Impulse buy: Pandigital eReader at TRU today, hope it was not a rip-off!

I had finally decided to wait until the Kindle Touch is released next month for $99. But low and behold as I was standing in Toysrus today, I see a 7" Pandigital Novel on the shelf (last one!) for $97.00 And the cover for it was only $7. So..... I bought it for my DD's 9th bday next week. I think she'll get more out of it being color since she still enjoys the occasional book with color pix every few pages into it.

It's charging right now and I'm wondering if anyone out there can tell me it was a good move/bad move. I have the receipt in my purse!

Well, biggest downside is that it's a resistive screen rather than capacitive, so the touch won't be as responsive as, for example, an iPad. Do you anticipate your DD using it primary as an eReader, or would she want to download a lot of apps from the Android market, etc? If the former, I'd say it's a decent enough deal (it can actually be found slightly cheaper online but not enough to worry about). If the latter, I'd consider returning it.

I had one a for a short while several months ago. My DD had just bought a color nook for (I think) $250, so I felt great about getting the Pandigital for $99! Well, I had lots of trouble with the touch feature. I thought maybe it was just me, but now I read on here that they aren't as responsive as most. It was a moot point though, as just a couple of weeks after buying it, it refused to charge or even work plugged in. I returned it and ended up getting a Kindle for the same price! I've been very happy with the Kindle until recently when I broke the screen.

Mil bought one for all the grandkids last year and one for herself. Every single one of them have had some software issues with downloading books or connecting to the servers. Ours is currently not working.

I would return it and wait for the kindle.

My mom bought 2 for my sisters last christmas from QVC. Both broke in under 6 months.

My aunt replaced them with kindles and I will say my one sister hated going for the color to the kindle. She wished she went witht he nook color instead like I have.

Husband has one- so far so good only 2 months old or so. Does exactly what we want- primarily as an ereader-it goes online wireless works great can go on facebook, youtube, check emails etc. It does not come with the most popular android market - has different one so not as many apps available but again plenty for what we wanted. Has no issues with touchscreen. I guess if you want it to work like an ipad it won't but for an ereader and some videos it is great. Takes an SD card so you can load one up with shows you like and play on it. My 9 year old's have ereaders as well -we found a lot of Robert Munsch Books on youtube they can listen to/watch on their ereaders.

Okay - that settles it - it's going back! Thanks for the info, it's just wanted I was needing to hear. One question though, if I wait for the Kindle touch, is the touch feature a resistive as well, or will it be more resonsive? If not, I will just get the $79 dollar one now. Thanks.

I saw on a Barnes and Noble email today that you can get the 1st generation of the Nook for only $89. That is a pretty good deal. Also, look at the refurbished ones on ebay. Saw color and regular 2nd generation nooks for good prices too.

I got the QVC one *9" I think* last Dec. We use it mainly as a reader *and have no complaints there* and occasionally go online and that's swell too. Sure I'd prefer a kindle or nook but it serves it's purpose just fine.
