This is a question about my dd. She broke her arm last week at school, had to have surgery, and is in a cast for 6 weeks. We will be going on vacation in July. Will she be able to do the waterparks and coasters at Disney? Or will she still be having to take it easy on her arm? She should be out of the cast 3 weeks before we leave. This is our first time to Disney and I am so worried she will not be able to enjoy herself and ride what she wants to ride. She is so looking forward to this trip. She already has her heart broken because she couldnt play softball this year and may not be able to dance in her dance recital. So please help set a worried moms mind at ease. Anything she can do that will help out her arm after it is out of the cast? Or will she have to do therapy? Thanks all.

Monkey Bars? 2nd day of K this year my DD5 broke hers from a fall from the monkeybars. Luckily she didn't need surgery. She was still able to take her dance classes as well as cheerleading with her cast on. When it came off she still had to take it easy for a couple of weeks. I think by three weeks she may of been able to do gymnastics but again she didn't have surgery. You are going to have to ask the doctor on this one. Good luck!

Did she break the humerus or the bones in her lower arm...since you said she she had surgery I'm assuming it's the humerus...anyhow, you may want to get a soft brace to support her arm while she is in the parks on rides. As for the water parks, I'd ask the doctor as was suggested before. I had a simaler situation with my little nephew...we went to Disneyland just a few weeks after the cast was off. He wore a soft brace and felt fine...the rides did bump his arm a bit, but he said he felt okay. We kept some tylenol on hand just in case. Also, we had his sling with us and had him rest his arm every couple of hours, just to rest it and give it a break from the bumps!

good luck to you!!! :wizard: princess:

How long after the cast was off did he get back to normal? My dd broke it playing dodgeball at school. She broke the main bone in her arm into an U-shape. Thanks for the help. I am going to talk to the doctor when it gets closer to time to go. Only 10 weeks now. If all goes well she should have her cast off in 5 more weeks.

My dd5 just broke her arm Tuesday slipping from the monkey bars. The orthopedic surgeon was able to sedate her her set it but it is an unstable fracture. We find out Monday if it stayed or if she needs surgery. She has two breaks but I don't remember the exact names. It is below the wrist but not by far - the radius and ulna if I remember the names correctly. The surgeon said her breaks were extremely bad since they had both slipped way off the regular positions but her age should benefit her a lot. She has completely mastered the monkey bars for the past year but still slipped. I did take her out of swimming and ice skating but unless something changes she will continue dance and dance in the recital which is probably a week or two after the neon pink cast is removed. I'll see what happens Monday.

Good Luck to you and your dd. I hope all turns out well Monday for you. Keep us informed. These breaks are serious business. My doctor told me she could not do dance, p.e., recess, or anything.

My son broke his arm on the last full day of school a few years ago. Then he broke it again on the first day of school 3 months later. Didn't break in the same place, but real close.

I broke my thumb in second grade (1975) right before heading to WDW. My mom wasn't thinking about our trip when the doctor asked "Is she and active child?" and my mom responded "Would we be here if she wasn't?"

So instead of having a little brace/splint thing on my hand, I had a cast that covered from the tip of the broken thumb all the way up to my elbow. It was an old school heavy white plaster thing.

We stayed at the CR (Poly was booked). I recall the pool we were in had water that squirted from the side of the pool. Even though my cast was wrapped in a bread bag with rubber bands I kept getting the cast too close to the squirting water and my mom made me get out of the pool.

But in all, the cast at WDW was not a bad thing. Mickey Mouse saw me walking and asked (gestured) to sign my cast. So I had Mickey's autograph on my cast. And I did even have to ask... he asked me! How cool is that?

Good luck with your DD. I am sure she will do just great.

Sher
