

They may not be perfect but at least they're better than most.

Actually, you don't have to call them to change your flight and get a credit, you can do it all on their site, I have done it at least 8 times in the past 3 years, and have never talked to anyone to do it. I know Barb has done it a few times as well as others on here. I personally only fly with SW from Philly to Orlando and back.

Here is the page where you would start

http://www.southwest.com/travel_center/changeItinerary.html

With our credits from last October changes, our flight down just a month ago cost us $28, for my wife and I!!! I love SW :cool1:

i would do sw to fly with but it is too darn far for me to get to.

i use the airport, o'hare, west of the city.

midway is south of the city.
last time i used midway airport was back in 1996, car service was well over $100 for one way. that is when ata was strong. it takes me about an hour and 20 minutes to get there.

my only options are mitchell field in milwaukee which is a 50 minute drive or o'hare, same time drive and distance from my home.

jet blue moved into o'hare but no non stops to orlando for me.
i have a layover in DC then.

This whole thread makes me sad for all the flyers. When we lived in AL, it was equal time to drive or fly if you include the entire airport experience, so we decided to drive. Less hassle, more control over the situation you're in, and time to talk to each other. Now we only live 10 hours from Orlando, so we'll probably never fly there again.

I really feel for everybody who lives too far from Orlando to have a fun or semi-affordable drive or flight. I hardly ever see my family out west for that very reason. And I thought it was bad BEFORE the big gas crunch....
