In 08 will they let you get an app instead of dessert?

I was wondering about this, too. I never get dessert when I eat out, and, since I'm vegan, pretty much the only dessert I can get at Disney is Toffuti ice cream, and that's only at table serivce restaurants. I'm not complaining about that at all, because it's amazing that they even have soy ice cream. It just really sucks that I won't be able to even get a dessert at any counter service restaurants, just because they won't have anything I can eat. Oh well. At least I won't gain as much weight :)

Does anyone know if fruit cups are avaible for dessert at any counter service restaurants? That would be my only option, as far as I know.

Bread???? ... you would think the whole world (WDW?) was on Adkins since we rarely saw bread without paying for it ... hee hee - just thought that was funny!
Aside from Mama Melrose's, which restaurants eliminated the free bread and added a bread menu (aka at a price) instead?

I really wish they would allow the substitution, but agree with the others that it probably won't happen. Why would they when they know the people that really want an appetizer would be more apt to pay for it o.o.p. (and possibly forego the dessert that's already included in the price -- a perfect scenario for Disney!).

I would be surprised to see a choice happen. They would be defeating part of the purpose if what I assume to be turning the tables around faster.
And many guests would share appy and dessert, thus taking up the same amount of time while actually a decrease in revenue.
Just my thoughts.

I hope they increase their choices when it comes to sugar free desserts, as I'm sure most diabetics would have been happier with an appetizer than a dessert they can't eat. I know my dad would much rather have a salad before the meal than have to skip a dessert he'd already paid for. He's had some luck with sugar free ice cream at most TS locations, but that gets old when that's all there is.

I don't know why they didn't make it a choice between the two. It's not like their dessert prices are all that far below the appetizer prices. I guess their costs must be a lot lower on the desserts.

I hope that some restaurants offer the option of getting a salad instead of dessert as part of the plan, even though it isn't official. As it stands now, we will probably be sharing 2 deserts and getting 2 to go. I hope they add lighter desserts that are suitable for breakfast :) .

Allowing that substitution seems to defeat the whole purpose of changing the rules for 2008.

Of course, that change could be retirement of the Dining Plan entirely. :)
