In-A-Gadda-Da-Eata - Dining Report 7/27/08 - 8/2/08 w/ Pics - Updated 9/2

because I actually owned a vinyl disc (we called them "records" ;) ) of In-a-gadda-da-vida. It lasted 28 minutes and word on the street was that, if you played it at 78 (those are RPMs) you saw GOD!!! Ah the good old days!!!

BTW love the reviews!!!

Hmmm - too old to remember my name!!!!:rotfl2:

The inside of the wrap consisted of chicken, shredded cheese, tomatoes, lettuce and ranch dressing. Tweedle dee did not like his at all and pretty much just ate his fries, cheese sauce, and cookie. I on the other hand thought it was pretty darn tasty ...but then again, I would each ranch like soup if it was socially acceptable.

A woman I can truly relate to! I'm in! :thumbsup2

I remember this too, yep I'm old....:rotfl:

I completely understand your frustrations with the Tweedle's. We too are childless and when we took our nieces (then age 3 and 9) I cried the entire first day, nothing was going as planned and they were driving us nuts! We took them to Chef Mickeys and they did not eat anything. What food I did put on their plate they didnt like, the food was pretty terrible.

The rest of the trip I turned into my mother with quotes like "Because I said so" "I dont care if you have to pee or not you are going to try" and the best one that had DH laughing at me was "You will do it and you will like it and we are going to have a good time if it kills us"

And I agree about H&V, awful food!

Looks like I made the right decision in avoiding H&V. I debated the Fantasmic package, but instead we just got there real early and waited. Hubby had never been and we sat so close that he actually got a little wet at one point. OOPS! Great pic from the show!

WARNING: Do not read this post if you are adversely affected by buffets, a 1/2 eaten plate of food, or happy people, as it contains all of the above. BWAAHAHHAAAA.

Tuesday AM we had ADR's at Chef Mickey's. The plan was to take the bus from AKL to Epcot, get a FPs for Soarin, head over to Chef Mickey's via the monorail for a 10:15 breakfast, and then back to Epcot for Soarin', etc. But, given the ninth level of hell that was the previous evening (never again H&V, never again) and how tired everyone was...when our wake up call came in, I thought about getting up but instead said to David "I am thinking of canceling breakfast. Let's see if we can do something else instead."

He was shocked that I, of all people, would cancel an ADR. And even suggesting a deviation from the excel spreadsheet plan I had spent weeks developing was an offense typically punishable by stoning. But deviate I did. I said bye bye to the spreadsheets and sayonara to my detailed itineraries....I was going to the dark side and who knew where this loosey-goosey, fly-by-the-seat-of-my-pants behavior might get me. It might be the gateway drug to harder stuff such as FP abuses, chanting during parades and fireworks, and drinking around the world. Or it might lead to something better....like Boma for breakfast!

I was amazed at how simple it was to get in there for breakfast. I picked up the phone and pressed the button for dining. Soon we had a 10 AM ADR for Boma and had canceled our Chef Mickey's ADR. I let the boys sleep in for awhile and we then leisurely strolled downstairs for what would be one of the dining highlights of the trip.

Breakfast is the Tweedles version of kryponite. They were powerless against the yumminess that is Boma. Suddenly, they were transformed into stuffed and cheerful individuals. This would be a good day. (As an aside, it would be awesome if you could get breakfast for dinner somewhere. If you are what you eat, I would be ranch dressing and bacon. Mmmm...ranch and bacon.)

Tweedle Dee went up and just went to one station. He didn't look anywhere else and was surprised when we returned with muffins, cereal, etc. Of course, he didn't get up to get anything else. And yes, his plate is 1/2 eaten. By the time everyone else returned to the table (about 30 seconds after him) he had broken the world record for quickest eating time. So this is all that is left, and I think it is a valuable photo (of half eaten food!!!!!!!!) because it shows how much he enjoyed breakfast there.

Tweedle Dum didn't quite get the concept of buffets yet. He didn't realize that you can go back and get more. Instead he filled his plate up as though they were running a special on aisle 9 and if he didn't stock up he would be SOL.

David and I loved our breakfasts. I must have had 3 bowls of pap, which I did not take a picture of. For those not in the know, pap is pretty much grits. A very creamy version of grits. And I went all Augustus Gloop on it.

David enjoyed his. A lot.

We also got a few muffins and pastries. They were so good. Below is the chocolate chip muffin, the blueberry muffin, and a cinnamon roll thing that has pecans on it.

On a negative note, our server . . . George . . . not so great. We were frequently out of drinks, and the place wasn't that crowded. I am also not used to those paper straws. I know why they have them, and I don't like drinking out of the glass...so I used the staw. But it was strange from a texture standpoint.

So the day had started off good. We were all full. I had my coffee, which is essential to all life functions. And now we were off to AK instead of Epcot. Throwing away my plan for the day (and the rest of the week, since we had to now shuffle around or park visiting days) made me feel like such a bad girl. It was like I was now one of the Pink Ladies hanging out with the Greasers, and who knew what would happen...but I was FINALLY having fun.

Oh and our room issue? Fixed. Not only did we get our 2 queen beds, but AKL was also kind enough to give us a savanna view (ok it was a savanna/construction view...but the construction wasn't bad and the animals were awesome!)

Omigod Boma, it is my favorite meal ever! We love it and I could eat breakfast here every day of my life! Yay we are going 2 weeks from this Sunday and I cannot almost taste it!

a planner aborting her well made, well laid out plans!:faint:

:lmao: you had me scared for a minute, the OCD disney planner in me was having a panic attack!!:lmao:

So I am glad to see that all worked out, we, on my well made, well laid out plans:rotfl: have Boma for breakfast scheduled so I was glad to see all went well there for you guys!:yay:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE breakfast and that just looks so good. I'm going to have to see if we can figure out a way to get in a Boma breakfast on our next trip.

BTW, awesome reviews and I love the way you tell it! I can't wait to read more and was so excited that work slowed down enough for a mid-morning posting.

I am so proud that you dumped the Excel Sheet and Flew by the Seat of Your(Boma) Pants!

The first trip I took after discovering this board was totally over-planned and Commando style. We ended up at 50's PTC exhausted one night and most of the trip was less fun than it could have been because I was so obsessed with keeping up with my schedule. I never did leave the schedule though and it would have been so much better if I have. I am weening myself off the commando approach.

I love the nicknames for your brothers. I can't wait to hear how the rest of the trip went.

Thank you for taking the time to share.

I am loving your report and pics, even the half eaten food. But I don't understand about the paper straws? :confused3

But I don't understand about the paper straws? :confused3

AKL doesn't allow plastic straws. I shouldn't say doesn't allow, I'm sure if you bring them from home they won't take them away. But they do not have them in the restaurants. I guess the fear is the plastic could end up on the savanna and harm the animals.

Because of this they have paper straws. Also in the Mara there are no plastic lids for the Sodas. The paper straws really are paper, I don't even think they have wax on them. By the end of a meal they are pretty soft. They have an interesting texture.

I'm enjoying the sense of humor.

It is also making me rethink the offer DW and I made to her 15 year old sister to take her with us at some point this year, lol. :)

Thanks for a great report so far!

I will be cancelling my H&V Fantasmic package tomorrow. I've read the reviews & just figured it wasn't all that good, your photos proved me wrong!:lmao:

Ish with H&V -- I'm so not looking forward to reviewing this restaurant. Great reviews though!!

Your writing style is laugh out loud funny. :lmao: I'm really enjoying the reviews and can't wait for the rest! Your reference to Augustus Gloop was hilarious. :rotfl:

I'm so excited, we're trying BOMA breakfast for the first time in November.:goodvibes Thanks for the great review!

Oh my gawd girrrrl.. you and me were seperated at birth! Its like, every 80's/90's reference you make just gets my heart fluttering. And please, you ate the pap like Augustus Gloop? Sheeesh, I ate it like that kid in Matilda who eats the whole chocolate cake. :thumbsup2

But seriously. This is very funny. :wizard:
