In Celebration of (Disney) Food! 4/29 Monorail Dinner Pt. 2 (Kona)

Going to have to go during out trip! I thought they stopped serving the fondue. It doesn't show on the menu online.

Oh, that may be possible. We were there September 2013 so the menu may have changed. I haven't seen any recent reports of the Territory Lounge menu so it may have been discontinued.

Beautiful photos, I especially like the Spaceship Earth one :)

What a cute idea of snacking round the monorail, you'll probably start a trend :thumbsup2

I loved that one too! I'm was just kind of clicking around with the camera and didn't realize until I was looking at them on the computer later that I had caught it mirrored in the lagoon.

I think we will make a tradition of snacking around the monorail, it was so much fun and so neat to hop from a Victorian hotel to a Pacific Northwestern forest to (coming up) a tropical island. Plus we got to try lots of new places and foods!

Monorail Dinner, Part Two: Kona Cafe

After our visit to the Territory lounge, we took the boat launch back to the Contemporary and continued around the monorail to the Polynesian.

Our final stop would be:

Kona Cafe!

We love Kona Cafe for breakfast and are big fans of Tonga Toast, but we had never eaten here for lunch or dinner. I think the lunch menu looks great and we would love to try it, but something else always seems to win out. We took a look over the appetizers on the menu and settled on an order of the sticky wings, a press pot of coffee and and a lava roll from the Kona Island Sushi bar.

First out was a loaf of sweet bread with macadamia honey butter. This alone was worth a visit! I must confess we went through two loaves of this- it was so light and fluffy, warm and sweet. Definitely the best bread service we've had in Disney and possibly anywhere! I love the bread at Ohana and this was even better, likely because it was so fresh.

DF and DM also got their press pot of coffee which they said was the best coffee of the trip.

After we had devoured our bread, the sticky wings arrived.

You can't really tell from the photo, but this was a huge serving! DF loves wings and he said they were great. I loved the sauce, it was sweet and lightly tangy with some extra crunch from the sesame seeds. The wings were nice and crispy but still juicy inside with lots of meat. These are a great appetizer choice, especially if you're sharing.

The luau roll arrived last.

I ordered this hoping it would be similar to the Spicy Kazan Roll at the California Grill. While it wasn't quite in the same league as the sushi at CG, it was very good. It was quite spicy, but creamy sauce and tempura crumbles were so good that the spice didn't stop me at all from enjoying this. DF also gave it two thumbs up, commenting that the tempura was still nice and crispy and the scallops tasted really fresh. There was a lot of seafood in this roll.

I had hoped to try the Kilauea Torte (again, hoping to find a substitute for the chocolate lava cake at California Grill) but we were so full at this point I knew there was no way I would be able to enjoy it.

And so, we finished up as many wings as we could and took the monorail one more stop home. We had such a fun time on our monorail tour and will absolutely add all three restaurants to our future rotation. My personal favourite was Kona, which DF agrees with but DM gave a slight edge to the Territory Lounge.

It was such a lovely relaxing evening and a great way to "sightsee" the Magic Kingdom resort area at a slower pace while enjoying great food.

Next up: Biergarten lunch!
