In loving memory of... The Yard of Beer

OK so I probably missed the discussion over this but - the yard is officially off the bar menu in the UK! Apparently the alcoholics of the world descended on Epcot and ruined it for the rest of us. What is wrong with people?

I'm not sure of the exact date, but we're known about it I would say for 1 month now. They were there as of November 2006 but that was the last time we bought one. Can you even believe it??

We just got back yesterday, and yup, they're gone! Brother was VERY disappointed! There was a thread about this not too long ago - supposedly there were two reasons being floated around - 1:too many people getting drunk (not buying that one); 2: health concerns regarding the refilling of the glasses from the tap. Who knows?

The unofficial excuse I got from three CMs working the cart was too many drunks who started their DATW adventures in Mexico and became too rowdy and obnoxious come the yard of beer.

Very same night - I still saw a group of obnoxious drunks right after the UK pavilion, ruining my Illuminations by screaming in each other's ears (apparently they thought they were whispering) about the globe and how it made no sense - and that convo lasted until the show was over . So taking away the yard isn't going to take away the fact that some people don't know how to hold their liquor. It just means that I'll be holding mine in a 12 oz stein - that costs the same amount. BOO!

I'm so bummed about this! It was a yearly tradition for my husband & I and his sister & her husband to leave all the kids with the grandparents one night, each get a yard of beer, and enjoy Epcot. What a drag!

The Yard of Beer was gone in the first week of September, maybe end of August. I tried to buy one as part of my drinking around the world, done over a few days, and they told me they had discontinued it. Of course they told me something even more special was on it's way to replace the Yard of Beer...I guess they were wrong.

Bill - possibly you may be talking about the "stein of beer" that is 12 oz? The stein itself is a souvenier. Definitely not as snazzy.

Yea, that's probably what the CM was talking about when he said something "better" was replacing the Yard of Beer. They hadn't gotten the steins yet when I was there.

Thanks for showing the pictures. My husband wil be soooooo disappointed! In fact, that was one of my selling points in getting him to travel with our son and I to Disney! Better buy the Stein and keep him happy (lol)!

What?! I didn't even notice this when I was there in early Nov, but dh and I like getting the half-yard when we visit together.
I think the pics posted are of the half-yard. Those are the glasses we have.
