In loving memory of... The Yard of Beer

No Epcot has never had YARD'S only half yards. And trust me I dont think they would be carrying Full Yards around. They are 3 ft tall. But if you are reffering to the Half Yards and there dissappearance then I am greatly sadden. I always have a Half Yard of Guinness at UK. And that is just about the only drink I get.

And yes you could get refills at a discounted price. Dont remember the price though.

I'm glad they got rid of them. No need to visit a family park with everyone getting sloshed on one or more of these things. The people who don't have any self-control or think they're "cool" drinking these things and getting sloshed have messed it up for everyone else. I'm glad Disney made the portions smaller. It could be worse, they could stop serving alcohol altogether (which would be fine by me), but there's too much profit and too many people that would get fired up about it. Yay for smaller portions.:snooty:

No they just got rid of the larger portion so that makes you buy more smaller ones and that just puts even more $$ in Disney pocket.

And as far as I know, Disney is the only one to offer a alcholess in being the MK. Every other family park I have been to across the USA has served liquor. Heck who do thinks own's several of the parks? Thats right good ole BUDWEISER. And in all reality we are only talking about one park(EPCOT). I guess my suggestion would be visit early and stay away from the Food and Wine Festival if you are trying to avoid the drunkerds.

This is really disapointing. I'm gonna miss my 1/2 yards of Stella in 2 weeks.:sad2:

:confused3 Smaller portions won't stop anything. The same people who were getting obnoxiously drunk will still be doing it. They'll just be doing it with smaller cups. Removing alcohol all together would not be the answer either. That would hurt all the 1000's of people who have a good time without getting stupid. The answer is better security to kick those few out that do cause problems.

^^^^^^Must be related to the poster who called those that like to have a drink at Epcot 'Commoners'

Seriously though, how bad is it to go for a nice meal and a couple of drinks with a plan that involves someone else doing the driving (bus, ferry, cab, monorail, take your pick). Sad to hear of its demise, didnt make it that far around the WS this past trip, had to settle for my $8 margarita.

I'll miss the half yards too. Since they're plastic we drag them home and use them by the pool. WL used to have them too.

I've never had one, but, I do remember seeing full yards inside the Rose & Crown. I think December 2004 was the last time we ate there. The glass (I think it was glass) sat in a stand on the floor. I don't think I'd have the coordination to drink the last foot. :rotfl2:
I hope Disney doesn't do away with the liter steins in Germany next! :scared1:

OMG :scared1: My husband will be soo dissapointed!! That was one of his favorite parts of the park!!

I'm more of the disney freak then he is.. he just goes along with it to make me happy lol.

And the WORST part is that we just moved in August and I asked him if we should take it with us, he said just dump it, he will just get another one next time we go down.. I threw away a piece of disney history!! GAH!!

It's really ashame though.. a few thousand people who don't know how to control their liquor intake kills it for millions..:headache:

That is very dissapointing and really kind of silly.

The half yard was 28 ounces of beer. Okay, more than a 20oz pint, but not THAT much more. Furthermore, i DID buy the glass last time and used it a few times during the length of our stay ( we were at the BCV, so right next to Epcot ) and was hoping to see if I could use it again. Guess not :(

As for no drinking at Epcot. A) I agree that if they want to cancel out the yard because of "drunks" then why still have alcohol at all And WHY ON EARTH open a Tequila bar in Mexico!??! ( HARD ALCOHOL?! ). And B) World Showcase is about different cultures, and like it or not, alcohol palys a big part in many cultures ( wine in Italy and France, beer in Germany and UK ).

That all kind of bums me out :(

I thought it was only 24oz?:confused3

When I got back home, I poured two 12oz Heinekens in it to see how much it held and it was full.

Oh yeah, maybe you're right, which only further proves my points that the half-yard is NOT "drunken alcoholic inducing" ... it's a novelty. Now you want drunken alcoholic enducing, look at the Tequila bar being built in Mexico, or how about the 1-liter steins filled with 8% Doppelbock at Biergarten ( oh dear, I've said too much, hope Disney isn't reading this :S )

It will only be a matter of time when drinking a beer at WDW will be a thing of the past. :sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

Nooooooooooooo!

Disney, I'd like to make a suggestion: The Yard of Margarita!

Goodness! I'll second that!!!

My guess is that it is a lot cheaper to buy a million of the same steins to use everywhere instead of the 1/2 yards...regardless of what a CM said. It always comes down to money. As long as they keep the bass I don't care if they hand it to me in a ziploc baggie.

BTW, the first time I went to epcot we had pints and *1/2* pints of bass in glass mugs...are those long gone? those 1/2 pint mugs were the cutest damn things :lmao:
